Reviews:
TheDemon1911 : I would highly recommend watching it. The action is great, the characters are brilliant, the show is also suprisingly deep and can get suprisingly dark at times. Just to give you an example (spoiler alert) one of the main antagonists of season one had part of his face burned off by his own father.
Chaitanya005 : Hey if you can't pay then that's fine, unfortunatly though you do have to pay to join the poll. Read the A/N at the end for more information.
Scandalf: My plan at the moment is to have Batman focus on a villian for a few chapters then move on to the next. I don't plan for ever villain to break out of jail again, a few might but not all of them.
Chapter 43 -
"Harry," Selina said as she walked down to the batcave where she found Harry sitting at the batcomputer and looking more information on Edward Nygma. "maybe Alfred was right." She commented as she stopped next to Harry.
"What do you mean?" Harry asked without looking away from the computer.
"Alfred is under the impression that we should fix up a bedroom in here for you to sleep in," Selina replied. "or perhaps a perch so you can hang upside down and sleep like that."
"Because I can turn into a bat?" Harry said with an amused snort as he finally looked at her as she leaned against his chair. "Very imaginative of you, equally as funny." Harry said in a dry voice.
"Yeah, I am a real comedian, now how about you actually try and spend some time outside of the cave? Like coming with me for that dinner meeting of ours." Selina suggested before she took a look at the screen. "Trying to figure out what went wrong with Nygma?" She asked.
"Yep," Harry nodded. "he got very good grades in school which we already knew but after that he got several degrees and he was working at a company owned by a man named 'Jim Gorshin', a couple of years working for him followed before Nygma suddenly disappeared. I just set up the computer to look through public information and try and find any connections between Nygma, Jim Gorshin, the company itself and all employees of Gorshin."
"Smart," Selina said with a nod before frowning. "I still can't help but wonder why he chose 'Riddler' as his name." She couldn't help but add.
"Well...as far as I can tell he likes riddles." Harry said in a dry voice. "If you remember right he liked to show off in classes."
"How could I forget?" Selina snorted, recalling that Nygma liked to put his hand up for nearly every question in every class.
"He honestly reminds me of Snape." Harry said with a small shake of his head.
"Snape? S...Snape, if I remember right then that's 'the greasy haired asshole who can't get over the fact that's he's an asshole and that's why he never got the girl'. Am I right?" She asked.
"Bang on." Harry smirked.
Thinking back, Harry couldn't help but feel like Professor Dumbledore had to have been on some form of very, very strong drugs to ever think that Snape - or 'Professor Snape' as Dumbledore always insisted Harry call him - was a good person. As far as Dumbledore had been concerned Snape was just simply a lost soul who had made some bad decisions. Harry on the other hand had a 'slightly' different opinion of what exactly Snape was. Though that might have been because unlike Dumbledore, Harry had to be the one to suffer through Snape.
Dumbledore could shout from the rooftops that Snape was a good person but there was no way in hell that Harry would believe it when the man had genuinely taken pleasure in bullying and tormenting people. It wasn't an act either, Harry knew how to tell the difference between what was an act or not, and Snape had definitely not been acting. No actor, muggle or magical, would have been able to be so consistently horrible for so many days in that many years.
Harry did not deny that over the years Snape had done some good things, but he did truly believe that any good things Snape had done had been for his own benefit or because he had to. A good example being saving Harry during Harry's first quidditch match when his broom was being cursed by someone - who he would later learn was Professor Quirrell, the stuttering mess that was the defence against the dark arts teacher at the time and the stupid idiot that had been willingly housing Voldemort in his own body - halfway through the match. Sure Snape had tried to save him but it wasn't because he wanted to, if someone told Harry that Snape would have let him die then Harry wouldn't have even batted an eye. Snape saved him for multiple reasons, there were three main ones: the first being the fact that he owed Harry a life debt thanks to Harry's father saving Snape's life, the second being that if Dumbledore had later found out that Snape had the opportunity to save the 'precious saviour of the wizarding world' and did not take it then Snape could kiss his job goodbye and unemployment would be the worst of his problems unless Dumbledore ended up being pissed off enough to actually let Snape go to Azkaban. That was not very likely but it was possible.
The third and main reason why Snape had saved Harry was because as a teacher he had to sign a magical contract every year along with the other teachers, the contract did many things, one of which was that it prevented him from causing serious harm to a student and caused him to act when a student was in serious danger. If it wasn't for that then Harry was positive that Snape wouldn't bother trying to save him. Another example was the fact that Snape had begged the dark lord to save Lily Potter - the one and only woman Snape had ever loved - but was perfectly fine with that meaning the death of James and Harry himself, her husband and son. If Lord Voldemort hadn't killed Lily Potter then it was very likely that Snape would still be a death eater through and through, or at least that's what most people believed. Personally Harry thought that the man had just been happy to play for both sides, both considering him too valuable to kill or seriously harm.
Dumbledore and Snape could both argue that Snape had loved Harry's mother, they could say it until they were blue in the face and Harry wouldn't believe them. Harry would never claim to be an expert in love, but when you love a woman you don't torment her son because you hated his father. No, as far as Harry was concerned Snape was just obsessed.
"Snape had a bad childhood, much like myself, he used it as an excuse for his behaviour." Harry said as he stood up. "From what little information I've so far viewed about Nygma's childhood I can say that there is something off about his as well."
"You think he was abused?" Selina asked.
"I'm not sure, I'll look into it more later. We've got dinner to get to."
Harry and Selina were currently sat in the middle of an expensive restraint, Harry being dressed in a simple but brilliant black suit with a white shirt. Selina on the other hand was wearing a beautiful black dress and had her hair done up in a ponytail. Katie Haywood arrived after a few minutes of the pair waiting, she was dressed in a lovely blue dress and her hair had been curled.
"It's a pleasure to see you again." Harry said once they were all sat down together. "This is my girlfriend, Selina Kyle." Harry said as he gestured to Selina.
"It's a pleasure to meet you." Selina said, extending a hand which Katie took and gently shook.
"Likewise, I don't know what your boyfriend has told you about me but my name is Katie Haywood." Katie said once she let go.
"He has told me that part," Selina said with a smile. "he has also told me that you are in charge of running a new charity designed to help poor, abused and starving children."
"Pretty much, yes." Katie confirmed with a nod and a smile of her own. "It's a...well, I suppose you could you say 'hobby', of mine."
"Excuse me," A voice said as a waiter arrived. "please pardon the interruption but I was wondering if you were all ready to order."
"Just give me a second, please." Katie said before she picked up her menu. As she scanned through it, Harry and Selina ordered their own food, once they were done Katie told the waiter what she wanted after she put the menu down.
"Excellent, I shall return with your food as soon as I possibly can." He said with a smile before he turned and left.
"Hmm, this is a very expensive place." Katie commented as she looked at the menu prices. "Though from what I have heard, the food is worth the price."
"I wouldn't worry much about the expenses." Harry told her with a smile. "We're not paying for anything here."
"Oh?" Katie asked, raising an eyebrow. "May I ask why not?"
"Of course you can ask, questions should be encouraged." Harry told her with a grin.
"Don't start irritating our dinner guest, Harry." Selina told him with a roll of her eyes before turning to Katie. "My apologize, my boyfriend likes to act like an idiot occasionally. The truth is we own this restaurant, or rather Harry's family owns this restaurant."
"Thanks for spoiling my fun," Harry said, giving Selina a mock glare before turning back to Katie. "anyway, I am rather curious to know why you are putting so much effort into your organisation. It's non-profit as far as you're concerned, so what's your reason for it?"
"Would you consider this to be an important question?" Katie asked instead of answering.
"Yes," Harry easily answered. "I will be blunt, Miss Haywood, if this is just a 'hobby' as you said then I believe my money would be better spent elsewhere. I'm not investing unless the person I invest in is also invested."
"A fair point, Mr Wayne," Katie nodded in understanding. "I have had a rather...'intense'...childhood. My mother died early on in my life, leaving only my father to take care of me. There are quite a lot of things that I would like to keep private, I'm sure you understand."
"Of course." Harry nodded before gesturing her to continue.
"Thank you," She said appreciatively before she continued speaking. "once I became a young adult I realised that I had plenty of money, I could do whatever I wanted whenever I wanted. I took a trip around the world, during one part of that trip I stopped inside a war torn village. In that village the people lived in fear of those who ran it, the women worried about being raped and the children didn't know if they were going to be kidnapped in the night while the men had to always wonder if today was the day they would be killed or the day that they would come home from work to discover that something had happened to their families. That along with my own childhood has pushed me to help others when I can, it's why I've set up multiple charities. Some to help children, some to help those in other countries and so on." She said, she would have continued but stopped when the waiter arrived. As Katie began thanking the waiter, Harry and Selina looked at each other and shared a silent conversation.
"Katie..." Selina began before pausing. "...or do you prefer Miss Haywood" Selina added once the waiter had gone. "
"Either one is fine with me, Miss Kyle." Katie replied.
"Call me Selina, please." Selina replied. "I don't know if you know this but I was adopted by the Wayne's. Prior to meeting Harry and joining their family I had lived the worst years of my life on the streets of Gotham."
"You were homeless?" Katie asked with a frown.
"Yes," Selina confirmed, Katie's frown had been more about the fact that she thought it was horrible that Selina had to be homeless rather than because she disliked homeless people, or at least Selina hoped so. "I did what I had to do to survive and my only friends and family were stray cats and kittens, or at least that is what it was like before this numbskull made his way into my life." She grinned as she gestured to Harry.
"Ahem," Harry coughed as he gave Selina a mock glare. "I seem to remember that it was you who approached me first. Anyway," Harry quickly turned to Katie before Selina could reply. "I personally have been blessed with a great childhood and loving family. But I know that that's not always the case, besides Selina I've known others who have suffered from horrible childhoods. I knew a guy named 'Black' who ran away from his home and abusive parents, I've known another person named Potter who went to his horrible Aunt and Uncle's house after his parents were killed in a terrorist attack. This charity is a very important one, Selina and I are more than willing to discuss it in great detail with you."
"Excellent." Katie said with a bright smile.
"Master Harold," Alfred said later when Harry and Selina had arrived back in the mansion. "I have just learnt that earlier this afternoon Edward Nygma had escaped from the GCPD." He told him.
"You see...this is why I don't go out much." Harry said to Selina.
A.N: Hi guys, hope you liked the chapter. And no, I've not abandoned this story, it's just not my main focus point so there will be less uploading than with my other stories.
Anyway, I had a vote for which story to do next, the winner was a crossover between Harry Potter and Avatar the Last Airbender. The story is called Emerald Dragon (you can find it by just clicking on my name and going from there) and the first chapter is already up on this website, while I've released the second chapter earlier today on my pat-reon account. Every chapter will have an early release on that site, if you want to search me up then just type in JB21Q.
Thanks for reading, feel free to leave a review.
