Chapter 42
Clark's idea worked and once back in National City, Lillian was quickly put into stasis. They had lucked out that the now reactivated site had been used for storage and a stasis chamber was available. Now the DEO medical team worked with Brainy to see how they could reverse the Nth metal poisoning.
The others spent a few days searching for the alien power generator that Andrea stole. The facility was massive and trying to find something that was only seven inches by five inches by about five-eighths of an inch thick was not easy, especially since the computer bank was still down. Lena even tried cutting the power and attempting to reboot it. Nothing seemed to be working and she wondered if her brother had worked in some sort of kill switch when the manual override button was pushed.
Since the interface was no longer responding, Lena had Kate help her remove the hard drives. They were large and heavy, too heavy for the private plane they had come on, so Lena called in Luthor Corp's transport branch. She told them that she wanted the drives to be transported to their National City headquarters and that she was the only authorized person who could work on them. They would be locked in a secret storage until she and the others could get back to them and try and breach whatever security had fallen into place.
"I need some sleep," Nia said, collapsing into her seat on the plane.
"Do you dream like normal or like when you sleep you get Dreamer dreams?" Kate wondered as she flopped down in the seat across the aisle.
"You must be tired if you're asking that question," Kara chuckled as she sat down next to Kate. They had been all over that facility and had finally found the alien power generator in the back corner of a storage room, three days after Lillian was evacuated. Everyone had used the facility's shower and bunk room to at least make sure they had a chance to be clean and get some sleep. The food was lacking as most of it consisted of MRE's and Lena was disappointed her brother hadn't left any decent food behind.
"No offense to Lena but I don't sleep well sitting up," Kate said. Kara was about to suggest she catch some sleep on the couch when she realized that J'onn was passed out on it. He'd pushed himself harder than he needed to. Neither the Martians nor Supergirl needed to get sleep every day but he'd only caught power naps the entire time they were at the facility. M'gann must have yelled at him to get some sleep and to stop worrying about everyone else.
"Kate asked a good question Nia," M'gann sat down next to the human-Naltorian hybrid.
"I don't actually dream much, just plain old dreams, I mean," Nia explained.
"Don't tell me Lena is going to try and fly the plane by herself," Kate noticed that the raven haired woman wasn't in the passenger compartment of the plane.
"Oh no. I had two Luthor Corp's pilots agree to get us home. They'll be getting a nice present when we get to National City. Everybody buckle up, the pilot was just given the go-ahead to taxi to the runway," Lena said as she came back from the cockpit. She plopped into a seat across from the couch that J'onn had taken up. They quickly made sure everything was stowed before buckling into their seats.
The long flight was fairly uneventful, which everyone was glad for. When they arrived back in National City, they split up to go to their respective abodes. Kara and Kate swung by Alex's apartment though first.
"Hey, you guys are back," the redhead had answered the door with a smile, she was definitely feeling better and Kara quickly gave her a gentle hug.
"Sorry you missed out on all the action," the blonde said as the three headed inside her apartment.
"Well you kind of missed out on some action here too," Alex admitted.
"What happened?" Kate was concerned.
"I moved in," Kelly smiled as she came out of the kitchen to meet them.
"Yay!" Kara gave the psychologist a hug too.
"Good for you guys," Kate smiled and gave both ladies a hug.
"You two want to stay for dinner or was this a quick 'hey we're back in town' kind of visit?" Kelly asked.
"Dinner sounds good to me," Kara said, turning to Kate.
"I can definitely eat," the brunette smiled. Kelly quickly headed for where Alex kept the menus and the four spent a nice evening together. In the morning, Kate and Kara made plans to head to Gotham. They still had some business to attend to.
