Chapter 40: Willpower

The following morning, Inuyasha woke up to the alarm from his phone. He pushes himself up from sleeping on his side to see that the locket is still there from last night and Kikyo's visit. He goes into the closet to pull out a pair of jeans, a tan tank top and a red zip up hoodie. He then goes into the bathroom to get ready for the day. Before he goes into the shower he notices that his eye have bags under them. "I must've been dreaming about Kikyo's visit." He rubs the bags out but they're stuck in their place. He goes into the shower to freshen up. About five minutes later, Inuyasha gets out and puts on his clothes and towel dries his hair since they're still soaked from the shower water. He knows that it's the weekend so he can take his sweet time. That's when the knock on the door alerts him. "Inuyasha, I know you're in there." It was his father. "I'll be right out." Inuyasha replies as he gets dressed and hangs up the towel on the hook on the door. He opens up the door to see Inutaishou with the look that immediate kill. "By the way, Kagome's here." Inutaishou smirks and goes into the bathroom.

Inuyasha didn't see that coming. Since he was in the bathroom, it only contains his, his father's and his mother's scent since they all use it. He makes his way into the kitchen to see Kagome talking with his mother Izayoi. "Morning." He greets the two. "Morning, Inuyasha." Izayoi spoke bark warmly as she places a plate of bacon and waffles onto his spot on the counter. "So, what brings you here, Kagome?" Inuyasha asks her since she didn't had breakfast, or she might have back at her house. "I'll leave you two alone." Izayoi excuses herself and leaves the kitchen.

Once the mother is out of the kitchen, Kagome shows a serious look. "I came over because I want to talk to you." She said to him. "Inuyasha, I had this bizarre dream that my cousin Kikyo visited me in the middle of the night." She starts off. Inuyasha was able to tell that Kagome's eyes are having bags like his own. "She was telling me about going to the store where the locket you got for her to take care of a problem." Kagome explains a bit more to make it sense for him. "Inuyasha, do you think that this is Kikyo's spirit who is trying to get a hold of me?" She asks him with concern.

Inuyasha would never expect Kikyo to do the same thing to Kagome like what she did to him last night. "I think so. She was telling me the same thing. The weird thing is that the locket that your aunt send me is connected to the one I gave her. I might be crazy to say this but Kikyo wants to possess your body in order to confront Tsubaki for what she did to her." Inuyasha tells her calmly, hoping that it doesn't freak her out.

From the look on Kagome's face, she doesn't seem fazed about. "She said something like that as well." Kagome tells him back. "So then you were aware about the potential dangers the your cousin might put you through?" Inuyasha asks her in uncertainty. "Listen I was doubtful that it was possible to begin with if I were to go through with this." Kagome takes hold of his arm to calm him down.

"The thing I don't get is that she claims that I'm a priestess as well." She looks down in her free hand to see nothing coming out of it. Inuyasha knows that Kikyo wasn't lying about Kagome being one. "It's just dormant. You had no idea about it throughout your life. Maybe your mother might know about this as well." Inuyasha advices her softly as he takes her hand. Kagome agrees and they head back to her house to get more information from her mother.

Kagome heads into her house with Inuyasha on her tail. "Mom." She calls in the house. "In here, Kagome." Ai responds back from the back. Kagome goes into the kitchen to see her and Miyuki at the breakfast nook. "What is it, sweetheart?" Ai can see that Kagome has a question from her eyes. "Is it true that I'm a priestess?" She asks her in such an upset state. Ai remains calm. As well as Miyuki. "What brought this up?" Kagome sits in the empty chair at the table with Inuyasha in the other one. "You may find this hard to believe but Kikyo came into our dreams last night." Inuyasha spoke this time.

Miyuki's expression changed in an instant. "Ai, I guess there's something to tell your daughter." She takes a hold of her shoulder to see her with a shameful look. "Tell me what?" Kagome asks her. "That you inherited my spiritual powers. When I found out that I was one when I was a teenager." Kagome gasps with wide eyes. "Why didn't you tell me about this sooner?" She is beyond surprised. Ai sighs deeply, "I didn't want to do anything about it. I just wanted to make sure I lived the average life like everyone else I know. But it didn't work in my favor." Ai frowns throughout her confession.

"So, then you were protecting me from a faithful event that could change my life?" Kagome assumes. Ai nods, "Afraid so. I was aware that you had spiritual powers when you were born and I had to do whatever it took to remain dormant." She explains to her. Kagome stays silent throughout the time. She has doesn't have anything to say about it. What could she say? What would she say? What should she say? She doesn't have the answers to any of the questions that ran across her mind.

"So then you did the right thing to do to prevent me to bond with Kikyo. If that happened, my spiritual power would wake up." Kagome explains in a relief manner. "I was aware of my daughter's spiritual powers, and she wanted to do something about it. When my husband found out about it, he did whatever he could to make sure she stayed focus on them and not to be distracted from anything. And that included love. I'm so sorry what he did, Inuyasha. I was actually against his idea." Miyuki spoke as she turns to him with a guilty look.

"So the thing is that Kikyo wants to possess my body to confront Tsubaki." Kagome gets to the point for her reason to check to make sure if what she suspected was true. "Kagome, I can't let you go through with that." Ai disagrees with that as she shakes her head. "Mom, I'm against the idea as well. My spiritual powers are still dormant at this point. There's no way Kikyo could possible take over my body and let her do whatever she wants." Kagome agrees with her mother's terms. That may be true on them, but something is plaguing Miyuki's thoughts about the idea.
