Chapter 43
"Love?" She heard Finn shout from downstairs.
"Up here!" She managed turning her head slightly.
"Sorry I missed dinner love, are you in bed already?" Finn asked coming into the bedroom. She'd worked from home that day, they'd be going to Australia tomorrow but she had wanted the day to pack while still keeping on top of emails.
"Kind of." Rory groaned face down diagonally across the bed.
"What's wrong?" Finn asked sitting down on the bed next to her.
"I pulled my back putting the suitcases in the car." Rory said, her back twinging painfully as she turned her head towards him.
"How bad is it? Should I take you to the ER?" Finn asked worriedly.
"No, it's fine as long as I stay perfectly still." Rory grumbled.
"Want me to run you a bath?" Finn asked gently.
"Will you have one with me and rub my back?" Rory asked hopefully, feeling a bit bad, he'd had a long day as well.
"That is an offer I'm not turning down." Finn chuckled. "Be right back love."
A few minutes later and Rory was laid with her back against Finn's chest, the water level dangerously high but she felt better.
"Maybe next time leave the heavy lifting to me hey love?" Finn asked, his chin tickling her ear.
"That's probably a good idea." Rory smiled. "I didn't get much done today, Mia kept popping round with last minute things she wanted or needed. And I looked after the boys while she went to buy different shoes."
"I think the boss will understand." Finn chuckled making the water ripple dangerously.
"I hope so." Rory bit her lip.
"His daughter is getting married and you're her maid of honour, he'll be fine." Finn reassured her his hands drifting down from her arms to the small of her back.
Rory's head fell forward and she moaned as his hands started working out the kinks in her back.
"Love, you might need to stop that." Finn laughed and she could feel the effect it was having on him. But she couldn't help it. It just felt so good.
"Please don't stop." Rory whimpered as his hands stilled.
"You're driving me mad here love." Finn kissed her shoulder as he started massaging her back again.
Again, it wasn't long before she started moaning. But he was really, really good at giving massages.
"Okay, that's it." Finn said standing up and lifting her with him. He carried her, both of them soaking wet, to the bed where he continued to make her moan, groan and scream for hours after.
/\\\/\\\
"We're going to need a bigger plane at this rate." Finn chuckled helping Rory into her seat, her back had still been hurting her that morning. Though Finn thought after their night it wasn't all that surprising.
"Maybe some of us will just have to fly commercial." Rory said.
"Commercial, with the common folk? How dare you." Finn chuckled.
There was Luke and Lorelai with the twins on their knees. Janice and Phineas with Amy in Janice's arms.
Colin was holding Ben and Mia was sat with Lee, who warranted his own seat now. Josh had taken Sophia weeks ago to visit her mom.
Rory and he were blissfully child free.
"Are you okay Rory?" Luke asked quietly.
"Just a bad back." Rory reassured her stepdad.
"How did you do that hon?" Lorelai asked her daughter.
"She was being a strong independent woman. Who maybe next time will wait for her handsome fiancé." Finn chuckled.
"I put the suitcases in the car while Finn was still at work." Rory explained ignoring Finn, rudely, he thought.
"Yeah, next time maybe wait for Aus to do it." Lorelai chuckled.
"Yeah." Rory yawned and winced as she shifted in her seat.
"Maybe you should see a doctor. Can we see a doctor in Australia? Do you need like special Australian insurance? Have we even got travellers insurance? Is that a thing? I never thought I'd be wishing my dad was here before. He'd know. Maybe I can ring him." Lorelai rattled off her eyes watching Rory with worry though.
"We can sort a doctor if she needs one Mother Dearest, don't worry." Finn said taking Rory's hand. He never worried about medical insurance when travelling to his mother country, after all he was a citizen of both there and the US. However, if his kitten needed to see a doctor, he would sort it. No matter the cost. He wasn't going to mention that to his Shelia though as she'd worry about costs and if she had enough money, which was frankly ridiculous.
"I'll be fine, I'll sleep and wake up feeling better." Rory insisted.
After take-off Finn helped her recline the chair and got her a pillow and a blanket. Rory fell asleep quickly.
Finn watched Rory wince in her sleep every time she shifted slightly. He sighed, she was worse than she'd let on, and he probably hadn't helped much last night, he'd had her legs up, twisted, bent backwards and forwards. She'd not complained just begged for more. He'd been an idiot in Mia's words.
"Hey, dad?" Finn whispered loudly hoping not to wake any of the sleeping children or his angel.
His dad looked at him, passed Amy to Janice and got up.
"What's up son?" Phineas asked.
"Can we sort a doctor when we land? Is that an option or would I have to call and make an appointment?" Finn asked.
"I can have one waiting. What's wrong, are you sick?" His dad asked seriously, his hand shooting out feeling his forehead. Finn noticed his dad's nails were green today.
"I'm fine, it's my Shelia. She's got a bad back, I think it's worse than she's letting on." Finn said watching as once again Rory frowned in her sleep.
"I'll sort it. We'll have a doctor waiting for when we land." His dad promised gripping his shoulder.
"Thank you." Lorelai said quietly, she'd apparently been listening to the conversation. Not that he was surprised.
/\\\/\\\
"You're going to marry me. I'm very luckily." Rory whispered happily to Finn.
They'd seen the doctor who'd prescribed pain meds and a few days' rest. The pain medication had a rather amusing side effect though. Her brain to mouth filter was fully in the off position. They'd had to go to their room and stay there after lunch, she'd told everyone way too much and would be mortified when she finally sobered up.
"I'm the lucky one love." Finn said honestly leaning on his elbow. His dad or someone should have dinner sent to them soon.
"Nope. I am. Very luckily. Especially when you do that thing with your tongue... very lucky." Rory smiled absently.
"I'll remember that." Finn laughed.
"Yes, and we're going to do the wedding." Rory smiled. "In Spring, not as good as winter but I want you happy."
Finn frowned. He knew she had talked about a winter wedding but he hadn't realised that it was really what she had wanted, he thought they were just spit balling.
"Oh, no you're unhappy? We can do summer instead if you want? I just want you to have the wedding you want. I get you to marry me and that's all that matters." Rory said with a small giggle.
"Do you really want a winter wedding love?" Finn asked feeling a little bad about asking her now, but then he could also get a real answer out of her now.
"Yes, but then you'd be cold. And then you wouldn't be happy. It's a shame we can't do what Lane did and have two weddings. One in the heat for you and the snow for me, but that's impossible because it's not hot and cold at the same time." Rory sighed. "But we have to have the obstacle course."
Finn smiled. She was a genius even when she was stoned.
/\\\/\\\
"You look beautiful." Rory gushed helping Mia pull her train straight.
"I feel it." Mia blushed happily. "I can't believe that I'm going to be Mrs McCrea in two hours."
"I know. You're all grown up." Rory laughed.
"Did you know Colin's dad's here, my mom too. Good luck with that by the way. She's furious that you and Finn are engaged." Mia said happily, a little too happily Rory thought.
"Oh well, if it gets too bad, I'll take some of those painkillers." Rory giggled. She'd come off them days ago, her back feeling much better but she still hadn't lived down her loose mouth.
"Oh god, I will pay you to do that. Please. It can be my wedding present." Mia said.
"You already got a wedding present." Rory giggled. Finn and Rory were taking Ben and Lee for two weeks so that Colin and Mia could have a proper honeymoon. Luckily, they'd still be in Australia for those two weeks, so they'd have the whole family to help. They were also chipping in for the honeymoon with Phineas and Josh.
"And I still haven't thanked you enough for that." Mia said.
"You put me in a flattering dress. That's thanks enough." Rory said, the bridesmaids were in pretty light blue dresses that came up just above knee.
"The staff here are morons, ten minutes for a glass of water with ice." Paris barked coming back into the room where they were all getting ready. She was the other bridesmaid.
"Thank you, Paris." Mia said reaching for the water.
"Have you both got sunscreen on? No-one needs melanoma." Paris asked pulling out factor fifty.
"We have but that was a while ago, let's put some more on." Mia said taking the bottle.
"I also snagged us some champagne." Paris said pulling a bottle out of nowhere.
"Oh goodie." Rory grinned.
/\\\/\\\
Rory and Finn danced on the makeshift dancefloor at the wedding reception of the new Mr and Mrs McCrea. It had been a beautiful wedding, there were flowers everywhere, the gentle sounds of crashing waves and now a beautiful sunset.
"This is amazing." Rory said, her head on his shoulder as she looked out over the sea which now looked like it was being set on fire.
"It is." Finn agreed.
"Can I cut in?" Colin asked tapping Rory on the shoulder.
"Of course." Finn smiled stepping back. Colin instantly grabbed Finn's arm and started a waltz.
Rory laughed till Mia came and tapped her on the shoulder. Together Mia and Rory waltzed. Or Mia did and Rory followed badly.
"You're a terrible dancer Ror." Mia giggled.
"And you are a beautiful bride Mrs McCrea despite your ugly words." Rory laughed with her best friend.
Rory laughed as Jan and her mom soon joined them on the dance floor, swiftly followed by Robert and Lanny.
Rory spent the night laughing, dancing, drinking and eating. It had been a perfect night.
"Ready for bed my lady?" Finn asked as the night ended.
"That was surprisingly romantic Mr Morgan." Rory smiled.
"That might be because I'm wasted love." Finn grinned.
"Charlie Sheen wasted?" Rory asked.
"Not quite that bad kitten. But there are two of you." Finn chuckled.
/\\\/\\\
Finn was jolted awake by an eat splitting scream. He jumped up and ran to the bathroom where Rory apparently was.
"Love!?" Finn shouted opening the door which she thankfully hadn't locked.
Rory was stood, her back to the wall, her face white and her hands shaking.
"Rory? What is it?" Finn asked urgently, he'd never seen her like this before and his heart started racing.
Rory pointed at the wall behind Finn.
He turned to see a huntsman. A huge one. Almost as big as the one he'd seen in the Bush. He knew she had a slight case of arachnophobia but this was pure terror.
"Alright love. Come on. Out of here, come past me. Go get some breakfast. I'll sort this." Finn said gently, stretching out his hand for her. Shaking she took it and he pulled her from the en-suite. "Go on now. Go get some breakfast." Finn insisted, she did not want to watch this.
Huntsmen were bastards to get rid of. When you tried moving them, they jumped at you and a bite from them while not deadly hurt like a bitch.
"Don't hurt him." Rory called shakily.
"I won't." Finn promised with his fingers crossed. He'd rather not, this creature deserved to live, but if it went to bite him all bets were off.
"I was talking to the tarantula." Rory said. He didn't think she was joking. He also wasn't going to correct her about huntsmen versus tarantulas. He was going to have a hard enough time getting her to come back to Australia as it was after this.
/\\\/\\\
"That's insane." Rory said bluntly. Finn and her were spending their day off together wedding planning.
"Just insane enough to work?" Finn asked hopefully.
"No, I think this is just insane. And it's going to cost... I don't even know how much." Rory said pulling out a calculator to try and work it out.
"We're rich." Finn said easily taking a sip of his beer.
"But this... there'd be the cost of getting everyone to travel and... and Kirk!" Rory protested.
"But this way you get your winter wedding, I get my summer wedding and an obstacle course. Kind of." Finn said, he'd had this idea back in Australia curtesy of his angel and it hadn't gone away.
"It's still insane." Rory said.
"So, you don't want to do it then?" Finn asked sounding disappointed.
"I didn't say that..." Rory rolled her eyes and took his beer, having a sip before passing it back.
"So two weddings?" Finn asked excitedly.
"Two weddings." Rory smiled at him.
Pepper barked at their door and Finn got up to let him in. The dog stayed at the McCrea household most of the time but he came to their backdoor when he wanted time out from tiny children chasing him round or pulling his tail.
Rory text Mia to let her know that Pepper was there so she didn't worry.
"Who would have Pepper?" Rory asked stroking the dog gently. "Everyone we know would be there."
"Erm... what about... we could put him in a kennel for a couple of days? A nice one of course. Not one where everything's all gross." Finn frowned obviously unhappy with the idea.
"What about a dog sitter?" Rory suggested.
"I guess..." Finn shrugged. "We've got months to find someone."
/\\\/\\\
Rory's legs were shaking. Her heart was beating but she couldn't stop smiling. In a few minutes she would be walking up the aisle. And to top it all off it had snowed for the first time this season last night. She had the snow she had wished for. It was fate. All good things happened in the snow.
Rory was wearing a fitted white dress with lace and pearls, a train, a tiara from her Grandma and a fur stole. She felt like a bride.
The music started and Mia strode down the aisle first. Rory had chosen deep blue, long dresses for her bridesmaids, with fur shrugs to keep them warm. Paris followed Mia and Lane walked last. Rory's three closest friends.
The town square was full and all eyes were on Rory as her mom walked by her side.
Rory looked at the alter and almost faltered as her eyes landed on Finn. He was wearing a top hat. She smiled unable to stop, he was wearing a top hat, she had said she thought he'd look sexy in one, she was right. His eyes sparkled and watered slightly as he focused on her, his beautiful smile lighting his face as she arrived next to him.
"Who gives this woman to be married today?" The Reverend Skinner asked from inside the Gazebo which was covered in twinkling lights.
"She gives herself. But she has our support." Her mom said with tears already spilling out of her eyes. Rory could feel her eyes watering as well as her mom hugged her before placing Rory's hand in Finn's.
Rory couldn't look away from Finn, her smile never faltering as they pledged themselves to each other as man and wife.
It sounded like a bomb had gone off, so loud were the cheers, whistles and applause as they shared their first kiss.
Confetti mixed with snow as they turned and faced their guests.
"If everyone would like to join us in Australia for the reception, you'll find your flight tickets on your seats. We'll see you in sixteen hours!" Finn announced to laughter and applause. Rory had made him put it in the invites so people were actually ready rather than surprising people as he had wanted to do.
/\\\/\\\
Rory waited for Finn to come home. The house blissfully quiet for once. Mia and Colin had taken Lee, Ben and their newest addition Charlie, the cutest little ginger haired boy you ever saw away for the weekend. So, Rory and Finn would be spending their second wedding anniversary tomorrow in blissful peace.
Rory smiled as it started snowing. She wished Finn would hurry up already, she'd been waiting hours for this.
Finn was supposed to have had the day off, even though it was Friday, with her but an emergency had cropped up so he went to the office. For an hour max. Four hours ago. He'd promised her he was on the way back thirty minutes ago so he should be there any minute.
"Love?" Finn shouted as he came in.
"Up here!" Rory called back.
"Oh, are we starting the celebrations early? Fantastic!" Finn shouted and she heard him run up the stairs. "Oh, you're dressed, how disappointing."
Rory smiled at him and held out the box she was sitting next to.
"What?" He frowned at her.
"I thought you would want to be here with me while I took it." Rory explained with a grin. The snow was here.
"You're not...?" Finn asked hesitantly.
"I don't know for sure." Rory said.
"For the love of God go pee already woman!" Finn pushed her towards their bathroom a smile gracing his face.
They'd stopped their birth control months ago, if something happened it happened, they both said. If not then they carried on living their lives till the fullest. But now, it was snowing and Rory was two weeks late. Which she hadn't realised till that morning.
"Ten minutes on the clock." Rory said sitting on the bed next to Finn and taking his hand.
"Are you working your snow witch powers again?" Finn asked with a grin.
"It's folded up waiting. But don't look I don't want to jinx it." Rory said pointing to the piece of paper on her bedside table.
It had become a habit, a running joke now. The first snow Rory wrote down a prediction for the day. She'd never yet been wrong. It always freaked Finn out and she loved it.
"That's the time love." Finn said standing with her as her phone beeped at them. His hand was tight in hers.
Rory picked the test up and passed it to Finn.
"Yes!" Finn yelled picking her up and swinging her round, tears leaking from his eyes. Rory laughed with him, her arms tight around his neck as she buried her face in his shoulder.
"We're having a baby." Rory grinned at her husband as he set her down.
"Yes, we are." Finn said softly his hand resting gently on top of her still flat stomach.
The note of the bedside table forgotten for now.
We're pregnant.
/\\\/\\\
"You're sure?" Finn asked again.
"Yes. I'm sure." The obgyn smiled at them. "Look, just here is baby A and there is baby B." She pointed out there two separate babies. "You're ten weeks and everything looks great. We have two strong heartbeats and they're a good size."
Twins, they were having twins. Just like her mom had. Well not just like, they were having identical twins.
Finn couldn't... Two babies... that was a lot. He remembered helping Rory with Tory and Will when they were babies. It had been rough and that had only been one night at a time. This was going to be... hard... and amazing. Finn didn't think he could possibly be happier.
"Do you know if their boys or girls?" Finn asked.
"Not yet. It'll be a few more weeks till we can find out for sure." The woman said.
Finn felt Rory grab his hand and squeeze, he looked to see her staring at the monitor, a smile on her face as tears dripped down it.
/\\\/\\\
Finn woke up, it was still dark and pretty cold he rolled over only to see an empty bed. A light was leaking out under the door to their bathroom though.
Finn heard Rory heaving again and with a sigh got up. She was supposed to wake him when she was being sick, so he could do the husbandly thing and hold her hair back, she never did though and for the past two weeks he'd woke to found her throwing up.
"Go back to bed." She said wearily from the floor even as she heaved again.
Finn knelt by her side and held her hair with one hand, he rubbed her back with the other.
"Only one of us needs to lose sleep honey, go back to..." Rory heaved once more.
"No. We talked about this. I can't do much but I can do this." He said softly.
When she eventually finished, he helped her up. She was only three months pregnant but she already had a small but noticeable bump. Luckily, they were at the stage where they could tell people now. Of course their family already knew. There was no way of hiding it considering how often Rory was sick. Morning sickness was apparently very badly named. Rory had all day sickness. He was starting to worry that she wasn't actually getting any benefit from anything she was eating.
"You want crackers angel?" Finn asked.
"No, just some more sleep. We've got to be up in an hour." Rory groaned as she climbed back into bed.
"Take the day off, have a day in bed. Sleep, eat, rest." Finn said hopefully.
"No, I can work." Rory sighed sleeping almost instantly a moment later.
Finn waited till she was deeply asleep before turning both of their alarms off. He sent a message to his dad saying they would both be working from home that day, letting him know about Rory's sickness so his dad didn't think they were slacking.
/\\\/\\\
Rory sat uncomfortably in her chair at the Board Meeting. It was boring and her back was killing her. She'd been coming to these meetings at the Hayden group for almost four years now and she still felt like a fish out of water in them. Luckily all that was asked of her was that she voted when needed and pointed out any problems or mistakes she saw. She normally asked Colin to check any literature she got for her.
Rory shifted again as one of the twins kicked her in the ribs. It was painful.
"You alright kiddo?" Her dad whispered in her ear.
Rory breathed as she felt her stomach tighten.
"I'm going to have to go." Rory whispered back.
"Alright. Why?" Her dad asked both of them ignoring the disapproving looks they were getting from the other board members.
"I'm pretty sure I'm in labour." Rory said clutching the table as her stomach tightened again.
"Oh crap!" Her dad said standing up and holding out his hand to her.
"Mr Hayden!" The man who had been speaking spluttered.
"Sorry Randall but Mrs Morgan here is having her babies. So... yeah. Oh crap." Her dad said smoothly making her chuckle.
"Can you call Finn? And maybe give me a ride to the hospital. I'm pretty sure I don't want to drive. Oh, and call mom?" Rory asked as they left the room.
"Yeah, sure, of course kiddo." Her dad said sounding like he was on the verge of a freak out.
"Actually, you call mom, I'll call Finn." Rory said as they waited for the elevator.
She pulled out her phone and pressed speed dial.
"Hey." Finn said absently down the phone. "I've got two minutes before I'm in my meeting. Are you still craving chips?"
"Finn, I think the babies are..." She stopped speaking to breath as once more her stomach tightened, it was more painful this time.
"Kitten? Love? Rory!" She heard Finn yelling but she was still breathing. Damn it hurt.
"Finn?" She heard her dad say and felt him taking the phone off her. "Yes, she's in labour. Or she's doing a really great job of acting to get out of the board meeting. Yes, I am joking. No. I don't know I'll ask. Kiddo do you have your hospital bag in your car?"
Rory nodded not trusting herself to talk just yet.
"Yes, she has. I'll grab it. We'll meet you there. I've rang her. Alright, see you soon. I've got her don't worry." Her dad said hanging up. "Finns meeting us there kid."
"Okay." Rory smiled following her dad to his car. She passed him her car keys as she tried to get in. It hurt. A lot. "Bags in the trunk."
/\\\/\\\
Rory and Finn held their new babies, Rory still had matted hair and was pretty sure she stank but she couldn't have cared less. Her babies were here, their babies were here. After eleven gruelling hours where she had honestly hated Finn they were finally, safely here.
A soft gentle knock came from the door.
"Come in." Rory said softly, smiling as her mom's head poked round the door.
"Oh." Her mom said tears in her eyes as she came into the room. "They're beautiful."
"You can't even see them from there." Rory laughed.
"They're my grand babies, how can they not be. I mean have you seen these genes." Her mom laughed.
"We'd like to introduce you to Lorelai Amelia Morgan and Finley Janice Morgan." Finn said gently holding out Finley for her mom to take.
/\\\/\\\
"Girls!" Rory yelled along the beach as her two oldest children chased her two youngest, screams following them. "Come on back here!"
"Ten years this year love. What do you want to do for it?" Finn asked, his arm wrapped round her shoulder.
Mia, Colin and their four boys trailed behind them along the Australian beach they visited yearly with the rest of their now very large family. They'd had to splash out on another jet. It was a good job the business had gone from strength to strength.
"Sleep?" Rory suggested with a laugh. With two eight-year-olds and two four-year-olds in the house sleep was a rare commodity.
"Mia and Colin are having the girls so we could sleep or we could go back to York? I promised you the surf and turf." Finn suggested.
"That sounds nice. As long as one of the days can be spent in bed." Rory smiled up at her husband.
"You want to spend one of our precious days alone sleeping?" Finn asked.
"I said in bed; I didn't specify sleeping." Rory laughed.
"Done and done. Hey do you think your mom would take the girls for the weekend now so we don't have to wait four months for a day together?" Finn asked.
"After last time when Lucy and Emily tried to give the house a makeover?" Rory asked looking at Finn with raised eyebrows.
"Maybe dad and Janice will then?" Finn clutched at straws.
"Maybe." Rory smiled up at him truly happy. The sun was setting, they were on a beach, heading back to their own house on the beach in Australia like they'd talked about all those years ago.
Life was good.
Life was as close to perfect as it could get.
