41.- Emir
Local guide Emir is just having another day in the business, until this quite dysfunctional couple arrives. The lady speaks of a cursed estate outside of Aksaray. The Karel estate. "I have heard the stories," Emir says. "I have lost many people there. I will only guide you to the door. Then it's up to you to cross it." The woman is relaxed. "It's OK," Lara says. "I don't want to lose another guide."
And so they arrive at the door… The threshold of Karel's estate. Yet there is no Karel in there. With luck, they might find and stop Gunderson. The wind just blows eerie and they haven't gone in yet. "It's a madhouse," Kurtis says. "Are you sure you'll be OK?" Lara looks at him. "It's not my first madhouse," she answers. Emir has long run away. The clever choice to make for the modest man.
The Chirugai is shaking, and Kurtis is excessively on guard. "I can hear them," Kurtis says. "The screams of the dead. They are rotting my mind." Lara puts a hand on his back. "Relax," she says. "I don't want you to go Occitan's way." The air is indeed heavier, but Lara moves on at ease. Until they arrive at the great hall underground. "It definitely looks like a last dominion," Lara says. A blood sign shines, and starts sucking all of Lara's and Kurtis soul. But Kurtis releases the Chirugai, and it destroys Karel's blood sign at the gate. Thus, the Chirugai and the souls of the Trents are no more. "I can still hear them," Kurtis says. "It's all on your hands now."
Kurtis succumbs to the pain of the lost souls beyond the Lost Dominion gate. And there stands Gunderson, with his split Crosses of St. John, and his Sanglyph. A Sanglyph of Light. "This is the end of the road for you," Gunderson says. "I will end the Great Work!" A beam of light attacks Lara, but a Shard cuts it in half. "The Shards!" Gunderson says. And he strikes again, and again, and again. All in vain. Nothing can stop the Shards. And one by one, they end up in Gunderson's chest. The Cabal is no more. The Lux Veritatis has finished its dance.
But the screams in Karel's estate don't subside. "Whatever is on the other side of that gate, let's leave it closed," Lara says. She picks the Shards from Gunderson's body, which turns into ash. Then she looks at Kurtis, who lies on the floor, as a regular man. "You may come to visit me whenever you want," Lara says as she leaves Kurtis behind again.
YES.
Kurtis still lies on the floor, but Lara's now far away.
