Now

A dog-tired Sesshoumaru was surprisingly pliant.

A freshly-awakened Sesshoumaru was shockingly tactile.

But a wide-awake, well-rested Sesshoumaru was as inscrutable as ever.

"Come."

Wavering on the temple's threshold with an oiled rag in his hand, Miroku asked, "We are going?"

"Hnn."

"Now?" He wasn't even halfway through the tasks he'd intended to finish today.

Sesshoumaru simply turned and walked away.

In a mad scramble, Miroku threw supplies into a carrying cloth and stashed a full cannister of Sesshoumaru's favorite tea in his sleeve. Pausing to kiss Mushin's bald pate, he offered a breathless, "Until next time, old man," and ran.

End Note: This chapter was helped along by a prompt from FoxOfTwilight, who contributed the word "pause" over on my Ko-fi account, where I'm currently hosting a fandom event. I'm also ticking off a prompt from a table I procured (ages ago) from the Live Journal community iy no kakera, where I hold a claim on Sesshoumaru & Miroku. Set #1, Theme #54, When Going Away. 100 words, originally posted on April 23, 2021.
