Chapter Forty-Three: Sound or Rash Action?

Endeavor Agency

Shoto has just finished an evening patrol with his father, and as of now, he's in the training room.

"Phew..."

The bi-haired boy was practicing on a punching bag, but some of his father's Sidekicks were noticing it...a strange aura billowing out of him. He stopped suddenly, realizing he needs to turn that off.

Haruunkaru Municipal Park

"There's one aspect to Hokuto Ryuken that you need to build up to... Matouki."

"What's Matouki?" asked Shoto as he finishing some warmup exercises.

"Truth be told, I wanted to hold off on that for a bit," Ryuki responded, wearily.

"Why?"

"Matouki is a very different beast compared to all the aspects of Hokuto Ryuken. If you don't handle it right, you'll lose it all..."

Shoto raises an eyebrow, asking what he meant by that.

"It draws upon emotion, very negative ones. However, that's the danger of Matouki, Shoto. I'll give you three chances to guess it."

The bi-haired boy stewed over for a bit, then it clicked, though he wasn't too sure. "The amount of hatred can overwhelm a person?"

"You got one part of it right. It can turn you into a raging demon called a Majin, slaughtering every person in sight."

Shoto flinched upon hearing that but understood immediately.

'Now I know why he wanted to hold off...'

"Just remember, once this threshold's crossed, there's no going back..." Ryuki said with a bit of warning. Shoto nodded in understanding, he would take that risk but took some deep breaths to prepare himself for it.

The both of them sat down in meditative poses, but with clenched fists.

"Picture an image of what you despise most."

An image of a sneering Endeavor appears in Shoto's mind...from when he was younger...when his mother was still around...

"We're only using this in bits, Shoto," responded Ryuki, his voice sounding a bit bestial.

"Under...stood..." Shoto responded, struggling to keep it under control despite activating a portion of it. "Must... keep... focus..."

"Just using a bit of it is overwhelming..." said a somewhat exhausted Todoroki. He felt a brief part of his still-living hatred for his father overwhelm him but thankfully kept it from going too far.

'I may hate you, old man. But not enough to let myself become a demon.'

"Hey, Shoto! The fuck's going on with you!?" barked a female voice. Shoto quickly turning around and recognizing her as one of his father's Sidekicks, Burnin?

"It's...not a problem...just used a bit too much energy."

"Fuck, then pull your punches a bit. You're gonna be no use if you tire yourself like that all the time!" Burnin responded. Shoto nodded but she continued. "Though... that smokey-type of thing, that's a new thing, is it?"

"...um...Yes," Shoto said, curtly.

"Where from?"

"A martial artist. From Shura-Kokka."

Burnin's eyes widen for a bit, now asking this: "Do you have deathwish or something?"

"No, why?"

"I heard that fighters from that place are known not to pull their punches."

"This one does at least."

.

.

.

"...Sometimes."

"Fuck, that would explain the bruises. And the muscle you're building up."

Kurismo City

This was something both Momo and Izuku didn't expect, doing freerunning across rooftops, but at least their teacher would be able to catch them if they fell. The latter started out first but needed a running start.

He leaped from one rooftop to a nearby one but stumbled upon landing.

Momo was next, running deliberately...and timed it. However, she almost made it... almost. She caught herself by the ledge with her hands, then got up, giving a thumbs-up.

"Now, try it the other way around!"

Izuku stretched his legs, mainly keep to his legs loose and limber, then ran towards the edge!

JUMP!

Izuku timed his jump, managing to land by the edge. He then walked a few paces to make some room for Momo. The raven-haired girl got into a running start, then needed to time the jump.

JUMP!

"Oh... Oh, shit!"

She managed to land it... slightly better, the upper body landing on the ledge, and pushed herself up.

"Good effort, Momo. But remember, these sorts of exercises take time to master. Let's try once again!"

Momo nodded, but Izuku gave a thumbs-up in response, albeit with a small smile.

Battle Company Agency

"You know, I'm curious though," asked Gunhead. "How did Kiryu get involved in MMA?"

"He well...discovered his talent when I was in middle school," answered Uraraka, though she seemed a bit embarrassed. "My family's... wasn't in the best financial situation at the time, I was getting picked on because of it."

"Wait, does-"

"There was a bully, his name was Uramijo. I don't know why he picked on me, maybe it was my family's situation, but Uramijo just either stole my stuff or mocked my Quirk. However..."

Gunhead was curious about what happened next.

"It was near the end of the day... Uramijo wasn't seen."

"Wait, what?"

"A few minutes later, he was found in the bathroom beaten to a pulp. The next day, whenever Kiryu was around to pick me up, he avoided him like the plague."

"That's easy to make the connection..."

"Well, Kiryu was always protective over me. I just didn't know it was to this extent," Ochako responded. "Heheheheh~. This is embarrassing."

'Considering that you're his only sister, I can see why.'

"However, Uramijo stopped picking on me after that," Ochako said with a bit of relief. "In fact, he transferred after the semester finished."

"Holy... Kiryu sounds terrifying once pushed."

"My parents did find out... they were shocked to find out, but Dad was glad to know that he was looking out for me."

"But...?"

"They needed him to channel that protective streak into something constructive."

"Ah, so they found an MMA gym?"

"Yup. It was called Lions Kickboxing," responded Ochako. "But said he had to move away to Singapore...but he promised to visit! I just didn't expect it to be this way."

"I'll go out on a limb and say he joined the local MMA promotion there."

As soon as he said that, Ochako made the connection right then and there, slapping her face in realization. The Featherweight Belt was the single clue tying this together.

"OH, right! He never mentioned the name."

"It's likely ALPHA-PRIME Championship."

However, there was a singular thought running through the girl's head...

'What the hell type of monsters did he fight for the belt?!'

Kasumi Residence

"Hm... this Stain character is definitely a Nanto Seiken user," stated Kensei in his study. Carmilla and Rouga were seated across from him, listening to the whole thing.

"There are literally more than a hundred branches, us narrowing it down?" Carmilla stated, a bit serious. "That will take hours."

"Well, here's what publicly known about the Hero Killer.

- Known to attack Pro Heroes in alleyways

- Dismembers/Mutiliates Pro Heroes

- 'Erases' Presence

That has to narrow things down."

Rouga and Carmilla both look at each other, having the same thought.

'Izuku's in danger!?'

"It's not Izuku, it's one of his classmates. Here's your hint: Ingenium."

Carmilla's eyes widen, having a look of dreadful realization. "He's related to Ingenium, is he?!"

"... If I didn't know better, it's Mr. Prim and Proper himself, am I right?" responded Rouga, not liking if the answer was yes.

Kensei nodded.

"FUCK! That brat's gonna get himself killed!"

"Let's get searching..."

"It has to be 10 Nanto branches that practice that 'erasing presence' thing," Carmilla responded. "The one annoying thing is that they don't really advertise..."

"That would defeat the purpose of them being assassin's fists," deadpanned Rouga. "In all seriousness though, Izuku may be trained, but this Hero Killer? He's definitely a fuck ton more dangerous."

"Hmm... sounds enough for me," Kensei responds with a grin.

Undisclosed Bar

Shigaraki was covered in a few bandages, complete with stitches at the shoulders, now communicating with Sensei.

"Tomura...what happened?"

"The Hero Killer was an asshole! That recruitment mission was a bust."

"Kurogiri, would you mind explaining?"

Kurogiri could feel the silent rage seep from the TV screen alone. The shadow-using villain tried explaining that the Hero Killer could have been a potential asset to the League's agenda, but-

"You mean... to tell me... that my successor..." Sensei pausing for a moment, inhaling. "...Was almost slaughtered?!"

Bloodgash interjected, "Not only that, but he's far more skilled than he lets on!"

"Tell me, what was this Hero Killer's overall mission? "

"He wanted to purge 'fake Heroes'," Shigaraki responded with air quotes around that term.

"He wouldn't be a good asset... his fanaticism could turn him against us. It would be a matter of when. Not if. "

"I need... to... fucking wreck the Hero Killer!" Shigaraki barked. "He fucked stabbed and almost gutted me!"

"Attack him where it hurts, Tomura."

"Wait... right... attack him where he's holding his so-called crusade," said Shigaraki, realizing how to get under Stain's skin.

"Might I take part in this?" asked Bloodgash.

"In what way?"

"Support. Particularly the explosive type..."

"I think I know a broker who might have the tools for you..."

The merc simply grinned in response.

Kurismo City

By the time night fell, Momo and Izuku were getting the hang of free-running, especially across long distances. There were a few stumbles here and there, but it was minimal at best. Other times, they tripped after the landing.

"Now, we will go back to the agency."

As they were walking back, Momo wondered if Izuku's training sessions with his master included some free-running too, prompting her to ask: "What type-"

"It was strenuous physical training," Izuku answered, vaguely.

"That involved-"

"Distance running, a bit of climbing, and some sparring," Izuku responded, not wanting to expose more.

Momo took the hint that Izuku, though he accepted apology [partially], was still guarded.

'He's very guarded about the details of his master,' Edgeshot thought as he listened in. 'However, there's the million-yen question, Midoriya. Who exactly is your master?'

Manual Agency

Iida has just finished showering, trying to wash the stress going through his head... Stain's brutal methods... the inability to avenge his brother... Uraraka's pleading... all of it wasn't going away any time soon.

As soon as he got dressed...

"Iida, well, got some important news."

Iida turned his head around, wondering what it is.

"Looks like the Heroics Commission made a request, a BIG one."

"It's about Stain, is it?"

"Correct. It's a big request for a makeshift team. One to capture Stain and to improve morale."

'How many will that team have? 20? 30?'

"I only wish that it will be sufficient to apprehend the Hero Killer."

"It's the CCTV footage that has you riled up, does it?"

Iida didn't want to admit it, but Manual could tell. Even he was disturbed by how casually Stain took Mister Blaster out, slicing him into multiple pieces was just the cherry on top.

"That's part of the reason why you'll still be patrolling with me, you're still too green on handle someone like the Hero Killer," Manual responded in a matter-of-fact tone. "If it makes you feel better, here's a confirmed list for who's been requested."

Approved Heroes for Hosu City:

- Flame Hero: Endeavor

- Rabbit Hero: Mirko

- Ninja Hero: Edgeshot

- Tracker Hero: Native

- Battle Hero: Gunhead

- Human Fly

"It's not even close to 10..."

"If it's any consolation, the list's not complete yet."

Iida sighed, a mix of relief and exasperation.

Hosu City Rooftops

Stain was surveying the area, mainly for prey, but to his surprise? Heroes actually doing their jobs: patrolling routes, helping older people get home at a reasonable time, checking the corners, and even being taking extra time to do all of this.

'A few fakers will take their place, that's for sure...'

As he was traversing from rooftop to rooftop, he remembered how his now-deceased master trained him, the rooftop free-running being the tip of the iceberg and boy, it was difficult. It made the harsh training all the more worth it.

All those styles beat into him once he dropped out of high school.

"Kagehama was always a soldier through and through. I can respect that..." Stain said to himself as keep jumping from rooftop to rooftop. "However, he didn't look at the bigger picture..."

Little did he know, things were going to get very interesting the next night...

Author's Notes: Yes, it's a shorter chapter. But it's like the calm before the storm. ALPHA-PRIME Championship is a reference to the real-life MMA promotion ONE Championship.

Yes, Kiryu is basically Mokichi Robinson to a degree.
