Review from Guest: How about a chapter of pure MayDaisy fluff with Daisy wanting cuddles :)
Four months wasn't that long in the grand scheme of things, but Daisy couldn't help but feel as though this trip to space had lasted too long. She loved the view and of course she loved exploring the universe with Daniel and her sister, but sometimes the challenges space presented were overwhelming. After a particularly difficult encounter with a group of aliens, which led to the loss of one of their agents, the team had gotten the okay to come back to headquarters to get medical help, restock their food supply, and refuel. Daisy was emotionally and physically drained. Daniel did his best to comfort his girlfriend, but after the week she'd had there was only one person she wanted at the moment.
Once Zephyr 3 landed Daisy made her way to the Director's office immediately. She needed to debrief, but she also needed to see her "big brother," Mack. She knocked on the metal door and eagerly pushed it open when she heard him grunt "come on in." Mack sat at a desk, which looked quite small with the large man sitting behind it, but he didn't look up to see who entered. It appeared as though he was extremely invested in a pile of paperwork. Daisy dramatically fell into the chair in front of his desk and propped her feet up. At this Mack looked up with his brow furrowed until it registered that the agent in his office was none other than Daisy Johnson.
"Tremors!" He greeted and made his way over to engulf the girl in a hug. The two of them didn't beat around the bush, quickly doing the debrief and got to the topic Daisy wanted to discuss.
"Anything else you need to add?" Mack asked moving to stand up.
"Actually, there's one more thing." Daisy fidgeted a little before forcing herself to ask. "Would it be alright if I took a couple days off? I know there are so many missions going on, but I just need like two days off fieldwork. Daniel and I talked about it and he encouraged me to talk to you. I could still hack and stuff, but-"
"Woah hold up there, Tremors! You've done a lot for Shield, I think we'll survive two days without the powerful Quake in the field." Mack chuckled, for which the girl was relieved.
"So, what're you going to do with all the free time?"
"I have something in mind." Daisy smirked before leaving the room.
Five hours later, Daisy found herself sitting in front of a building at the Coulson Academy. She had an iced coffee in one hand and a steaming cup of tea sitting next to her. Students and professors exited the building, some pausing to gawk at Quake sitting on the academy's steps, but Daisy didn't care. Her mind was on one person. She began to think she had gotten the woman's schedule mixed up, but she let out a breath of relief when she saw her. The woman walked out of the building dressed in all black and her aviator sunglasses already on her face. She made her way toward Daisy's general direction, and the second she laid eyes upon her girl a smile covered her face.
"May!" Daisy got up immediately and ran to embrace her in a hug which May returned in full force. Daisy wasn't sure how long she stayed wrapped in her mother's arms, but she never wanted to leave. She couldn't care less about the students snapping pictures of the superhero, Quake hugging the legendary Melinda May, all she cared about was that she was happy.
"How about we continue this love fest at home, hmm?" May chuckled and kept one arm around Daisy's shoulders as she led her to the car.
"Not that I'm not happy you're home, because I am very happy, but I thought you weren't due back for a couple months?"
"That was the plan, until we encountered some angry-assed aliens. The fight wasn't pretty, so the team isn't in the best shape. We lost Agent Peters." Daisy blinked back tears. Her little space-exploration team had become very close after spending months on end together, so losing Agent Peters had hit the team hard.
"Oh Dais, I'm sorry." May could feel the sorrow and pain radiating off of the younger girl and her heart broke for her daughter. Losing an agent was never easy, but especially for Daisy who had already experienced so much loss in her life. That was just one of the ways Daisy and Phil were so alike, they had an endless amount of empathy for others.
As soon as they got home, May went upstairs to change into her usual t-shirt and leggings while Daisy got settled. As she made her way down the stairs she found Daisy already curled in a blanket on the couch.
"What're you thinking for dinner?"
"Depends who's cooking." Daisy teased.
"Well Phil is in Ireland at the moment, so take-out it is."
May sat on the couch which led to Daisy scooting closer to lean into Melinda's side. She didn't care if it seemed childish, she wanted her mom. May wrapped her arm around her girl and twirled the girl's dirty-blonde locks through her fingers.
"I missed you." Daisy whispered.
"I missed you too." May could feel the stress exiting Daisy's body and smiled. She pulled the girl closer to her and sank into the couch cushions. The two had been close before, but since May's new powers, she became more comfortable with showing affection, much to Daisy's delight. If May was being honest, she loved this version of herself, and she loved these moments with her pseudo-daughter.
"I needed this." Daisy sighed.
"I know."
In that moment, with May quietly humming and playing with her hair, Daisy knew this is what she had been needing for the past two weeks. She breathed in the scent of tea and lavender, the familiarity of it causing her eyes to slip shut. Daisy could've sworn she heard May whisper "I love you" before she drifted off to sleep in her mother's arms.
