Chapter 42, enjoy!

"Bottles - check," Tami said out loud as she scribbled a line through bottles on her handwritten shopping list. Tami and Julie had been in the store for nearly forty-five minutes and had checked just few items off their list. Julie sighed.

"Five things down and how many more to go?" Julie asked sarcastically.

"Next is a car seat," Tami read off her list, ignoring Julie's sarcastic comment. They searched down the baby aisle for a car seat that was suitable for a newborn. Tami glanced through the options, looking for the best rated car seat. She finally settled on one and placed the large box in their cart. "We can check that one off now too," Tami announced as she did just that.

"How many more are there?" Julie groaned, rubbing her already sore back. "You said this wouldn't take longer than 3 hours."

"If you would stop your whining and help this would go by a lot quicker. Go pick out some blankets and baby clothes you like," Tami instructed. Julie did as she was told and walked further down the aisle where there was a wide selection of clothes and blankets. Julie picked out a soft pink polka dot blanket, a purple blanket, and a neutral grey blanket. She selected a few girly colored outfits from the large stack of tiny clothing items with cheesy sayings on them. She returned to the other end of the aisle where her mom was searching for a stroller. She placed the items in the backset and drew a mark though the items on the list she had just grabbed.

So far it had been forty-five minutes of pure torture for Julie. Her back and feet were killing her, not to mention her mom's annoying drill sergent mentality. She pulled out her phone to see how much time had passed and saw she had a text from Tim. How's the shopping going? She rolled her eyes and texted back: Come save me please. He quickly responded: Ha ha can't be that bad. She sighed and didn't get a chance to answer before Tami began barking out more orders. She followed her mom's instructions, hoping that would make this trip end faster.

"So have ya'll thought of any names?" Tami asked as they looked through diper bag options.

"Yeah we've been talking about it some," Julie answered.

"Any you really like?" Tami quizzed.

"Tim likes the name Rylie," Julie informed.

"Are there any you like?" Tami asked again.

"Yeah, I like Rylie and Raylee."

"Here, how about we get this. She's going to need a name before she leaves the hospital," Tami stated after landing her eyes on a baby names book. "And she's going to take Tim's last name?" Tami inquired curiously. She hadn't tried to push these details on the pair yet; she wanted to see if they approached it on their own, and it seems they had.

"Yeah, she's going to be a Riggins," Julie answered quickly, not having to think twice about her daughter taking her boyfriend's name.

"Ok, well because you two aren't married she can take your last name if you want. Just thought I'd make sure you knew that was an option," Tami replied. Gah, never thought I'd hear the words "she's going to be a Riggins" come out of my daughters mouth in reference to her grand daughter's last name. I will say that boy has cleaned up his act here in the past year. "This is really happening," Tami whispered out loud. "My daughter is having a kid." Tami went back to shopping for the necessities, it was a way to distract herself from the thought of her daughter becoming a mother at the age of 17. Then it hit her, if Julie is becoming a mother, that makes me a grandmother. Gosh that makes me feel old!

"What about a crib, mom?" Julie asked as she stared at the selection of baby cribs.

"I still have yours," Tami answered. "We kept it incase we had another baby," Tami confessed with a hint of sadness. "We tried for a really long time, but I guess God wanted us to be young grandparents instead." Julie didn't verbally respond, she just sent her mom a comforting smile. They spent the next couple of hours silently shopping. Tami was still stuck in her thoughts about being a grandmother.

"Night Coach, I'm heading to bed," Tim announced getting up from his spot on the couch. Julie had gone to bed early, wore out from the day of shopping, and Shelley was also already in bed. "Night Mrs. T."

"Good night Tim," Both Tami and Eric replied in unison. After Tami was sure Tim was in bed, she sat down in Tim's vacant spot.

"Eric, do you realize that we are going to be grandparents?" Tami asked "Our baby girls is going to have a baby girl of her own."

"It's really starting to soak in," Eric replied, the fact of him being a grandpa not dawning on him until Tami brought it up.

"We never could have any more kids after Julie, maybe this is our way of having a second child," Tami elaborated.

"I never thought of it like that," Eric responded Tami laid her head on his shoulder.

"I hope she doesn't call me Grandma, I'd prefer something that didn't sound so old. Maybe something like Nana," Tami expressed. "When did we get so old?"

"I don't know hun," He replied.

"I'm going to bed," She announced as she began walking down the hallway. She peeked into Julie's room where Tim and Julie were fast asleep. Tim was sprawled out across the bed and Julie had her head on his shoulder and her hand across his chest. Young love, Tami thought, I remember those days. Her heart fluttered and a smile crossed her face when she realized that in a few short weeks the two teenagers would be a small family of their own. When Tami found out Julie and Tim were dating, she was not very fond of the idea, but after seeing how supportive he was of Julie during her pregnancy, she wouldn't want her daughter to be with anyone else.
