Chapter 44 – Listen the Force
Luke entered in the Senate Hospital, holding Ines in his arms, being followed by Leia, Han, Lando, Chewie and the droids.
"Somebody" he yelled.
And human doctor came running
"What's wrong?"
"My wife, she is not breathing" he said.
"Come quickly" as she made Luke put Ines on a stretcher, she called help as they arrived in the room, she put a scanner above Ines body, showing her interior. She looked at Luke, "We hear a second heart beat"
"She is 4 ½ month pregnant" he informed
"Doctor she is collapsing" a droid informed her
"We need to intubate her, now" she ordered "And we need to take off this wedding dress. What is her name?"
"Ines Skywalker" Luke informed her "What's wrong with my wife?"
"Skywalker?" the doctor looked at him. At that moment Luke didn't care about that, all he want to know what was wrong with his wife and if their baby was okay.
"Mr Skywalker we need to you to step outside, please. We will come for you when we had some information"
"I'm not leaving her"
Leia grabbed Luke's arms
"Luke, let them work" she said and started to pull him out of the room while the doctors close the door.
Everyone in the waiting room was silent.
"How did this happen? She looked fine" Lando spoke.
Luke was walking back and forth. He knew something was wrong with that drink.
"It was that drink. I should have put it away the moment the waiter gave it to me" he said
"The Peppermint drink?" Han asked. "How did you know?"
"I heard the force the moment I grabbed that glass. What ever is happening to her, it was for me. Why she had to drink it?" he sighed grabbing his hair.
Minutes later the door of the room opened and the doctor who Luke saw the first moment he entered the care, came out. Everyone stood up, and Luke walked towards her
"How is my wife and my baby? What is wrong with her?"
"Mr Skywalker" she started looked at the people and then to him.
"Please don't hide anything from me"
She nod
"Your wife's lungs are being attack by some type of parasites."
"Parasites?!" Leia asked in shock
"Yes. We only saw one other case like this one. They attack mostly the lungs of the host."
"How do you treat it?" Han asked
"That is the problem, we don't have any treatment. It is so rare that there is no treatment for it"
Luke looked at her, shaking his head
"No. You are not telling me what I think you will tell me. No. We just got married, we have a baby boy on the way. She will not die"
The doctor sighed
"I'm really sorry."
Leia gasped and pulled Luke into a hug.
"We intubate her, and we are monitor the baby's heart beat. She is in a type of coma, so she is not suffering"
"How long does she have?" Lando asked
"Probably until the sun rise"
"6 Hours?" Han replied not believing it
"You can enter if you want" she said leaving, while Luke entered in the room. What he saw made his heart broke: the love of his life was laying there, with a tube insert down her mouth, her heart beat and blood pressure was showing on a monitor, while a some machine was around her belly where he could hear the heart beat of his baby. Once he saw that he broke, and kissing her forehead he trying to force bond with her but he couldn't hear her.
"You can't do this to me my love. Our destiny it is to be together with our children. You can't leave me" he cried resting his forehead on top of hers, while Leia was crying on Han's arms, who was fighting the tears.
"I will not lose you." Luke said and left the room.
"Luke where are you going?" Leia asked her brother, but Luke didn't even replied and left the building heading to the Temple.
Luke entered inside the Temple and head to the Jedi Council.
"BEN! MASTER YODA!" he yelled "FATHER!"
He stood there, breathing heavily.
"Why are you doing this to me? You said we were meant to be together. I had that vision of her right after giving birth. So why I'm about to lose her and our baby? Is this a punishment? Did I do something wrong?" He asked tears rolling down his cheeks. "I can't lose her and our baby boy. You said she would be my wife? For 12 hours? Is that it? Please help me. Tell me what to do? I beg you." he said falling to his knees, bending down his head. Right now he felt alone. He was about to lose the woman he loved and his child.
"Luke"
He looked up
"Father! You know what I'm feeling. Please I can't lose Ines. She is my world" he cried
"Son. We can't intervene. But trust the force. Listen what it's saying. You know the answer. Only you can save Ines" Anakin said before leaving
"Wait. Is that it? Father" Luke sighed. He felt alone. He didn't understand what the force kept saying to him.
After staying there for a while, he felt Leia calling him, and he ran towards the Hospital.
Once he arrived, Leia came in his direction with tears in her eyes.
"Is she?"
"No, but her condition got worse. The baby's heart beat is getting weak too." she said crying.
"They say we better say our goodbyes" Han told his friend.
Luke entered in the room, and tears started fall down his cheeks. He got closer to her, looking at her, she looked like she was sleeping peacefully. Resting his hand on her belly, he felt his baby move and started to cry. He didn't care if Leia and Han and Chewie were there.
R2 beeped sadly and even 3PO stayed there is silence
Chewie growled in pain. While Han pat Ines leg.
"It was nice to meet you kid" he started "I'm … gon…" He couldn't do it and left the room, followed by Chewie towards outside the building. Once he reached outside he started kicking everything he saw in front of him, while Chewie growled
"It is not fair Chewie" he said with tears rolling down his face "They don't deserve this. Today was a day of happiness. Luke doesn't deserve this and neither does Ines. They have a baby on the way, Chewie. How this is fair?"
Inside the room Leia was getting closer to her sister in law, crying.
"Hey." she said "Do you remember, when we were kids and you kept saying your life were not in Alderaan. We were around 10, and there was a kid who was after you, and you kept saying he was not your type, because the guy you will end up was the boy with blond hair and blue eyes that you saw in a dream. I laughed at that thinking you were crazy." she said smiling while tears kept running down her cheeks. "You got your guy. When I saw you in that Death Star with Luke, a guy with blond hair and blue eyes, I remember your words back then. You were right all along. Your love was not from our planet. You were always like a sister to me and now you are my sister. You can't leave us, you can't leave my brother. I know how much you love him. I'm going to miss your jokes and our talks"
Luke was sobbing. He couldn't say goodbye to her. He looked at her.
"My love. You can't leave me. How I will wake up in that bed without you by my side. Without see your face in the morning. Taste your lips, feeling your body on mine when we make love. Hear your voice, and your laugh, smell your perfume. Feeling our baby move and kicking. We promise each other we would be together, and raise our kids and our grand kids. We were meant to be together remember?" he kissed her cheeks, wetting them with his tears. "I have to say that when I saw you in that dress at Yavin 4, I thought you look so beautiful. I was falling in love with you back then. I should have told you sooner. I love you so much and you still made me the happiest man in the galaxy" he said feeling his baby move under the palm of his hand. "Why the force is doing this? Why it keep telling me Tatooine?" he said resting his head down, sobbing. He didn't get it why Tatooine kept coming into his head. What his home planet had anything to do with the fact his wife and baby were about to die, due to some parasites that were killing her. Then it hit him.
"Parasites" he said raising his head all of the sudden "Tatooine? I know why the force keep telling me Tatooine" he looked at his sister "I know how to save her"
"What? What are you talking about?"
"I know how to save Ines" he looked back at his wife "My love, I know you still there, please hold on. For me and for our baby. I'll be back. Just hold on" he said kissing her forehead, and looked at Leia "Stay here. I'll be right back" and he left the room running, leaving Leia alone.
How Tatooine can save Ines? What the force meant by that? Will Luke be able to save Ines and their baby in time?
