Chapter 41: A Run out in the Wild
Once Kagome and Inuyasha left the kitchen after having the conversation about Kikyo's dream visit, Miyuki turns to see Ai holding her head with her elbows on the table. "Ai, what is it?" Miyuki spoke first. "Kagome was right about having her spiritual powers dormant. I was aware about my own and I knew the moment when she was born, I was able to pass it down to her." Ai spoke back without looking at Miyuki in the eye. "Was a bad thing to have them?" Miyuki boldly asks her. Ai takes a deep breathe, "I wasn't sure about it at the time. I just wanted to have a normal life, and I made sure that Kagome did the same thing. But I guess that's not going to happen. I bet Kikyo wanted it too." She looks up to Miyuki with a disappointed look.
Miyuki shakes her head. "Ever since Kikyo made that rude comment at my wedding, I knew for sure that she was actually testing Kagome to see rather or not she had spiritual powers like she did. I didn't tell her. According to her, if two spiritual powers were in close proximity, there'd be a chaotic moment. I think she was doing that to protect Kagome." Miyuki explains her reason calmly. Ai seems to get it. It wasn't a rude comment that Kikyo said to hurt her feelings, it was to protect Kagome. "So what are we going to do if Kagome decides to unlock her spiritual powers?" Ai asks her sister. Miyuki is about to stand up, but Ai helped her up. "There's one person I know who has the answer." She smiles as they get ready to go out. As a matter of fact, Miyuki needs fresh air to get better.
Kagome decides to go upstairs and into her room. Inuyasha on the other hand is downstairs. After a few minutes, Inuyasha sees that Kagome is in a t-shirt, shorts, and a pair of sneakers. Kagome gets into her car. "Where are you going?" Inuyasha asks as he sees her through the open car door window. "I'm going for a run." Kagome responds as she starts the ignition.
Inuyasha sees that Kagome is a bit odd about that statement. "The neighborhood has enough property to go a for a run." Inuyasha tells her. "Not here, Inuyasha." Kagome turns to him with a stern look. "Then where?" He asks her. "If you wanna run with me, then get on your shirt and shorts and get back here." Kagome chuckles to see how he's being dumb. "Give me five." Inuyasha nods and goes into his house to change into a proper athletic attire. Inuyasha change into a white muscle tank top and red shorts and sneakers one. He then gets into the passenger side of the car. Kagome pulls out of the driveway.
After a few minutes of leaving the street, Inuyasha is about to ask, but Kagome beat him to it. "I used to run at this area to get my mind off of things." That's when Inuyasha knows what Kagome means. "So are you sure you want to come with me or stay home?" Kagome asks him with her one brow raised. "What are you trying to pull here, Kagome?" Inuyasha is suspicious about Kagome's attitude. "Let's just say that where we're going isn't a pretty place to be in." She shifts her car to drive and leaves the neighborhood.
Ai and Miyuki go into the garage to get into Ai's car. Miyuki sees Kagome's car gone. "Here, where did Kagome go?" Miyuki asks her sister as she goes into the car. "Oh Kagome has a special spot to go for a run." Ai responds calmly, not seems to be concerned. "Why not here? There's the nice park with a wide area to run in." Miyuki reasons to her. "That's mainly true, but Kagome has a certain connection to the place she's heading to." Ai turns to Miyuki with a sad smile. By the expression that Ai is giving, Miyuki can tell that wherever Kagome is going, she can tell herself that has a bad feeling about it.
Kagome drives into a different part of the area. More like the place she used to live. Inuyasha watches silently to see that Kagome is focusing on the road. "So, uh where are we?" Inuyasha breaks the uncomfortable silence. "Oh, we're going somewhere I like to go where I want to be alone. Like seriously alone." Kagome drives into the empty countryside of the neighborhood. She finds the spot on the side of the road and pulls into it. "Well, here we are." Kagome puts the car in park and the emergency break. Inuyasha follows her out of the car. From what he can see a sign pinpointing a hiking trail. "You run around here?" Inuyasha asks her. Kagome is stretching her body. "Yep. I love it out here. I feel free whenever I'm here." Kagome responds as she digs into the car's trunk to get a water bottle. Inuyasha can see it that it's empty.
"You're going to be thirsty." He points out. "Yes, I know. There's a spring that is outmatched by any other bottled water." Kagome said as she straps it on her belt. "Here." She throws one of the empty water bottles to Inuyasha which he catches it easily. "Alright let's go." She smiles at him and runs along the trail with Inuyasha behind her. Inuyasha follows Kagome along the hiking trail. From the looks of te area, it's a peaceful area to get away from all the stressful moments. They end up at the bottom of the hill. He hears water rushing through the thicket. "This way, Inuyasha." Kagome shouts at him. Inuyasha follows her a bit further to see a thin waterfall in view. Kagome takes off her shoes and dips her feet into the cool water.
"So this is your secret spot?" Inuyasha asks as he sits in a rock next to Kagome. "Yeah pretty much." Kagome nods as she massages her feet after dipping them in the water. She then steps into the water and sits under the water. Inuyasha is about to go after her until she stops him with her hand. "Stay where you." She serious spoke. Inuyasha watches as the girl is beginning to meditate. "Let her do her thing." Hige spoke to him. Inuyasha turns around to see Hige coming up to him and stops by his side. "What is she doing though?" Inuyasha is now confused about Kagome's purpose.
Hige silently watches, "I was the one who brought her here a few years ago. I know that this is the only spot to get her mind off of things that bother her greatly." He explains to the boy so far. "The last time she was like this was when Kouga broke her heart. She was desperate to come here but we were moving out of the old house that wasn't far from here." Hige continues on. All of a sudden a pink light illuminates the girl. Inuyasha gasps and is about to go to her but Hige grabs his shoulder to prevent his attempt.
The pink light brightens further. "She's trying to release her spiritual powers." Hige said calmly. "What my wife and her sister said about Kagome's powers being dormant is true. I was aware of them as well, but I know it was best that it was a conversation between mother and daughter." Hige spoke after a few seconds. "She's trying to release it to contact Kikyo?" Inuyasha assumes at that point. "Precisely. Even though Kikyo's rude comment sound it hurt Ai's feelings, she never wanted Kagome to know about it ever since. So, I guess this is just a time for the those two to meet face to face." Hige spoke while crossing his arms as they both observe Kagome's progress.
