Phoe's Tumblr Drabbles
After the war, Percy needed to get away from everything. Well. He finished high school first, he also couldn't just leave his mother just like that. But when he graduated, he left. He'd talked about it with his mom and Paul and they agreed; he wasn't doing good, he'd been through so much. He needed to get away from it all and see something different, something new. Leave the wars and camp and monsters behind. So he backpacked through Europe. He regularly called his family and he texted with Annabeth and Grover occasionally, but mostly he really did want to get some distance. The only one he couldn't get any distance from was the sun himself.
At first, he felt annoyed, stalked. But with the time, he found comfort in it. Felt... watched over. He'd even talk to Apollo. Or rather, the sun, not the god himself. Have his head tilted up toward the sky and tell the sun about his day, knowing Apollo was listening but also not having to go through the emotional labor of having an actual conversation with someone.
Some days, he talked about more than that. About the pain of the past. Giant War. Titan War. The quests and losses before it. The abuse, time with Gabe. He talked freely about things he never spoke about before, because it felt oddly anonymous and comforting to sit in the sun and talk to someone he knew was listening. When he talked about the heavier things in life, it sometimes made him cry. And that was when he felt the most like he wasn't alone, because the sky would clear up and the sun would shine down on him brightly, warming him, comforting him.
It took months for Apollo to actually show his face. And yet, talking to him in person came as natural and easy as talking to the sun in the sky. Only that now, he had someone to lean onto. Someone who held him when he needed someone to lean onto.
And now, when he spoke of something that made him cry, he found himself in Apollo's arms and though it was still the sun's warmth that dried his tears, it now came in a different form. Apollo would lean in and gently wipe his tears away, peppering his face in warm, comforting kisses.
"Where are we going next, love?" asked Apollo in a soft, dark voice.
He had an arm around Percy, Percy leaning into him. "I don't know. I follow the sun. You tell me."
Apollo laughed out, leaning in to kiss the top of Percy's head. It was true. Lately Percy had simply followed the sun, chasing him through Europe, always the setting sun at the horizon.
"Somewhere nice with a beach," requested Percy thoughtfully after a moment.
Everywhere was good, as long as he had his boyfriend's warmth and comfort with him.
