Chapter 42 – The Big Day
Ines stood in front of the mirror in Leia's bedroom. It was 4pm, and in an hour she would walking down the aisle, alongside Chewie. She decided that the Wookie would give her away while R2 was the ring bearer, since Han was Luke's best man and Leia her maid of honor.
Right now she was looking at her reflection, in her wedding dress, her baby bump not to visible underneath the fabric around the waist because was not to tight to make it visible, even her pregnancy belly was already showing at 4 ½ months, her hair tied in a bun, where her veil was tied in as well. She couldn't help to feel nervous, which was ridiculous. She was already married with Luke, today it was only a public wedding. Maybe that was the reason: a public wedding, where everyone would watch them. In Endor, not only they didn't know what was going on, they were surround by close friends.
Taking a few deep breaths, she allowed the force to calm her down. Feeling her baby moved once in a while, she rest her hands on her baby bump. Yes she need to relax because her baby boy was feeling her nerves too.
Leia entered in the room, she looked beautiful with a long light brown dress, tight in a belt, her hair also tied into a bun.
They didn't talk about their little argument the day before, so the tension was still evident. Ines remembered Luke's words and he was right, they need to talk about it, after it was not only her wedding but Luke's, Leia twin brother and she knew twins have a connection even stronger then normal siblings, especially force sensitive twins.
"Are you ready?" Leia asked her
Ines nod at her.
"Okay then. We will leave in 30 minutes" Leia informed and was about to leave when Ines called
"Leia wait" walking towards her sister in law Ines sighed "I'm sorry about yesterday. I was wrong when I said that you were not a true Alderaanian. Yes you are. You loved that planet like everyone else. What I said it was stupid and I didn't really mean that."
Leia sighed and grabbed Ines hands
"I also said things that I shouldn't have said. Of course I know you are not okay and you still hurting with the destruction of our planet. I'm sorry"
Ines pulled Leia into a hug, staying like that for a while in silence. Once they pulled away Ines sighed
"I shouldn't try to force anything on you. I don't understand why you think like that, but I respect and it is your decision. Luke was right when he told that you didn't see what we saw, so of course you have a different opinion and we have to respect."
"I understand your points of view, I really do, and I'm not ashamed of the name Skywalker, I don't. I love my brother, I already love my nephew" she smiled resting her hand on her belly "and I love my sister in law, and they are Skywalkers, it is just I've been an Organa all my life. I feel an Organa, Bail and Breha Organa are my parents and they will always be. They raised me, loved me like I was their real daughter. I feel lucky, I have two parents who loved me all their lives, and a twin brother from my other family that I also love."
"Love so much than you kissed him" Ines laughed making Leia wince at that
"Don't making me remember that. Han kept teasing me in the beginning with that kiss"
"I bet he did" and the two friends started to laughed at that.
After a while they went silence and Ines nod
"Bail Organa was a great man and a great friend of my father. He didn't treat him like an employee, he treated him like a brother. I will always respect your father Leia. Yes he was your father, I just thing you also have your biological father that you also need to talk too. I know he appeared to you asking for forgiveness and that didn't went very well."
"Luke told you"
"We don't have secrets towards each other." Ines told her "But I understand why you feel that way and I shouldn't push you to do something you don't feel ready and I apologize for it"
"I accepted your apology. No matter how many fights we have, and we had some, you will always be my best friend. And now my sister in law. There wasn't any other girl in this galaxy that I want to be with Luke but you" Leia smiled and the two sisters hugged again.
"Hey anyone"
The two friends pulled apart
"We're coming" Leia answered.
As the two friends came out of the bedroom, Han and Chewie just looked at the two young women.
"My goodness. You two look beautiful" Han said smiling at them. Then he stare at Leia and got closer to her "You look beautiful today." he said making Leia smile as he pulled her into a kiss, making Ines smile at the scene.
Chewie growled, making Han pulled apart and looked to his friend.
"I know. The star of the day is the bride, but I already know someone who will not be able to take his eyes from her. You look stunning"
"Thanks to Lando" Ines said smiling
"Never thought Lando had just a good taste on wedding dresses" Han laughed.
"But I have to say that today you look like a gentleman. Look at you." Ines clapped
"Only for you, kid" he smiled and kissed her forehead "I'm here cause I will pick up Luke and we are heading to the place where it will happen. Everyone is there, except the groom and the bride. So see you in a few minutes."
Han left the apartment, making Ines smiled at Chewie.
"Thanks for walk me on the aisle Chewie" Ines said to the Wookie, who nod and hugged the bride.
Luke's apartment a few floors upstairs:
Luke was walking back and forth in the living room. Why he was nervous? He was already a married man, but today was different. Today it was in front of everyone. Today he would show to everyone how much he loved her. He couldn't wait to see her in that wedding dress. He knew she would be beautiful. He smiled imagining, watching her walking down the aisle.
Han entered in the room
"Luke, are you ready? We must go"
Luke looked at him and nod taking a few deep breath. Trust the force, he thought
"Okay, I'm ready"
"Wait till you see her, kid" Han smiled patting his friend shoulder, making Luke smiling.
"Let's get marry, again"
And the two friends left the apartment followed by R2 beeping all excited.
The wedding was held in one in the Senate Gardens, right next the Senate building. The ceremony would take place in the Garden of Justice, while the reception was in the Garden of Equality.
Everyone was already there, sitting on the chairs, with Admiral Ackbar in position, when Luke arrived with Han.
"Admiral, I'm glad you doing this" Luke said shaking his hand
"It is a pleasure Jedi Knight Skywalker" the admiral said.
A few minutes later 3PO appeared, walking into Luke direction.
"Master Luke, Princess Leia just told me to inform you that bride arrived"
With that, everyone stood up and Leia entered first, making everyone whispered how beautiful she looked.
Luke looked at Han and whispered
"One day she will be the wearing a wedding dress" making Han smiled.
Then everyone started to smiled when R2 appeared, rolling down the aisle, beeping and looking around. Luke laughed at the scene. Of course his little friend droid would be his ring bearer.
Then when he looked away, he lost his breath away when he saw her, holding Chewie arm. Their eyes locked and they couldn't take away from each other.
Once they reached them, Chewie growled and Ines looked up to him and hugged him, before grabbing Luke's left hand.
"You looked so beautiful" he told her smiling.
"You also looked so handsome" she replied as they look to Admiral Ackbar.
"To all present I say: We are gathered here, not to witness the beginning of what will be, but rather what already is! We do not create this marriage, because we cannot. We can and do, however, celebrate with Commander Luke Skywalker and Mistress Ines Talia the wondrous and joyful occurrence that has already taken place in their lives, and the commitment they make today. I know the bride and groom have some words to say towards each other"
Luke and Ines faced each other, holding their hands.
"Ines, you have been my best friend, confidant, and my greatest challenge. But most importantly, you are the love of my life and you make me happier than I could ever imagine and more loved than I ever thought possible. You have made me a better person, as our love for one another is reflected in the way I live my life. So I am truly blessed to be a part of your life, which as of today becomes our life together, and blessed for calling you the mother of my children. I could never choose any other person to spend the rest of my life with. I love you and always will"
Ines smiled trying to fight the tears of her eyes.
"Luke, I promise to respect, admire and appreciate you for who you are, as well as for the person you wish to become, to be there for you when you need me, whenever you need me, to keep our lives exciting, adventurous, and full of passion, to persevere when times get tough, knowing that any challenges we might face, we will conquer them together, to treat you with compassion rather than fairness, because we are a team, now and for always, to show you, every day, that I know exactly how lucky I am to have you in my life. There was not other man that I choose to be the father of my children. I love you and always will"
Luke smiled at her.
"The wedding rings" Ackbar asked and R2 appeared with the two rings.
Luke grabbed one and putting on Ines finger he looked at her and said
"Ines, take this ring as the symbol of my love for you"
Ines, looked at R2 and grabbing the other ring, she put on Luke's finger and looking at him she said:
"Luke, take this ring as the symbol of my love for you"
After that Admiral Ackbar spoke:
"True marriage is more than joining the bonds of marriage of two persons; it is the union of two hearts. It lives on the love you give each other and never grows old, but thrives on the joy of each new day. Marriage is love. May you always be able to talk things over, to confide in each other, to laugh with each other, to enjoy life together, and to share moments of quiet and peace, when the day is done. May you be blessed with a lifetime of happiness and a home of warmth and understanding. I pronounce you now husband and wife"
Luke and Ines smiled at each other, and getting closer they kissed.
"My wife" Luke said to her
"My husband" Ines replied smiling.
"My friends, let me present to you: Mr and Mrs Skywalker"
Everyone stand up and clapped as Luke and Ines face them smiling, happy.
