Chapter 43: Painful Backstories

Hitoshi watched Izuku warily as the green and purple haired teen shifted around on his bed. This was extremely abnormal for him.

"Not here," Izuku finally whispered; but he didn't directly look at him, and that worried the violet eyed teen.

"Aw don't you want to introduce me, Zuzu," the yellow bunny asked creepily as he laid over his friend's legs.

"Get off me you stupid virus," Izuku said with an annoyed huff.

"Is that any way to thank the person who saved your life," the rabbit asked silkily, it's grin sharpening.

Izuku just gave him a blank stare.

The rabbit huffed in irritation and turned to look at Izuku fully once again.

"You're just like Willy," the yellow rabbit whined with a pout. "So rude! Anyways, Zuzu, I've gotta split. I was in the middle of something."

Suddenly Izuku paled and he became really nervous.

"You're leaving," he asked, voice weak. "Now?! So soon?!"

"Aw, you're already missing me~," the bunny said as he disappeared in a weird faded that resembled a computer glitching and then reappeared in front of Izuku's face as he floated in the air. "So cute~!"

Izuku blushed a furious red and smacked the rabbit upside the head.

"I'm not cute," the teen protested. "And, I'm more worried about the chaos you're causing."

The yellow rabbit laughed insanely and his fuchsia eyes sparkled with a gleam of madness that put Hitoshi on edge.

Just who was this man?! And, how did Izuku know him?!

"I still say you're gonna miss me," the rabbit said with a mocking tease. "Bye bye, Zuzu!"

With that he gave Izuku a mocking pat on the head and winked at Hitoshi before he disappeared.

Izuku groaned and muttered several expletives in every language he knew.

"You're explaining this the moment we get home," Hitoshi said with a hard stare and a firm tone.

Izuku nodded in resigned agreement; knowing that he wouldn't be able to get out of it.

The two were in the hospital for the next three days, and tension was rife in the room. Hitoshi always seemed to be bursting with questions, and Izuku's refusal to answer them until they got home was frustrating him. The purple and red haired teen understood the need for privacy, but this man seemed really dangerous. And, not in the same way that William was dangerous. Hell, even Spring was a different kind of dangerous!

What the hell did Izuku get himself into?!

What was even worse was that Izuku seemed to be constantly on edge. Even William was more guarded than usual. Spring was even refusing to talk to William at the moment.

Hitoshi was becoming increasingly worried for his friends. It didn't matter how many times Izuku and William claimed that everything was fine and that nothing was wrong; Spring's silence was telling.

Something seriously bad had happened, and that strange man was at the center of it.

When they finally got home, Hitoshi grabbed Izuku's wrist and dragged him into their workshop ignoring Inko's protests. Their workshop was the most private room in their apartment and William rigged it so it couldn't be bugged.

"Explain," Hitoshi demanded flatly.

Izuku sighed and ran a hand through his hair in nervousness.

Hitoshi softened slightly at this rare show of nerves from his friend.

"Zuku," he said, tone more gentle. "You three are worrying me. What's going on?"

Izuku groaned and sat heavily on a work bench, head on his arms.

"Let me," William said, and Izuku gladly gave up control.

Hitoshi was startled—though he felt he shouldn't be after all the time he spent around the three—when William took control and transformed into his own form.

"William," Hitoshi asked confused.

"It's my story," the dual haired man explained with a weary sigh. "Let me explain."

Hitoshi nodded and sat on a bench opposite William.

"I truthfully don't know where the whole story started," William said bitterly as memories started to speed through his mind. "Was it my parents and my non existent relationship with them? Was it my meeting Henry—who I once considered my first true friend?"

William laughed a painful, almost broken laugh that broke Hitoshi's heart.

"I guess it doesn't really matter, does it," William said sadly as he leaned his head against his palm. "Hell, let's just start with Henry..."

"But, what does this have to do with that bunny," Hitoshi asked confused, but he felt extremely guilty for interrupting what must have been a painful story.

"Everything," William said with a stiff shrug; pain burning in his eyes. "Anyways, Henry and I met at college. We weren't instantly friends like you and the brat. You see, I was the weird kid, a loner. It wasn't odd for people to spread nasty rumors about me. I was too quiet, my words were always too sharp. I had dyed my hair purple since high school and I always wore dark clothing. My emotions were always pretty controlled, and I normally looked bored. People thought I was creepy."

Hitoshi nodded and winced in understanding.

"I never tried to stand out, but I never tried to not stand out," William said as he ran a hand through his long hair. "I just didn't care. Henry, bless him, was the opposite. He did his best to blend into the back ground. He sculpted himself to be unassuming. However, he watched everything. That's what caught my attention."

"How so," Hitoshi asked as he cocked his head in his curiosity.

"He tried to be normal when he wasn't," William said with a smirk. "We were in the same class a couple times a week and I watched him. Like me, he sat where he could see everyone and all the exits. He did just enough to get an A, but nothing too note worthy. I watched him pretend to write notes while he was really sketching multiple different projects."

"Kinda like me and Zuku," Hitoshi asked.

"Except we're hiding Spring and my existence," William said. "Henry was just hiding."

Hitoshi hummed in confusion.

"I watched him for about a month, and Henry got progressively more paranoid," William said with a nostalgic smirk. "It all came to it's head when we were paired for a project. You see, Hen wasn't to thrilled to work with me..."

William chuckled at that.

"What happened," Hitoshi asked.

"I invited him to my apartment," William said. "We both lived off campus. He lived with his parents and I refused to live in the dorms or with my abusive and negligent parents. Anyways, I ended up spiking his drink and tricking him into doing a couple IQ tests."

William smirked smugly at this admittance while Hitoshi chuckled along with Izuku. That was just so William.

"Of course, Henry was completely ticked off, but I confirmed my theory," William said. "Henry was brilliant. It took me another two months to get him to forgive me, but when he did, I showed him some of my own sketches. After that, we ended up talking almost everyday until we became friends..."

"That's cool and all," Hitoshi said. "But, how is this important?"

"I'm getting there," William said. "it was the middle of our sophomore year. Hen and I were inseparable at this point. Hell, we probable were co-dependent. He even moved into an apartment with me. We were at a coffee shop and he was acting strange. Kinda nervous. He kept flicking his coffee lid and glancing at me when he thought I wasn't looking. To be honest, I was growing frustrated. He had been acting off for about a week at this point. Finally, I just asked him what was wrong, and to my confusion he asked me about my plans after college. I told him that I didn't have any plans yet, and he told me that he had something to show me. That was the night Freddy's was born."

"Freddy's," Hitoshi asked completely confused.

"Freddy's was our restaurant chain," William explained, and recognition lit up in Hitoshi's eyes. "It started with Fredbear's dinner, then we added multiple Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria's. We even had a sister location called Circus Baby's Pizza and Rentals."

"I've never heard of them," Hitoshi mumbled.

"I'm not to surprised," William said with an amused chuckle. "Remember, I lived before the dawn of quirks.

Hitoshi blushed in embarrassment and William chuckled even harder.

It was hard to remember that William lived before quirks even existed. William just seemed so at ease in this time period.

"So, how does Freddy's factor into this," Hitoshi asked and William's face darkened.

"It's where everything went down hill," William said. "We spent the rest of college raising money to build our restaurant and our first animatronics. I actually went back to underground fighting right—much to Henry's protest—to help raise money. I invested my winnings in stocks, I created a small smuggling ring at school. We tutored students for cash. Henry babysat and mowed lawns. I built and repaired electronics as well as other things. Basically, almost everything we could do to get money. We were lucky we didn't have to study much to pass classes..."

"Wow," Hitoshi said with wide eyes.

"It was worth it, at the time, though," William said in a low mutter. "Anyways, two years after college, we finally had our first restaurant built. We both also had families..."

William trailed off then, and his face was clouded by a deep, heart wrenching grief. Hitoshi stayed quiet and gave William a moment to think.

"When my youngest, Chris, was five, our restaurant was extremely popular," William continued. "We were able to expand quite a bit. We already had Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria opened and were in the process of opening Circus Baby's. On Chris' sixth birthday, we decided to have it at Freddy's Pizzeria. I sadly had to work, and Clara-my wife...Clara was...distant...with the kids. Chris didn't want to go..."

"Why not," Hitoshi asked, confused. "It was his birthday, right?"

"Yes, but he was scared of the animatronics," William said sighing sadly. "Mikey, my eldest, always picked on him and scared him wearing his Foxy mask."

"Foxy," Hitoshi asked, lost. "And, Mike bullied him?"

"Our fox animatronic," William said. "And, yes. I always scolded him when I caught him doing it. I even grounded him, but he wouldn't stop. On Chris' birthday, Michael actually pranked him...and it went wrong."

"What happened," Hitoshi asked when William started to cry.

"Mike and his friends put Chris' head into Fredbear's mouth," William chocked out. "Fredbear was having mechanical issues with the springlocks in his jaw... I told Henry about it. Fredbear was supposed to be fixed."

"Oh hell," Hitoshi muttered when he realized what happened, but William didn't hear him; he was too lost in his grief.

"Chris' head was crushed," William sobbed. "He lost his frontal lobe and he was in a coma until he died!"

"William," Hitoshi whispered heartsick.

"Lizzy was next," William said, and Hitoshi felt sick. "She ended up going missing one day when I took her to work. Clara wanted to go out with her friends, Michael was a mess after Chris died, and we didn't have anyone one else to watch her. Henry pulled me into a mandatory meeting. The people at work who I asked to watch her for thirty minutes lost track of her, and then she...disappeared..."

Hitoshi teared up, and William was bent over on the work bench chocking back sobs. His back trembling from the effort.

"At this point, I was a mess," William admitted. "I started drinking and I couldn't help blaming Henry, so I distanced myself from him. Soon, Clara and I started fighting. She blame me, you see. One day, we fought and she stormed out. She ended up dying in a car crash. That was also the day I found out she was cheating on me."

"You don't have to continue," Hitoshi said as tears ran down his face.

"Yes, I do," William said, voice rough. "Scott, a friend of mine at work, but newbies ended up calling him "Phone Guy" because he recorded messages they received by phone, ended up becoming my new best friend. He was the only one I could talk to and feel normal around. He was the one that started me on game testing..."

"Game testing," Hitoshi asked.

"Yeah," William said. "Our investors were interested in basing a game around our animatronics. Anyways, that's when I met him."

"Him," Hitoshi asked when William was silent too long.

"Glitchtrap," William growled.
