It had been just over five days since Kai and the others had heard about Morro's vicious attack and hospitalization and they hadn't heard anything about the criminal's current condition. All they knew was that Morro was still alive, but that was it. They had heard back from the CIA and Cole, Jay, and Zane were in the clear for Morro's attack. There was absolutely no evidence to suggest that they had anything to do with it and now Chen was in more trouble.
Not only had the inmates now discovered the truth about the child porn but if Morro did die then he would be charged with manslaughter for his allegations.
When she heard about her father's life being in even more danger, Skylor showed no emotion. None of them could tell whether she was happy, sad, or angry at the news. As the days passed, Kai swore that his baby bump was growing bigger and bigger every day. He started wearing more form-fitting shirts, showing off the bump, no longer ashamed by his pregnancy. Nya had also kept to her word and was more supportive of Kai and the baby.
She suggested names, offered any and all her free time babysitting and had even sorted through all their stuff on the hunt for their old baby stuff.
Her change was so sudden that it actually scared Kai and the others. It took Kai, Skylor, AND Jay to convince her to leave her brother alone for a few hours so the brunette could get some errands done. His three amazing boyfriends had offered to help him with whatever he needed to do, but Kai quickly dismissed their offers. He claimed that he needed to get his independence back. What he failed to tell any of them was that his little 'errand' was a visit to the hospital. It wasn't for the baby, however.
"Excuse me, um, I'm not quite sure where to go, I'm here to see Morro Ren." He told the receptionist. "He was admitted a couple of days ago."
"Are you a relative?" She asked as she looked over her notes.
"Yeah, I'm his... cousin." He lied, not sure they would let him in if he told them the truth. "How is he?"
"I'm sure having you here will be a comfort." The receptionist at the front desk smiled sympathetically as she handed Kai what looked like a contract, requesting that Kai filled out his personal information before he could see Morro. "I'll need you to sign in and I'll be back in a moment." She added as she handed the brunette a pen and walked off.
"The lies just keep dripping off that tongue, don't they?" A familiar voice spat in disgust and Kai turned to see Wendy staring at him with more anger than he had ever seen. He saw that she looked horrible. Her hair was a mess, she was pale, had heavy bags under her eyes and her clothes looked like they hadn't been ironed in weeks. She was a pale shadow of the smart, protective woman he had seen just over a month ago.
"You shouldn't be here, I could tell the police, they're keeping a close eye on my boy." She snarled.
"I needed to know how he is." He muttered, not able to meet her gaze.
"Oh, your conscience finally caught up with you has it?" She mocked in anger and pain.
"I just want this all to stop."
"I bet your boyfriends feel like the avenging heroes for arranging a man to get beaten, almost to death, then using their positions in the CIA to cover it up!" She exclaimed and Kai finally looked up at her in shock.
"That's not what happened and how did you even know we were dating?"
"I have a good friend who heard it for a reliable source, and you've just confirmed it." She replied smugly and Kai mentally cursed for falling for that trick. "That source is also sure that your nothing but a liar, and a slut!"
"Morro DID rape me! I wouldn't lie about something like that!" Kai argued, growing more and more frustrated with this continuing argument.
"Well, it's easy to say anything you want now Morro can't defend himself anymore." She huffed as she stormed off down the hall. Kai hesitated for a moment, before following the mother of his rapist down the hall until she suddenly stopped by a window and looked inside. Kai briefly glanced at the window and instantly saw at least three officers crowded in the hospital room. It didn't take him long to understand who was in that room and he looked back at Wendy.
"I don't want to upset you, but you deserve to know the truth." He said, but Wendy kept staring through the window.
"You really want to know how Morro is? Well, he barely made it through the night." She replied, her voice cracking slightly as tears welled in her eyes. "But you can see for yourself, go on and have a look, see what you've done and tell me who the real victim is here!" She growled and Kai finally took a good look at Morro and gasped at what he saw. Morro was lying motionless on the bed with a tube down his throat and a brace around his neck.
His face was covered in dark, ugly bruises with his black hair completely hidden by white bandages.
The bandages also covered his left eye and were stained with a few drops of blood. Kai watched in horror as the criminal struggled to take in each breath as the heart monitor beeped loudly beside him. The officers kept a close eye on him and watched each nurse and doctor as they came to check on him.
"The longer he's like this, the higher the risk of brain damage, that's if he doesn't die," Wendy said with a small sob as a few tears fell from her eyes.
"I-I'm so sorry, I don't want him to die!" Kai cried in horror and pity for Wendy and, much to his own shock, Morro. "I-I didn't want any of this!" He assured her, but Wendy scoffed.
"Let me tell you something; you don't know what love is Kai, but you will." She said with a bitter smirk as more tears fell from her eyes. "That life growing inside of you will become the most important thing and nothing else will matter, you'll feel a love so powerful that you'd go to the ends of the world for it." She explained as she placed a hand on the glass. "You won't destroy him, I won't let you."
"Wendy..." He trailed off, unsure what to say, and Wendy turned to him with enraged, but also sad, eyes.
"But whatever happens from here on out Kai Smith, I swear to God I'll make you pay for what you've done to my boy." She sobbed loudly and turned back to watching her motionless son. Kai decided that he had seen enough and him being there was causing Wendy more suffering and more reason to hate him. With a final sorry, Kai excused himself from her presence and walked away back home...
"What're you doing?" Skylor asked when she entered the quiet living room and saw Nya staring blankly at the wall. Kai had been gone for over an hour and they were all growing more and more worried for him. They were worried that Wendy might corner him again when he was alone, but according to Zane, who had checked the CCTV, she hadn't left the hospital since Morro had been admitted into intensive care.
"Just thinking." She replied, still staring at a wall.
"Always a cause for concern." Skylor tried to joke, but Nya didn't respond. "Have you spoken to Kai yet?"
"No, his phones switched off, did he tell you where he was going today?" She asked, but the red-haired woman shook her head. Nya groaned as she buried her head in her hands. "I'm a terrible sister."
"I think you're being too hard on yourself." She replied and Nya glared at her.
"I made his pregnancy up until now a living nightmare! It was because of my damn pride and anger at an innocent baby that's just as must of a victim as Kai, my brother could have had a miscarriage!" She screeched so loud Skylor was shocked her ears didn't start bleeding.
"Alright, yeah, you've been a bitch these last few weeks, but it wasn't just you stressing him out! Wendy and Morro are as much to blame for that scare, more so even." She reminded the noirette. "What matters now is that you're here and you're loving him."
"I suppose you're right." Nya sighed.
"Always am." She smiled before she suddenly reached into her pocket and forced some cash into Nya's unexpecting hands. "Now go and find your brother if you're so worried about him, here's some money for a cab." She said and Nya smiled at her before standing up, already having a good idea where Kai was. Just before she rushed out the door, however, she turned back to Skylor with a bright crimson blush on her face. She looked like she wanted to say something, but was struggling to find the right words.
"I... I... I l-love you." She finally said and Skylor's eyes widened when her mind managed to fully register what Nya had just said. When she failed to respond right away, Nya's face crumbled in sadness and embarrassment before she bolted out the door, leaving a stunned Skylor sat alone in the apartment.
"I love you too."...
Kai held in a tired sigh as he stood in front of the two headstones of both his parents' graves. He wished they were here then he would never have taken that job at the club and maybe then he would have never even met Morro. Then he wouldn't have been raped, impregnated, and stalked by his rapist's overprotective mother. He released a heavy sigh as he touched his stomach and read the engravings on the headstones.

"Her aura was as graceful as an ocean's waves."
He had bought two bouquets of flowers and had placed them on the graves. He hadn't been here since he had taken that job at Chen's club. He had been too ashamed to face them. If they were still alive, they wouldn't recognize him. Kai couldn't even recognize himself. The person that he was before he first took that job was gone, and Kai didn't ever see him coming back. He had never been more scared and he was bringing a child into this mess, their grandchild.
He didn't know what kind of life he was going to be able to give it.
Kai wished they were both here because everything was such a mess and he couldn't figure out how to put things right. He needed one of Maya's hugs that always made him and Nya feel safe, and he needed Ray to tell him everything was going to be alright.
"Hey bro." Nya suddenly said from behind him, scaring him to death. After he relaxed, Kai realized he had been crying and quickly wiped the tears away as Nya pulled him into a comforting embrace. They stayed like that for a few minutes before she finally pulled away. "Where've you been all day?" She asked and Kai froze for a second, before deciding she and the others were probably going to find out sooner or later.
"I went to the hospital." He replied and her eyes widened in horror.
"Why were you at the hospital? Are you alright? It's not the baby is it?" She started asking rapidly until Kai raised his hand to stop her.
"No, no, we're fine." He quickly reassured her before sighing. "I couldn't just sit around not knowing what was going on with Morro so I went to Intensive Care and pretended to be his cousin, and Wendy saw me." He admitted and Nya looked like she was about to scold him. "I needed to know how he was, it's not fair them keeping us in dark like this."
"What happened?"
"She didn't call the police." He replied as he thought about his next words carefully. "She was... She was so broken, it was awful."
"And what about Morro? Is he awake?" Nya asked, not sure which answer she wanted to hear.
"He's in a bad way sis, nearly didn't make it through the night, and he's not woken up yet and the longer he's like this less likely he ever will." He replied and when his sister saw how scared he was, she hugged him again, offering all her comfort and support as she could send...
