Chapter 45 – Reriokawa
Luke got outside the Senate Hospital and saw Han and Chewie, sitting on a bench. Luke knew his friends were devastated as well. He knew they loved Ines. In a way if he knew how to save her, it was thanks to them, and because of that he was able to know what the Force kept telling him.
"Han! Chewie!" Luke called him
Han looked up and seeing Luke, he and Chewie stood up immediately
"Luke. What happened?"
"I don't have time. I need to go to the lowers levels of the city, right now" he said as he started to walk. Han and Chewie looked at each other and decided to followed him
"What are you going to do there?" Han asked him as they were heading to the those parts of the Coruscant.
"The force kept telling me about my home planet, since we arrived at the medical care and I didn't understand what it meant by that. Until now. It was all thanks to you my friends" Luke said patting Han back but never stopped walking in a hurry.
"About us?" Han looked at Chewie who growled, also not understanding what Luke meant. "Luke, can you explain to us what the hell is going on?"
"I know how to save my wife and our baby"
"And the answer is in that part of the city?"
"Remember when we went there and I saw that herb from Tatooine?" Luke asked him
Han remembered that, but he didn't fixed the herb name, since it had such a strange name.
"That thing with weird name: Rokiawa something"
"Reriokawa" Luke told him
"Yeah that thing" Han nod.
"Remember what I told you what it can do?"
Han tried to remember that day weeks ago when he, Chewie and Luke went to those lowers parts and he remember Luke talking about some herb, that killed parasites. Han eyes wide and a smiled appear
"It kill all type of dangerous parasites."
Luke nod.
"It will save Ines and all thanks to you that asked me to go with you that day"
They arrived at those parts and some parts were silence, it was almost 5 in the morning, but Luke knew where he found that herb. Once they arrived, he knock on the door. He didn't like the fact to wake up anyone at that time of day, but for Ines he had too.
He knocked again, hoping the Lady would be there.
After a few minutes they heard some noise inside, and the door opened and the same old lady that he remembered the other day appeared. Her hair tied in a bun covered with a net, closing the robe.
"What's wrong? What do you want at this time of the morning?"
"I'm so sorry to wake you up, ma'am, but it is a question of life or death. My name is Luke Skywalker, and I don't know if you remember me, or us, but we were here weeks ago, and I saw on your stand, an herb, from my planet Tatooine: Reriokawa."
"I remember you, yes. But can't you come later on, child?"
Han was getting frustrated
"Listen Lady, we need that herb" Han started but Luke stopped him
"Han, please. Let me talk" Luke looked at him and then looked back to the old Lady "I'm sorry to come here, without warning, so earlier, but I just got married" he said showing his wedding ring "Me and my wife are going to have a baby. She is 4 ½ months pregnant, and she got some dangerous parasite that it is destroying her lungs. She only have 1 ½ hour. She is dying. I don't have any credits right now, but I promise I will bring to you. But I need that herb. I know it will save her. Please"
Luke begged to the old lady, with his eyes filled with tears, hoping she would see his pain.
"What did you say was your name, son?"
"Luke Skywalker" he repeated.
The old Lady looked at him and all of the sudden, got inside and close the door at them
"Wait" he tried to call her but in the end he just sighed, looking down. He knew that in those parts of the city, many of them were not big fans of him.
Han got mad and even Chewie growled in anger.
"That's it. We don't have time for this" Han said "Chewie just bust this door"
Chewie nod and was about to do that when Luke put himself in front of the door
"Chewie don't" he said raising his arms and shook his head towards the Wookie.
"What do you mean don't." Han asked him not believing what was happening "Luke, that woman has the herb that can save Ines and your son. And you will do nothing?"
"No we don't. If she doesn't want to give it, we wont force her. That was the Empire way. We end the empire so we could give people the freedom to have their own choices. Busting in and force that woman to give the herb, then we would be no different than the old ways. Besides I know that was not what Ines wanted us to do."
"But she will die" Han replied to him
"And I will die with her and our baby. But I will not act like the Emperor. That is not the Jedi way" he sighed "Let's go. I want to be with my wife the last hours I can have with her" and he was about to turn when the door opened again.
The old lady appeared with the herb on her hands.
"Here, son." she said grabbing Luke's left hand and out the herb on it.
"I don't have any credits but I will pay for it. I promise" Luke grabbed the old lady hand and kissed them.
"You don't have too. That is the least I could do, to the son of a such great woman like our dear former Queen and Senate of Naboo"
Luke gasped at that information, as the old lady continue
"I knew your parents. I was there when they married in secret. I'm sure she is so proud of you right now. Now go. Save your wife and baby. If you want to know more about your mother, you know where to find me. Go" she said smiling at Luke "You look so much like your father"
"Thank you. Thank you so much, and I will come"
Han grabbed Luke's arm
"Luke come on"
Nod one more time, Luke followed Han and Chewie, running towards the Senate Hospital.
Leia was walking around the waiting room. Where was Luke? And where was Han and Chewie? In the room there was only R2 and 3PO, who for once was silence. Even if she liked the droid, but she was not in mood for his statistics at the moment. Everyone else had go home.
"Where are they?" she asked to herself. Ines condition got worse, but for some reason she was holding up, which made the doctors surprise. It felt like she was waiting for Luke to arrive.
Luke appeared running, followed by Han and Chewie
"Thank Goodness" she said once she saw them
"I don't have time. Where are the doctors" Luke asked them, as Leia pointed inside the room where Ines was.
He entered, breathing heavily.
"Doctor. Here?"
The doctor looked at the herb and looked back at Luke
"That herb is Reriokawa. It is from my planet and it kill deadly parasites. I know cause it saved a child. Use it on my wife"
"Mr. Skywalker, we don't know if this will work. And how we will administrate on her?"
"Normally in my planet we use as tea. So maybe we can use it on her IV. I know it will work. Trust me. You have to try"
The doctor nod and looking to her staff
"Come on we have work to do" and they left, while Luke head to Ines and ran his fingers on her hair.
"Hold on only for a while my love. Please"
Almost an hour has pass and the doctors didn't appear yet.
"What is taking so long?" Han asked, getting impatient.
At that moment the doctor appeared with an IV, filled what it looked like a brownish liquid and strapping above Ines, it attached to the needle it was already insert on her left hand vein, as they watch the liquid entering her.
"Sorry we took so long but it is something we never had it before." she said "Mr. Skywalker, if this works, you may have give us a cure for this parasite and saved a lot of people"
Luke looked at her and then to Ines
"Right now all I want is to save my wife and child."
"Luke, do you think it will work?" Leia looked at her brother
"It will work. I know it will work" he said and kissed Ines forehead. It has to work he thought.
