"Hey," Jack said, carrying his fishing equipment down from the porch.
Lisa smiled at him. He could tell she was nervous, based on the way her lip twitched and the way she carried her hands.
He smiled back, feeling nervous butterflies swarm in his stomach.
He leaned down and kissed her, and the butterflies dissipated immediately, replaced by a ripple of desire. Lisa tipped her head up and prolonged the kiss.
He pulled back, smiling in a relaxed manner.
She smiled up at him and it suffused her eyes. She too was much more at ease now.
"Ready for our fishing trip?" Jack asked.
"Definitely," Lisa said.
He picked up his bags and she helped him with his equipment. They put his things in the back of the SUV. "Since you know where you're going, do you want to drive the truck?" Lisa asked.
Jack took the proffered keys and chuckled, "truckā¦"
Lisa playfully shoved her shoulder into him.
He walked around the SUV, holding the door open for her as she got in. "Thanks," she muttered.
He leaned down and kissed her briefly, taking her by surprise and making her breath catch in her throat, before closing the door.
Jack went around to the driver's side, hopped in and started the engine.
Amy and Marion watched Lisa and Jack from the kitchen window. "So, they're on their way," Amy said.
"Yup," Marion said.
"Everything's changing so fast," Amy said. "Grandpa and Lisa are practically engaged."
"Oh, honey," Marion said, putting her arm around her daughter, "I know you don't like change, but you have to get used to it." She kissed her hair, "It's a natural part of life."
Amy sighed and shrugged her shoulders.
"But," Marion added, "I don't think you have to worry about your grandpa getting married anytime soon."
"Why?" Amy said, "a blind man could see he's crazy about Lisa?"
"Well, that's the thing about your grandpa," Marion said. "He might be the only person in the world who hates change even more than you do."
Amy smiled, as her mother shoved her shoulder into hers.
"Besides," Marion continued, "your grandpa has never been very in touch with his emotions. So a blind man might be able to see that he's in love with Lisa, but I'd bet he has no idea."
Amy laughed. Her mom was probably right. Things probably weren't changing too fast after all.
