Chapter 40

The next morning Ali woke up alert.

All the Avengers had decided to try and get the two back for all the pranks they had pulled over the last two days. Natasha knew that Ali would end up sleeping in again if somebody didn't wake her up so had agreed to tipping ice water over her but wasn't going to help them.

Natasha would normally be worried that the ice water would cause some kind of a flash back for Ali, but she knew that Ali had learnt to wake herself up when trouble was near.

Unfortunately for Shuri, Ali didn't manage to warn her in time before T'Challa and Tony poured the water over her. She had managed to roll out of the way just before Clint and Steve tipped the water on her. Her bed was soaked but the two men who had tried to prank her were on the floor with their faces pressed into the carpet.

Once Ali had released Steve and Clint the 4 men dashed out of the room to avoid Shuri's stares which could probably murder them and Ali tackling them to the floor again. The prank was a success, and they had the video to prove it, but the men were afraid of was the revenge that the two girls would surely get.

As much as Shuri liked Ali, sleep right now was more important. She would get to see her later on anyways. That was why she dragged herself out of the room and down the corridor towards one of the spare rooms. She smiled sleepily at Ali on her way out.

Ali looked even more asleep than Shuri but did see the smile she gave her on her way out of the room.

Looking at the clock Ali hurriedly changed into her school uniform before shoving the books that she would need for today into her bag and running towards the kitchen.

Luckily Natasha had already made some breakfast for Ali and she quickly ate it while Clint did her hair.

Wanda was already ready and waiting when Ali had finished her breakfast and so they both got into the elevator and walked the now familiar path to school and met Maya on the way.

Ali told Maya all about her weekend since Maya now knew about her family. Once they got to school, they were still talking excitedly to one another but to avoid anyone overhearing they had converted to sign language.

By the time two lessons had passed, Ali finally felt like she knew the school inside out and where any classroom was.

Signing to Maya in the last two classes had been the only thing that really kept her awake. Unfortunately, they had French next.

Ali made sure that when lining up outside the room she was in the middle. Not near the front but not near the back either. She was trying not to draw the teacher's attention to her but as soon as the teacher saw her, he gave her a look that Ali knew would mean that this lesson was going to be terrible.

She sat down in the seat that she had sat in last lesson but this time the chair next to hers was no longer vacant. An extremely tall boy was sitting next to him. He looked like an athlete and from what she had heard he was one and was quite good at sports.

He turned to her just before Monsieur Dupont entered the classroom and said,

"I am Edward and if there is anything you want to know about French then you can ask me because I definitely do not suck at French."

Ali smiled at what he had said. He was hopefully going to liven this class up at least a little.

"How about a then competition? The first to answer 5 questions that he asks correctly wins."

"What do I win?"

"You could win the prize of beating me or I could win the prize beating you."

"You're on."

Edward had whispered what he had last said as, as he was saying it Monsieur Dupont re-entered the room. He called the register first before getting them all to write the answers to some of the questions up on the board.

Ali was of course done after only a minute and so almost fell asleep in the 5 minutes it took everyone else to complete the task and for Monsieur Dupont to ask for answers.

Ali and Edward were the only ones to raise their hands. Monsieur Dupont picked on Edward to give his answer for the first question since he already knew that Ali knew the answer.

For the first question there were 5 words on the board, and you were supposed to find the similarities between them. There were 3 similarities to find.

Assuming that Edward was going to get them right since they were pretty easy, Ali put her hand down.

"They are all French words, they all have a capital letter at the start and they are all on the board."

Everyone broke out laughing. His sentence had broken the silent tension in the room.

Monsieur Dupont didn't know what to say in response to that and so tried to stay calm as he said in his French accent,

"I was not looking for those answers Edward."

The noise grew. Some people were still laughing but most were talking to the person next to them.

"So, one point to me then."

"You wish! You didn't answer it correctly."

"But I did! The words are all in French, they are all on the board and they all start with a capital letter. That is three similarities!"

The rest of the lesson continued in the same manner and by the end of it, Ali and Edward were still playfully argued over who had won.

Ali almost fell asleep on the table at lunch. Maya and Edward had managed to keep her awake for the last 3 lessons but unfortunately for Ali, she had Geography last. She sat nowhere near Maya and it was always really boring. There was almost no way that Ali was going to be able to stay awake.

Once the bell rang to signal the end of lunch, Ali and Maya made their way to Art. Ali had managed to buy a high energy drink and was just waiting for that to kick in so that she would hopefully feel less tired for a bit.

By the end of Art, the sugar still hadn't kicked in but she had managed to keep her head off the desk for most of the lesson and Maya shaking her every now and again had also helped.

Maya and Ali exited the Art room together and walked to the other side of the school for their Geography lesson with Mr Davis.

As soon as the two had taken their seat on opposite ends of the classroom and started the task that had been set for them on the board, a student who must have been at least 2 years older than Ali entered the room with a slip on their hand.

"They gave the slip to Mr Davis who barely acknowledged them before they left the room.

It was 5 minutes later when the teacher actually read the slip. At that point Ali was doodling in her book but she looked up when her name was called.

"Ali, you need to go down to student reception."

Well, that was weird. It was the last lesson of the day and she knew she hadn't forgotten anything. If her Mamma or anyone else wanted to talk to her then they would just message or phone her.

She went down to the student reception anyways and left her bag and school stuff in her Geography classroom as she assumed that she would be coming back before the lesson ended.

Once she reached the window where she could talk to the person at the reception the person there asked for her name and then told her to go to the main reception.

The main reception was never used by students unless they were signing out. It was mainly used by parents dropping things off for their children.

Ali went around the corridor and opened the door that led into the main reception. As soon as she opened the door, she saw two familiar faces looking up at her from the chairs in the corner of the room. One had an evil grin across their face.
