They had been in the air for almost an hour, Skye had been sitting in one of the seats by the window looking at the ground below or clouds, when Ward sat down in front of her.
"Hey, do we have a mission?" Skye asked.
"No, I just wanted to talk, if that's okay, or we can just sit here?" Ward said looking at her with strangely soft eyes.
"We can talk, what's up?" Skye asked.
"I was just thinking that you did a good job acting older than you are, I really fell for it," Ward said, still looking at her with soft eyes.
"Yeah, I grew up fast," Skye said starting to get a little creeped out at the way Ward was looking at her.
"Many people do sadly," Ward said tilting his head, which to Skye was very weird behavior for him. She didn't know what to say to him, so she just nodded.
"Did you stay at the Triskelion the whole time?" Ward asked.
"No, but mostly," Skye answered.
"Who did you stay with? I remember you were with Commander Hill when you told me you were seventeen, was she your guardian?" Ward asked in a bizarre tone and his body language went from relaxed to tense, but he was quick to compose himself and acted like it didn't happen.
And if it wasn't for Natasha's and Sharon's training she wouldn't have caught it, but she didn't say anything.
"Um, I am not allowed to say who was my guardian, but when we met, Commander Hill was escorting me since she was at the base I had been visiting for some test's back at the Triskelion, since my guardian was busy with something," Skye told him.
"Why aren't you allowed to say who it was?" Ward asked.
Skye shrugged, "I'm just not, I don't know," Skye said.
"Really, you of all people following orders without reason?" Ward said in disbelief and amusement.
"Yes, I have grown, Ward. I know now that sometimes it is best to keep secrets, even if it is something small," Skye said, a little offended.
"Wow, easy I didn't mean it like that, just you know," Ward said, gesturing to her like she knew what he meant, and she did know what he meant.
"I understand what you mean, Ward," Skye deadpanned.
Ward cleared his throat and was about to say something when May came over to them.
"Skye, training in ten, and don't be late," she said walking away. Skye could have cried in relief at getting away from Ward but didn't since Ward was still sitting in front of her.
"Talk later?" She asked, but only because she didn't want to be rude. He nodded, and she walked away. What she didn't know was the way he watched her retreating form.
"I hear from Natasha that you have gotten far," May said in a low voice so Ward, who was standing at the top of the stairs watching them, couldn't hear.
"She is tough, I am amazed I'm still alive," Skye joked back in a low voice.
May bit her lip but otherwise didn't show her amusement of Skye's joke, but they all heard Fitz laugh, even Ward.
"Argh, Fitz, it wasn't that funny, and it was ages ago," Simmons said, loud enough for Ward to hear.
"Nice save Simmons," Skye said still in a low voice.
"You're welcome, did he buy it?" Simmons asked.
"It looks like it, but I don't really think it was necessary since he can't hear what's going on in the lab from up there. Now he will probably know what was so funny, maybe, who knows with him," Skye said.
"Oh right," Simmons said.
"Are you two done? We are not done here," May said from beside Skye, Skye looked up at May looking a little sheepish and mumbled a sorry.
Simmons also mumbled sorry but looked more embarrassed than Skye had.
Coulson called May up to his office fifteen minutes later, May told Skye to pack up the mats and left. Skye quickly put them away. She was on her way into the lab, when she saw Ward was still looking down, but he looked lost in thought.
"Hey," Skye greeted when she entered the lab.
"Hello Skye, do you need something?" Simmons asked with a smile while Fitz waved his hand, bent over something she couldn't see from where she was.
"Yes, Maria said I need to have my blood checked, to come to you," Skye said in a low voice.
"Oh yes, I got a message earlier today about it. How about tonight, when Coulson and Ward are sleeping?" Simmons asked, Skye nodded and went to take a shower.
After Skye showered, they were all called to the briefing room, they had a mission.
"We have received word about an abnormal reading in Nevada, similar to the ones we had in New Mexico when Thor was here. HQ wants us to take a look at it," Coulson said.
"They think it could be Thor? But doesn't he still think you're dead?" Skye asked.
"Yes, he does, that's why I will be hiding away while Ward, May, and Fitz make contact," Coulson said, dismissing them after going over the plan and where they would meet the backup.
Skye followed May to the cockpit, "You think it could be Thor? If it is, let's hope we don't get clean up duty again," Skye said.
"Maybe, we will find out when we get there," May said sitting down in the pilot seat, Skye sat down in the copilot seat.
There was silence for a while, May was piloting since they had to follow the guidelines of the air space they were in, and Skye was looking out of the window.
"I had almost forgotten how peaceful it is up here, and the beautiful view," Skye commented quietly, May humming her agreement.
A few minutes later Ward pretty much barged in making May glare at him, but he either didn't notice or didn't care.
"Hey Skye, do you want to play battleship? It is still a good training exercise," he asked.
"She can't," May said in a monotone voice, Ward looked at May.
"And why not, Agent May?" Ward asked with a hint of irritation in his voice.
"I am teaching her the ropes of flying the Bus," May said. Skye snapped her attention to May, she was fairly sure her jaw was on the floor, Ward was just as shocked.
"You're teaching her to fly?" Ward asked in disbelief.
"Yes, I am her SO, and since I am the pilot I only think it practical for me to teach her since I am in here a lot. Not that I have to explain it to you, Agent Ward," May informed him. He could do nothing but stare, then his face went stoic, and he left as rudely as he came.
"Close your mouth and pay attention," May ordered, Skye did as she was told.
"Are you really going to teach me how to fly?" she asked.
"Yes," was May's short answer. May then got up to grab the manuals for the Bus, she told Skye to memorize them, Skye being Skye groaned, and May just ignored it.
It wasn't Thor who had come; it was two other Asgardians called Lorelei and Lady Sif.
Lady Sif agreed to not tell Thor that Coulson was alive and explained why she was here. She told them that Lorelei had escaped and could control men with just her voice, though with the rare strong man, she had to use touch. The guys on the team were confused as to why it only worked on men, Sif just informed them that men were basically weak.
When Ward came under Lorelei's influence, it took the team a few days to find him and Lorelei. Skye managed to track them down to a hotel in Las Vegas, a team of only female agents were sent there, but they had just missed them.
By the time May returned, Skye was already searching with Simmons for Ward in the lab. Coulson and May were standing in the cargo area, Lady Sif had gone to the Cage to grab the collar that would cut off Lorelei's influence, and Fitz was in the kitchen getting something to drink, when the plane jolted.
"What's happening!?" Simmons almost screamed.
"Ward has taken over the plane, and probably locked Sif in the Cage. Can you check Skye?" Coulson said, trying to keep his balance.
"Yes, in a minute," Skye said, also trying to keep her balance, seriously wondering who is flying the Bus.
A few almost agonizing seconds later, the Bus was flying smooth through the sky.
"Coulson, Sif isn't in the Cage and the video shows she was sucked out," Skye told Coulson, to which he told Skye to open it up again, that Sif was Asgardian, she was out there. Skye did as she was told, and as Coulson had said, Sif jumped through the airlock a moment later.
"Simmons, Skye, stay here and lock the doors," Coulson ordered, before him and May ran upstairs.
"Hey, wait!" Skye yelled after them, but they didn't react, Skye sighed in annoyance.
"What do you think is happening up there?" Simmons asked after some time.
"I don't know but it has been too long since we have heard anything," Skye said, just as Fitz rounded the corner from the other side of the lab, then the cargo bay, and spiral stairs.
"Simmons, Skye, open up, Lorelei could maybe use your help to take over the world, or after," Fitz said, lightly banging on the door, he still sounded like the Fitz they knew, but they also knew for sure that he was under Lorelei's influence.
"Simmons, make contact with Natasha and see if she can get through to him," Skye whispered.
"Ah good idea," Simmons said, Fitz kept tapping the glass door and asking them to open up.
"She can't even get through to him, it's like there is a block," Simmons said, a little upset.
"Come on guys, we can all help each other here, just open up," Fitz tried again.
"Fitz, I don't think-" Simmons started but Skye opened the door, and Fitz walked in smiling.
"SKYE!" Simmons shrieked, while Fitz thanked Skye for her cooperation.
Soon, though, there was a thump sound and Fitz was on the floor out cold with Skye standing with a fire extinguisher over him.
"Skye?" Simmons asked.
"What? We need to help May and Sif to take care of this mess. Ward and Fitz are already out, and Coulson, he is a man after all. Now Fitz is down, that leaves Ward, Lorelei, and maybe Coulson, so come on," Skye said, walking over to were Fitz had been checking over a few Night-Night guns, still a stupid name in Skye's opinion, and taking two. She handed one to Simmons, who looked like she was annoyed with herself for not thinking of the situation they were in. Simmons nodded in acceptance of Skye's reasoning and took the Night-Night gun Skye was handing her.
"Should we tie him up?" Skye asked, to which Simmons reluctantly agreed.
"Poor Fitz," Simmons said.
"You can make him his favorite sandwich and cuddle with him after this," Skye suggested, Simmons only hummed in response.
"Which way?" Simmons asked.
"I don't know, the back way?" Skye asked Simmons, who nodded, and off they went the same way Fitz had come from.
They were almost at the stairs when Coulson showed up, they both took a shot but missed.
"Whoa, it's me," Coulson yelled at them.
"Sir, are you, you?" Simmons asked.
"Yes, of course I am," he said.
"Prove it, I just had to knock Fitz out, so prove that you are you and not influenced by Lorelei," Skye said, aiming her gun at him.
"How do I do that? We don't have time for this, Sif and Lorelei are fighting in the Cage, and Ward and May are messing up my plane with their fighting," Coulson said.
Skye and Simmons looked at one another and said simultaneously "It's him," Coulson just stared at them.
"You love this plane way too much AC," Skye just told him.
The three of them made it up to the main level to see May and Ward on their backs, Ward with a gun in hand aiming at May's face, and the only thing that could be heard was the click when Ward pulled the trigger. Luckily, May had managed to take the mag out of the gun and effectively make it as useful as a rock.
Ward became himself again, just then, and asked what was going on. May eyed him guardedly, not believing him. Sif arrived and said he was telling the truth, she had collard Lorelei again.
Skye breathed a sigh of relief.
Once Sif went home with her prisoner, the team was grounded for a few days while the Bus was being repaired again. Simmons and Fitz disappeared into the base they were at, while Ward was in medical. Fitz had already been cleared as he wasn't affected by Lorelei as long as Ward had been. Coulson was in a virtual meeting with Fury.
May and Skye were lounging in a break room, Skye on her computer and May with a book.
"You did good today," May said suddenly.
Skye looked up, "Thanks," Skye said in a small voice.
Skye's phone started to ring, when she saw who it was, she looked around the room.
"You can take it, we are secure here," May said.
When Skye pressed answer and was about to say hello, she nearly dropped her phone due to the person's yelling.
"HOW THE EVER FREAKING HELL DID YOU THINK IT WAS A GOOD IDEA TO TAKE ON AN ASGARDIAN THAT HAD CONTROL OF TWO OF YOUR TEAM MEMBERS!" Maria's voice came out, loud and clear.
"Hi Maria," Skye said sweetly, she heard a scoff on the other end.
"That won't help you," Maria said.
"Come on Maria, what should I have done then?" Skye asked.
"You could have contacted me or Sharon," Maria said.
"And have you do what? Sharon is on a mission and you have had meetings all day, and even if you didn't, what would you have done? Somehow gotten on board a flying plane and taken her on yourself, even if we already had an Asgardian helping us? It wasn't like I took her on. I didn't even take on Ward, May did that, I only knocked out Fitz," Skye stated.
She could hear Maria fumble for a response.
"I know that you and Sharon worry, but I am fine, not even a bruise, promise," Skye said.
"Give the phone to May," Maria said, Skye shook her head and handed her phone to May who raised an eyebrow. Skye did the same in response to May because she knew that May had heard every word, May smirked at Skye and took the phone.
"Yes, Maria, she is fine. She did a good job today and the past few days. Yes, I will still keep an eye out for her, bye Maria," May said, not even letting Maria say anything before handing the phone back to Skye.
Skye was having a hard time not laughing, "Happy now?" Skye asked over the phone, she got a grumble back, but she recognized the word yes.
"Hey, why didn't you just use the mind link?" Skye asked.
"I was too emotional when I learnt the full scope of what you have been doing this week," Maria answered.
"What does Sharon know?" Skye asked.
"Only a little, but she should be back tomorrow night. I'll calm her down and tell her to call you or mind link you if she's up for it," Maria said.
"Okay, talk to you later," Skye said.
"Yes, we'll talk later, love you," Maria said.
"I love you too, bye," Skye said, hanging up.
"I see things are going fine with you, Maria, and Sharon," May commented.
"Yes, it's amazing. How's Bobbi?" Skye asked.
"Don't you talk to her?" May asked.
"Yes, I do, but," Skye stopped not knowing how to phrase what she wanted to say.
"You're worried she isn't telling you the whole truth," May said more than asked.
"Well yeah, I know she doesn't owe me the truth," Skye said.
"She is fine, but she is still a little down, you could say, as to what your bond has ended up being," May said with a hint of guilt in her voice, but you would only have caught it if you knew the real May.
Skye looked down; she had liked Bobbi and had kind of hoped that they could figure something out between Bobbi, Sharon, Maria, and her, but it was too late now, the bonds were set now.
