For their service as liberators cap and sabra were given the mullah's former dwelling in the village. It was big enough to provide plenty of room for them. And as this village was at least for the moment able to throw off the yoke of Islam the two enhanced opposite sex agents could thus stay in the same dwelling.
Sabra "a lot is changing here in a short time." "So I've seen. I didn't come here hoping to change the world or this place especially. I'm just here to help the guys." Sabra smiled a little. "I can appreciate that. America is still reeling from your leaving the national scene." "American agent can lead them." "Sure. But, it's still not Captain America either…" "there is no more Captain America." "Yes; not in the literal sense anyway."
Cap leaned forward in his chair then set his eyes upon the Israeli agent seated across from him. "Look, agent Sabra, I'm very grateful for the service that you gave to us during the war. We all owe you and Israel." "We were proud to give it. A stable America is a stable Israel. They go together." Cap's eyes narrowed a little; he then leaned back. "Is there something I'm missing agent Sabra?" A dark brow of hers rose curiously. "No. Should there be?" "Did Mossad send you or did you come of your own accord?" "A little of both you might say." "To what end?" "Cap, Steve, your lifesaving actions helped create Israel. You're… a hero to us in many ways; special ways." "I was just doing my job." She smiled a little. "You helped save a race of people Captain. That's not to be taken lightly." "Bucky did too." "And we honor him as well. We honor all who were there and helping in those ways." "Sabra, my path now is a different one…" "we know cap. The rabbis have been following your angelic ascent for a while now." He frowned a little. "Why?"
"The one above all is the same god we worship. It is the same god that elevated you to where you are now. Elohim has chosen you to lead humanity into the future." Cap exhaled at that a little. That was trickier for cap to hear. He figured that played some role in what he was doing but it had grown much foggier. His mission was clear as nomad. That much he could say. Everything else just depended on what it was.
He didn't see the correlation here however. As nomad, as his code name suggested, mobility would be a key attribute. He could stay in places for as long as needed; but there wasn't a permanence to the stays either. To be on the move was part of his god given call now. That was his future.
But sabra was here and now; and she had indeed proved herself a good ally. "What do you propose?" She smiled a little wider this time at the open mindedness of his question. "Hitting the heroin trade here benefits all. America will be busy with its interior situation. As it should be. This also draws the media eye away from here; from us…" cap read between the lines there. "We can truly cripple it." "Precisely. Iran benefits from the heroin trade as well. And your shield is marked by the very cultural symbol that fought their pre Shia counterparts…"
"Vengeance?" She shrugged. "Molon labe…" he nodded at that. He called his shield to his hands. He held the front of it towards her. She nodded. "This is what god means for you to do Steve. To bring the fight to these devils. You liberated America from a great evil. Now it's time to do the same here." He tossed the shield to her. She caught it and looked it over. "I like the sentiment a lot Sabra but it won't be that simple here." She nodded while looking down at the shield. "That's true. But it's still a journey. And as the nomad of creation that too is your destiny." "Ashkenazi wisdom there?" "Maybe."
Cap couldn't deny it. He was mostly here to help the troops and if those additional aforesaid actions could indeed cripple the enemy's efforts and help those troops of the new American republic still risking all to save lives back home then it was worth it. It was always worth it. For the guys it always was.
"Okay Sabra. We'll play it your way." She nodded then stood; she held the shield before her. Cap reached out and mentally dissolved the shield. "Wish I could do that with my gear," she said with a lopsided grin. He returned that with a smile of his own.
She gave him a lingering brief look before departing. It was then he clearly noted "how" she looked at him. She was definitely drawn to him. She wanted him bad. It wasn't just the mission or any of that. Sabra had just revealed she carried a big time torch for cap. His angel senses confirmed it.
Oh boy… he was still with Sharon. Although his coming to Afghanistan had certainly complicated things. This discovery now complicated things even more. He'd frankly wondered if there had been more to what had brought her here. It now seemed that was the case.
What would he do? God's will. For freedom. Beyond that he'd rather not speculate. He laid down for the night in the strange bed and his ever tactical mind started planning scenarios to make the enemy here suffer. It did so until the angel man finally fell asleep. The Brooklynite frail guy turned super soldier turned archangel had busy days ahead. Both tactical and heart matters would occupy them.
The adventure never ended for cap; but then again he wouldn't have it any other way.
