Prompt symbol: (heart): My muse's younger self

I hope that Shelly doesn't sound too precocious for an almost four-year-old.

"Shelly, there's somebody here that we want you to meet!"

Shelly scowled at the bundle in her mommy's arms. It was one of the ugliest things that she had ever seen. It was all pink and wrinkly. Last month, Aunt Flo had taken her to the petting zoo and she got to pet something called a naked mole rat. It looked just like the new baby, except that it was smaller and had teeth.

Aunt Flo had called the animal "disgusting" and wouldn't even go near it. So why was she cooing over the stupid baby now? Shelly didn't see any difference between the two.

"Shelly, is there anything that you would like to say to your little brother?" Randy asked behind his video camera.

"NO!" the little girl shouted. "It's yucky! I don't like it!"

"That's a very naughty thing to say, Shelly!" Aunt Flo admonished. "You need to be nice to the new baby!"

"Why?" Shelly asked.

Sharon sighed. Shelly was currently in the middle of her "Why?" phase.

"Because he's your little brother. Brothers and sisters are supposed to love each other."

"Why?"

"Because that's what families do! Would you like to hold him?" Sharon braced herself for the next "Why?"

Shelly hid behind her dad's leg in response.

"Come on, Shelly! Sit next to your Aunt Flo!" The old woman guided her grand niece to the couch.

Sharon sat down on Shelly's other side and placed the infant into her arms. She assisted her daughter in supporting his head.

Shelly glared down at her new brother. She didn't understand what was so great about him. He was ugly. He was smelly. He didn't have any teeth. Why was everybody paying so much attention to him?

"Would you look at that!" Aunt Flo gushed. "They're going to get along beautifully!"

"Come on, Shelly! Say something to the baby!" Randy coaxed, zooming in on his daughter's face with the camera.

Shelly continued to look at Stan disgustedly. She didn't want to talk to the dumb baby! She never even wanted him in the first place! Why couldn't she have gotten a pony instead?

There was one thing that Shelly wanted to say to the baby, but Aunt Flo washed her mouth out with soap the last time she said that word.

So she spit in his face instead.
