Chapter 42
Louisa's point of view
I kept looking out of the window of my seat while Will was driving the car at a moderate speed. I could not deny the fact that going to a wedding of someone I did not know was somewhat nettlesome for me. Even though Will hid things behind an impassive façade, it must be even more difficult for him to see his ex-lover getting married to his dearest friend. Some curious part of me wanted to know how he felt although he did appear quite cool about the whole thing last Friday.
Not being able to suppress my curiosity, I turned towards him.
"Tell me the truth honestly, " I said; looking at him with a pensive expression.
"How do you feel about your best friend and your ex-girlfriend getting married?" I asked; keeping my eyes upon him.
"To be honest, pretty cool."
"Besides, Alicia had other priorities except me."
"I realized that we wouldn't be suited for each other as partners in the long run," he continued; looking straight ahead on the road.
"The break up was pretty mutual."
"I think Rupert and Alicia complement each other," he said; smiling.
"They understand each other quite well."
There was a momentary pause. I saw the wheels turning around in his head by the intensity of his arctic eyes showering full concentration on driving. Our silence was cut off by his velvety voice.
"Infact, I was planning to buy her a fair number of looking glasses so that she could stare at herself 24/7 as her wedding presents.
I couldn't contain my laughter. It just spurted out effortlessly. Our interactions were so seamless that they resembled relentless flowing rivers with crystal clear water. I laughed out to my heart's content.
"Did you seriously intend to buy her some mirrors?" I asked him between peals of my laughter
"Yes, I did," he replied; laughing with me
"But I changed my mind at the last moment. Instead, I bought her a set of china glassware," he continued with clear traces of amusement in his voice
"You can look back at the silvery gift box."
"You really are something, Will Traynor, " I said purely with the intention of good humor.
"Thank you for the compliment, Louisa Clarke, " he countered jokingly grinning in the most adorable fashion.
Time did seem to march quite fast when I was with Will. I did not realize how quickly we arrived at Alicia's wedding. It was probably because how all my daily worries just escaped my mind. This was pretty rare when I had to work at Buttered Bun. I could not even seem to recall going to any marriage functions in those days. These couple of months had turned me into a carefree person.
