"Lisa!" Jack said surprised as he opened the door.
The words were barely out of his mouth before she had launched herself into his arms and pulled him down for a passionate kiss.
As they broke, he pulled back, confusion plastered all over his face, "You're not supposed to be back for another week."
"Well," she said, beaming at him, "I wanted to surprise you."
So she had missed him. Jack smiled smugly to himself. He had missed her too, and he had worried that she'd changed her mind about their - well, whatever this was.
He pulled her into a hug and kissed her hair. He pulled back and held her at arm's length, surveying her, "Look at you! You just made my night."
She chuckled, looked up at him, and kissed him again. And he kissed her back enthusiastically.
Amy and Marion snuck off the couch and peaked around the corner to see who it was at the door. They grinned at each other as they saw Jack and Lisa kissing in the kitchen.
"Plus," Lisa said, pulling back, "I had to come back because of a family crisis."
"Oh?" Jack said, his eyebrows disappearing into his hairline.
"My sister," Lisa started, pulling a face, "is going through a nasty divorce, so I am taking on my nephew."
"Your nephew?" Jack said, surprise evident in his voice.
And, hearing the tone in his voice, Marion resolved to tell her dad about the kid that Clint Riley was supposed to be sending to the ranch. He was not good with surprises. Marion shoved her shoulder into Amy's arm, and rolled her eyes over toward the couch. They left to give Lisa and Jack some privacy.
"Yup," Lisa said, nodding her head, "he's coming to live at Fairfield."
"When's he arriving?" Jack asked.
"Later this week," Lisa said.
Jack lifted her chin and kissed her softly, "You are a generous woman, Lisa Stillman."
She shrugged the complement off.
His eyes held her gaze, "You are." And he kissed her deeply again. "And I am very happy you are home," he said, as he pulled her into a hug.
"Me too," she said, looking up at him.
"Now," Jack said, taking her hand, "come over here, so I can take advantage of your undivided attention while I still have it."
Lisa laughed and followed him. She was fairly certain that she would follow Jack Bartlett anywhere.
