"What, what is it you must tell me?" Hermione asked as Cormac watched on in shock wondering what Poppy would say.
"Um ok firstly how open minded are you parents and this is an important question you must answer before I can tell you a thing" she responded as Cormac looked even more concerned now.
"Will she live Madam Pomfrey?" he asked looking terrified as he was still crying slightly from earlier.
"My parents are very open minded so I am lucky there I guess!" Hermione responded just after Cormac had spoken surprised when Poppy laughed.
"Oh Mr McLaggan you are funny. Hermione is fine and won't be dying any time soon however she is currently one week pregnant. I did tell you that our bodies work very differently to those of purely muggle physique. We can detect pregnancy this early because of the wonders of magic. Congratulations my dear!" she said with a smile as Hermione burst into tears and looked at Cormac who was sitting there with his mouth opening and closing like a stunned fish.
"Can it be terminated?" she asked as Cormac gasped and looked so horrified she thought he might scream but he didn't. Madam Pomfrey dropped the tray she'd been holding in shock and jumped as it clattered to the floor. You could hear a pin drop in that second.
"Miss Granger it is against the law to terminate a pregnancy for a witch of any blood status as the baby might have viable magic so it is always seen as a bad omen to terminate any pregnancy!" she responded clutching her chest in shock at all Hermione had said.
"Well I am sorry my question shocked you. In the muggle world this is done if the mother is too young and couldn't financially support the baby. I wouldn't wish to burden my parents with this. They are indeed very open minded but might wish to disown me for becoming an underage mother. I Hermione Jean Granger do hereby swear on my life and magic that I will under no circumstances take that potion ever again so mote it be!" she intoned while staring at Cormac who smiled deeply.
"Hermione whatever your parents say in my family we have more than enough money to support a child. Now my father will more than likely insist we get married. We should tell your parents right away though!" he said as Madam Pomfrey agreed and went to fetch Hermione's parents at home through their working floo through which she escorted them each one by one. She had to give them a special necklace to wear which allowed them to come to the school safely. Once they were both there they saw Hermione in the bed crying and rushed over to her.
"Hermione darling are you alright what is it?" her mother asked cuddling her close.
"Mum, dad sit down we need to talk. Do you remember me telling you guys what vows were? Well I gave someone in power I cannot mention a vow that I would not tell anyone he had given me a potion. This potion was meant to be for my safety however the potion really just made me do things I would never normally consent to doing. I would guess that it was designed to get me to loosen up a little bit too much" she said as her father rounded on her furiously.
"Hermione Jean Granger! You are not the smartest girl for nothing! I would assume you would not have done so if you did not implicitly trust the person. I know you said you cannot tell us who it was over this vow but can you nod in the affirmative if we guess who it was correctly?" he asked as she cried fresh tears and blushed deeply.
"I guess so I'm not sure!" she said as he looked at his wife for a moment and then nodded.
"Was it this Minister of Magic guy?" he asked as she nodded no. when he asked her about the headmaster she nodded yes and then burst into tears again.
"Mrs Pomfrey what is going on? I realise what my daughter said and clearly he wished to loosen up my daughter in ways which are not normal but why? I mean to ask you in which way is she sick?" he asked as Hermione once more threw up into a vessel she'd been handed by Cormac.
"This is Cormac McLaggan who is dating your daughter. Earlier in the week he came to me by himself asking me if I would check Hermione out for unusual effects lingering after the use of the potion on her system. They were sexually active in the library of all places and even though he did tell her they shouldn't do it she essentially told him to shut up and comply. It was of course as we now know due to this potion and is of course for this reason that I told Hermione today that she is one week pregnant!" she said as both John and Jean fainted out cold making her jump. They were revived and placed in chairs where they took their time to come to terms with everything.
"Hermione is too young to be a mother and cannot financially support a child can't it be terminated?" her father asked looking pained when it was explained to him by Madam Pomfrey why it could never be terminated.
"Well then you trusted that man and shame on you Hermione but you made your bed and you will lie in it. You will obviously have to get married I mean there's no question. I would suggest sooner rather later ok? No one wants a shotgun wedding!" Her mother scolded as Hermione gasped. Cormac's parents were sent for and flooed into the hospital wing looking shocked. Once they were told everything they vowed to charge Dumbledore formally later on. It was agreed to not blame the kids and simply get them married as soon as possible and as quietly as possible also. It would not be a grand affair either. That would be uncalled for in this circumstance.
"Mr Granger I love your daughter more than life itself and I promise to always financially support her and our unborn child. I just wanted you to know that!" Cormac said following it with a vow that he would protect them both always on his life and magic making Mr Granger gasp.
"I know from a little reading on the subject and magical people I've spoken to before how serious a vow like that is and I thank you for it Mr McLaggan!" he responded as they all agreed that Hermione and Cormac would be married in a few short weeks. In actuality while both sets of parents thought it was far too early for their sixteen/ seventeen year old kids to be having a baby they were very excited about becoming grandparents. It was after all a very exciting event. Hermione unfortunately would be unable to attend classes for two weeks as they worked to get her magically uncontrollable morning sickness under control. That was rare in the magical world but did happen from time to time and usually took about two weeks to cure. It would be an interesting time for those families for sure.
