Chapter 44 Epilogue : On To The Next Chapter

Hildy and Kami sat on the sofa together looking at an old Lena Horn movie. Kami turned, looked at her sweetheart, and sensed how tired Hildy was. Pulling her over, she encouraged Hildy to lay on the couch and place her head in her lap. Their detective firm took on a new client this past week, and Hildy spent the day following up on leads all over Manhattan. Kami knew her lover needed to relax so she gently ran her hand through her silky hair while and massaging her scalp.
After a few minutes of the gentle movement Kami though Hildy had fallen asleep until she spoke.
"Hey Kami, guess who called me today?"
"Who?"
"Donna".
"Donna? Donna who?"
Hildy gave a soft chuckle and said, "Oh how quickly we forget".
Kami frowned and she searched through her memories of persons with the name Donna, and then she remembered.
"Do you mean Jaz's Donna? " Kami asked in surprise.
"Yep,"
"I am surprised. I remember texting Jaz a few days after they went back to California a month ago to ask how things were, and she barely gave a two-word response. Since then, I have not reached out, I thought maybe she and her new lady wanted to put the entire episode behind them", Kami said.
After a few more moments of gentle head massage, Hildy spoke again.
"Donna apologized for not reaching out to us before. She also thanked us once again for our hospitality. Remember we got that greeting card from her a couple weeks ago in the mail? " Hildy asked.
"Ummhmm", Kami replied as she continued her massage.
"So, what did Donna want?"
Hildy burrowed her head deeper in her fiancée's lap, she smiled in pleasure from the magic of Kami's fingers in her hair.
After a few moments she continued. "Donna, said that she convinced Jaz to try therapy to sort out the root cause for some of her issues. She also said she will accompany her when Jaz is ready for her support in that area".
The ladies were quiet for a little longer then Kami said: "I am happy for them. With counselling help, Jaz will be a lot happier. And more importantly, I am happy for us". Kami said with a smile.
"We have each other. Can you believe it Hills …. we will be married later in this year. I can't wait for the next chapter in our lives to begin".
Hildy turned her head and looked lovingly at her future wife as she said, "Sweet heart, we do not have to wait until we marry to move on to the next chapter of our lives. The next chapter begins here.".
And with those words Hildy pulled Kami down to her as she claimed her lips is a deep and passionate kiss.
