Asking Lorelai
"Well hello Aus. What to what do I owe the pleasure? Rory's at school, right?" Lorelai asked confused to find Finn on her doorstep. Waiting to be let in instead of just walking in and without Rory here, and a big bag with him.
"Yes. I know that." Finn chuckled and he looked nervous, awkward even.
"Okay, come on in." Lorelai said leading him into the living room. "So, what's up?"
Finn took a deep breath and started unpacking the bag. She watched as he placed toy cow after toy cow on the table, once he finished with twelve cows, he started adding goats and a few chickens.
Lorelai smiled as tears came to her eyes. She knew what was happening and she wasn't ready. He was perfect for Rory, he'd been there through everything, he'd never hurt her intentionally, had never even glanced at another girl as far as she knew. He came to the crazy town events and he kept up with their bits.
"I want to ask your permission to marry Rory." Finn said finally after he had arranged the menagerie of animals.
"Hang on." Lorelai smiled at him, noticing his hands were shaking a bit.
She walked to the cupboard on the hallway and dug through the crap in it for a few minutes. Finding something she'd brought from a rummage sale last year.
Lorelai walked back into the living room and handed it to Finn.
He took one look and burst into laughter.
"Is this enough?" Lorelai asked with a smirk.
Finn looked down at the toy farm with a huge smile on his face. "This is perfect. So, it's a yes?"
"It's a yes Aus. But you know I don't make the decision on if she says yes." Lorelai smiled at her future son in law.
"I know. Just so you're not sat waiting for her to ring you and freaking out, I plan to do it the day of graduation. As we're taking pictures. I told her I'd wait till she finished college, but I don't want to wait a minute longer." Finn grinned.
"That's sweet Aus. The mommy approves." Lorelai smiled, she liked the gesture about not making her wait for a call from Ror, it would have driven her mad. In fact, waiting a week was going to drive her mad. But she'd woman up now she had a definite time and place.
"Hang on, you're doing it in front of everyone?" Lorelai asked. That was not Rory's style.
"I was going to wait till the rest of them leave. When it was just you, Luke, Mia, Colin, Lee and the twins." Finn said.
"Let her grandparents see too." Lorelai advised. "And don't make a big speech, just say it from the heart."
Finn nodded a smile on his face, he looked at the coffee table where the farm and cows were placed.
"I have an idea." Finn grinned and leant in, conspiring with Lorelai.
She wasn't ready for her daughter to be married. But if it had to be anyone she was glad it was Finn.
