Blind Eye 5-1
Episode 5 Part 1
It was a beautiful morning at Pine Hollow and Elle had gone out on Arabella for a quiet wander. She planned to meet Lisa and the others later. The unmistakable scent of Lilacs signaled that she was in Wildflower Meadow. She brought Arabella to a halt and dismounted. As she bent over to smell the Lilacs on a small nearby bush, her cane suddenly slipped down in a small hole.
Pulling her cane out, she knelt down to examine the hole and realized that there were a whole bunch more of these little holes all around her.
"That's strange." Said Elle, "It looks like someone has been taking mineral samples up here, but why?"
As Arabella knackered her own response, Elle decided that, instead of jumping to any conclusions, she'd ride back to Pine Hollow and see if Max knew anything about this.
She climbed back into the saddle and headed back toward the stables.
When she got there, she went straight for Max's office.
"Hey Max," she said when she got there. Max, who was sitting at his desk, looked up.
"Yeah, Elle?"
"Do you know anything about the mineral samples being taken up at Wildflower Meadow?" asked Elle
Max's eyebrows went up toward his hair line.
"If someone is taking samples up there it's not with my knowledge or consent!" he declared firmly. "I'll look into it. Thanks for telling me."
Elle nodded. Max promising to look into it didn't soothe her curiosity though. As she headed down to take care of Arabella thoughts swirled in her mind.
"If Max didn't know about the samples being taken, that means whoever took them was trespassing." She thought.
After seeing that Arabella was taken care of, Elle went to the lounge to wait for the others to arrive."
When Lisa, Carole and Stevie arrived Elle filled them in on what she had discovered.
"Max, thanked me for telling him about it and said he would look into it." said Elle
"Yeah well, we all know Max," said Lisa, who already had an I-want-to-play-detective look on her face. "as busy has he is running the stable, It could be weeks before he actually gets around to it."
"That's true." Replied Elle
"Oh, who are you kidding." Said Stevie, "You two just want to play detective."
Elle and Lisa turned toward Carole and Stevie.
"And you two don't?" they said pointedly
Carole looked at Stevie.
"She's got us there." shrugged Carole
"Yeah, but where would we even start?" wondered Stevie
"The only place we can," replied Elle, "Wildflower Meadow."
Across town in the fancy corporate offices of Scanlon industries, the CEO Victor Scanlon himself was on the phone with someone.
"Boss," the voice on the other end of the line was saying, "I'm sure that the girl that I was telling you about was looking at the holes up there in the meadow."
"Great," Muttered Scanlon, "Voss, Where's Manetti?"
"I don't know, Boss, why?" Replied Voss
"Because I'm gonna wring his neck!" snapped Scanlon, "I told him to fill in those holes when he was done! The last thing we need is someone snooping around!"
After their riding lesson the girls started up toward Wildflower Meadow. When they got there they went to the spot where Elle had been and started looking around.
They found about 15 different holes in the area. As they expanded the search area Lisa noticed something.
"There are other places where it looks like holes were dug then filled back in." said Lisa, "Almost as if someone were trying to hide what they were doing up here!"
"Well, that's not surprising," said Elle, "Max said that he didn't know anything about this so whoever is doing this is doing it Illegally!"
"Uh guys," said Carole, "I just thought of something."
"What?" asked Elle
"The only way to get here without going through Pine Hollow is to cut through on the Fox Creek trail." Replied Carole
"Wait," said Stevie, "Are you thinking that maybe Desi or her dad knows something about this?"
"Well ever since he bought the property no one gets on that trail without Desi or her dad knowing about it." Said Lisa, "One way or another we need to talk to Desi and Mr. Biggins."
