Chapter 40: Back to Normalcy?
[Village Hidden in the Ghetto, Somewhere in Asia]
"Ok, Joshinari? Mind explaining why you hired Jade Company for a job that your ninjas could clearly do?" Ryker asked as he, Jasper, and Pearl were in the Kage's tower.
"Because I didn't want people to get susicipious when I give you some important information. Notice it's just you, your two cohorts, me, and my teammates in this office." Joshinari said sternly. "It's about that Kotesu guy."
"We had a meeting nearly a week ago about him." Pearl said.
Delia held Deandra in her arms before continuing for her husband, "It seems Kotesu has disassembled the Cult of Combination…and he's rebranding it as a private military company. Seems Kotesu put himself as commander-in-chief with Gendo as sub-commander."
"Wait, what? How, when?!" Ryker sputtered.
"Honestly, whoever is feeding you information very sucks at their job or isn't telling you enough." Keitaro snarked.
"To be fair, we don't have an army of ninjas like you." Pearl remarked. "And we have one of our best out dealing with another issue."
"Regardless, the organization calls themselves Rendō Nexus. They're more like marauders…they've been attacking universes unable to defend themselves for supplies and getting people to recruit to their cause. I do have a guy on the inside of the group…from what he could tell me…they're simply building up revenue. The Fusion experiments have gotten more hush-hush, but supposedly they're going to try to make Fusions of people from other franchises." Joshinari said as Michiko looked out the window.
"What makes this even more difficult is the fact Kotesu's showing he's sharp for a new warper. He clearly was trained by someone, but we don't know who. He's already weeding out spies left and right. He inadvertingly ended up exposing a spy who was a triple agent. Never expected Himiko Toga to a spy…let alone for the Americans." Michiko said as Ryker made a mental note of that.
"The only reason that little blood licking piece of shit is still alive…is she wisely handed over the information she gathered to me before turning in her hitai-ite." Joshinari snarled. "That last piece of information…RN is working on a spy program and they have a list of people they want to spy on. She didn't get that list…but I'm not stupid in thinking I'm not on it."
"What about their capabilities and weapons?" Ryker asked.
"All I know is they have hit several Evangelion and Naruto universes so far….operations have becoming more secretive to where the mooks are being trusted with less information." Joshinari said pouring himself a drink. "And I figured I'd warn you because this guy sounds he's going to grow into a pain. Because unlike the young bucks lately, this one…has brains."
"And what about your spy?" Jasper asked.
"I had to pull him out. RN did expose Toga, but it came out she was an American spy. Not a Ghetto Ninja one. She barely escaped with her life and not that she's outed…she's been in hiding." Joshinari said before downing the drink. "All right, I gave you what I knew."
Michiko handed the Jade Company their payment and they were sent out.

"An American sp-No, that makes way too much sense." Saki said as he worked on his car in the front yard.
"Yeah, Japan's pretty pissed about it. Especially considering she's technically still wanted for several murders and stabbings." Ryker said with a bitter sigh. "All I know, she's not on-planet and former President Strong is deep trouble."
"Peridot is going to take advantage to consolidate her power." Mandy said on a lawn chair.
"While breathing down our necks." Maylene snarled as she finished her training against a practice dummy. "Our president is showing some real dickery."
"So basically, RN kind of not really our problem…because we checked the a few Fusion lairs before we came to you. They're empty…it seems during the week they were cleaned out." Pearl said as Saki dropped a wrench.
"Then it still is a problem. Yes, they're backing off from here, but they sound like they're gathering an army." Saki said concerned.
"Then it really isn't our problem. Saki, remember what you promised me. We'd take a vacation once the cult was dealt with…and the Cult of Combination is technically no more." Mandy said getting up to put a hand on her shoulder. "You can't run yourself ragged."
"You're right. I did promise that…" Saki said. "Besides, I can attune to my Oracle power if the need be. So, Mandy? Where do you want to do for vacation?"
"EVA-181818-Sigma. I heard that world's Gendo makes the most insane roller coasters." Mandy said going inside. "I already put together a reservation in the backlogs. If we go by the afternoon, we can get there at a reasonable time. So, pack your things, we're going on vacation."
"I'd go, but this is more or less your honeymoon." Maylene said with a chuckle. "Have fun being carpetbagged, father."

[Delightful Developments, the Suburbs, the Core]
For the members of the fallen KND, it was rather odd to live with the adult counterparts to their heads. Kuki could be her friendly self but snap to seriousness at a dime. Even odder to live in the place was a former Infected Zone, let alone what was once developed by the feared Father.
"So, I wanted to ask, Kuki. What happened to most of our rouges gallery in this universe?" Numbuh 1 asked.
"Well, most of them did not last…at the ones that replaced the ones that died in the Fusion Wars. The snowcone focused one went straight. Chester…I personally put a bullet between his eyes after what he was caught harvesting organs from kids…" Kuki said as Numbuh 1 balked. "Yeah…that was screwed up. Stickybeard…he's dead. Died to Big Mom from One Piece, he has a surviving son in Fenix. And most of the others are either dead or left this universe."
"Explains why most of our enemies are different." Numbuh 1 said. "Not that I'm complaining…not least Father isn't around."
Before Kuki could even laugh at that, Numbuh 86 came in the room.
"Oi, boss. We got a bit of a problem…the Japanese Prime Minister is here to see you." Numbuh 86 said as Kuki paled.
"You didn't tell them where I live, did you?"
"What? No! They're waiting at the treehouse….and with the president." Numbuh 86 said as Kuki facepalmed. "What?"
"Crap. I know exactly what the PM wants."
When Kuki got to Sector V, she got an earful from the irate Inko Midoriya. The current president did her usual method of handling things, shifting blame. Kuki had to endure a tonuge lashing and a demand for Fenix.
"Look, Prime Minister Midoriya. I told you we didn't hire Fenix to kill Kai Chisaki. Secondly, yes Himiko was technically under our employ…she offered her services in exchange for asylum." Kuki explained.
"That still doesn't justify you just walking all over our country." Inko said. "And where is Himiko? Not on planet like Fenix."
"I'm sure we can come to a reasonable conclusion." Peridot said. "What if I put the two on burn notice along a bounty for the crew of pirates?"
"What? You can't do that to Himiko and Fenix…that's only reserved for traitors to the country." Kuki said.
"That's a fair deal. Along with the matter that if they return to this country, you hand them over to us." Inko stated.
"You have a de-"
"No, I refuse to agree to this. Fenix has been nothing but loyal. I'm not putting him on burn notice because your hero society got humiliated." Numbuh 2020 said getting up glaring at Inko.
"I'm siding with him." Wally said as Kuki stood with them.
"Well too bad, I'm the president! And may I remind you that the KND is a government organization now. You don't have to like it, but you're going to do it. Or do I have to force my hand to replace you?" Peridot said icily.
They sat down clearly defeated.
"I thought so. Have them on burn notice by the end of the day." Peridot said before turning to Inko. "Now how about we work on trade deals elsewhere?"
[Hours Later]
"Burn notice?" Numbuh 5 said concerned.
"Yeah, the president is forcing my hand. She wants to appease the Japanese PM…and while I understand why, it's just a political power play. In doing this, it puts you at risk." Kuki said concerned. "Which is why I called you here. There's a Saiyan Attack Ball with your things packed. You need to get off this planet before the notices go up. The pod's automated to track your sister's location."
"Thanks…you did what you could." Numbuh 5 said getting in it as the pod closed.
She waved goodbye as the pod blasted off. The moment she left the universe, the notices went up. Kuki knew she was going to have to explain to the others…and she was not looking forward to it.
[In Space, Between Universes]
As Abigail leaned back in her pod, a call was coming in from an unknown number. She accepted it and was surprised to see Himiko's face.
"Abigail Lincoln, right? You and I were both put on burn notice." Himiko remarked.
"And your point is?" Abigail asked.
"I know you got ties to the Red Phoenix Pirates…and I wanted to ask if I can accompany you to them. For one, I don't have much options. Besides, considering what's going to be your bounty, safety in numbers." Himiko suggested.
Abigail did not exactly trust Himiko, but she had a point. Plus, she was not exactly going to be able to fend off bounty hunters by herself.
"Alright, fine." She begrudgingly said.
"Splendid. I'll pick you up with my ship." Himiko said before hanging up.
Abigail founded herself caught in a tractor beam before yanked up in the ship of bloodlicking former villain.
"Numbuh 5 is going to regret this…"
(A/N: Setup for other characters while playing the consequences of Fenix's actions. The next season of Our Hero Academia is going to be interesting. As for that spy Himiko…oh boy do I have plans! Here's to the 40 chapter, and here's to 40 more!)
