Letting out a relieved sigh, Nova wandered down the dark halls of the Moon Castle. She had been unable to sleep and Sesshomaru never stirred from his slumber when she crawled out of bed. With Khendon at her side and the slight rustle of movement behind her of her guards, she made her way towards the study in hopes she could tire her mind so she could return to sleep. Finding her way over to the desk, she sat in the high backed chair and looked around the dark room as Khendon laid down by her feet.
Pulsing her energy like Sesshomaru had been teaching her, she did not have to wait long before the servant she vaguely remembered when she had first woken up after Cayto's death. According to Mikasuki she was mute and as she saw a hint of scars under her high collared kimono, she understood why. Seeing that the daemon had anticipated her needs, she brought forth a tray with slices of fruit and fresh tea.
"Would you get a fire going please?" Nova asked and the daemon bowed before going over to the fireplace and quickly got it going before placing several logs in. "You may go."
Sesshomaru woke and found that Nova's side of the bed was cold once more. Glancing out the window, he noticed that it was still dark out side before getting out of bed. Dressing quickly, he followed her scent down the halls before frowning slight as he saw her guards positioned outside of his study. He walked passed them and into the study and stopped, seeing his mate curled up around her companion on several furs besides the fire. A tray sat on his desk with a cup of tea that had been poured but untouched and several pieces of fruit had been nibbled on. Glancing over all the scrolls, he sighed as he saw the work he had left for the morning already done and stacked for him to look over meaning she had been up for a good part of the night and didn't wake him again. She had been doing this for the past week, doing all the work but left it stacked for him to examine.
'She hasn't been eating well,'Khendon whined quietly as he lifted his head to look at him, 'but there has been no changes recently to her scent since detecting the cinnamon at the other residence. I have never seen this amount of restlessness from my mistress.'
"Mate," Sesshomaru spoke as he knelt down beside the sleeping woman and her ears twitched before she rolled onto her back and opened her eyes, showing her exhaustion. "Why are you in here?"
"Couldn't sleep," she mumbled as her eyes closed and her breaths soon steadied back out as she fell asleep quickly.
'I'm surprised that she hasn't been pupped by now.'
"Hn."
He had been wondering that as well. Frowning at that, he thought of when she last had her blood cycle and how she had mentioned that hers was always consistent. It had been some time as her last cycle had been when she was unconscious.
"Mate, wake up," Sesshomaru ordered as he pulled her up into a sitting position.
"What...?" She whined, her hands immediately going to rub her eyes.
"Since waking from your previous episode after killing that feline, have you bled at all?"
"It's too early for this," she muttered.
"Answer the question mate."
"No..." Suddenly she was fully awake and her eyes wide. "I'm late..."
"By three weeks if your cycle was as consistent as you say," he nodded.
"But you said you could detect it after only a week..."
"The only change to your scent has been the one that usually comes before an episode."
"Do you think that it is possible that isn't the reason you smell it this time?" She whispered.
"This Sesshomaru does not know as the smell is part of yours, not a new smell of its own that would indicate a pup. Is there technology in the other era that could test this that is accurate? If you are with pup, it is imperative we know."
"There is a test that could detect it this early, but after how my last conversation went with Kagome, I don't know how willing she would be to help," she frowned.
"This Sesshomaru will go. Until it is confirmed or proven false, you need to remain within these walls," he spoke as he got to his feet. "Do not over stress yourself, mate."
"Go away," she huffed before lying back down and cuddled against her companion.
Feeling strange about the possibility of Nova being pregnant, he returned to his rooms to grab his armor and weapons before taking the balcony and jumped into the air. Heading towards Edo, he hoped he would not have to scent track the half daemon that shared blood of his sire. Seeing a flash of holy light in the distance, he changed direction feeling the distinct energy of the Shikon miko. Seeing a hoard of daemon bearing down on the group, he frowned as he did not see Inuyasha anywhere. Drawing Bakusaiga, he finished off the daemons before landing in front of the Shikon miko.
"Lord Sesshomaru, what are you doing here?" The monk spoke, his body shaking as he held the cursed hand close, gripping the beads that sealed the tunnel.
"Where is the halfbreed?" He mused.
"Not here, but if you find him, beat him to a pulp," Kagome muttered and he smirked as she refused to even look him in the eye.
"This Sesshomaru did not come here for him. Shikon Miko, you assisted is requested."
"And what do you want?"
"Due to the scent that comes to my mate when an episode may trigger, it is uncertain as to what ails her. She spoke of a test that could be brought, but you are not required to assist," he spoke simply and she frowned, finally looking up.
"She's sick?"
"She has been restless, barely eating and preferring to sleep besides the fireplace in the study after finishing all the documents on this one's desk," he spoke before stepping closer to speak low into her ear, "Her cycle is also late."
"Wha...? Oh...!" Her eyes widened as she gasped as he stepped back. "You think she's...?"
"Hn."
"Oh...!"
"Kagome, what is it?" Sango frowned.
"I have to go..."
"This one will take you to the well, if that is what you require."
"Sango, Miroku, head back to Kaede," Kagome spoke as she grabbed an overly stuffed yellow bag.
"What about Inuyasha?"
"He's a big boy, he'll figure it out," she muttered as he summoned his cloud and she stepped onto it and he ascended rapidly. "I'm not sorry for what I said, but I do apologize how it came across. Everyone back home is just worried about her."
"You are forgiven this time, Shikon Miko. She has yelled at this one multiple times about that same topic, before finally adjusting."
"Why won't you let her go?"
"She is this ones mate, not his," he spoke coolly before wrapping them both in his light orb to teleport to the well in the woods. "How long do you require?"
"There is a place not too far from my home that is open this time of night so it shouldn't be too long," she spoke as they landed before jumping into the well and disappearing.
True to her word, Kagome returned with a bag full of boxes. He summoned his cloud and she stepped on, clutching the bag close and he teleported them to the castle where he landed on the balcony of his study. Opening the doors, he saw Nova still asleep on the furs and the fire was slowly dying out. Kagome went ahead of him and shook her gently as she knelt beside her.
"Go away..." she mumbled, not even opening her eyes.
"Geez, you're grouchy and after I came all this way," Kagome chuckled and Nova sat up as she flinched in surprise. "Hi."
"Hi..." she frowned as she looked around before her stormy eyes locked onto him. "What are you doing here...?"
"You think I'm going to let my cousin take these tests without family support?" Kagome asked. "Come on."
Nova let Kagome pull her to her feet before Khendon led the way out of the study. Sesshomaru followed them to his rooms and remained in the common area as the Shikon miko led her into the bedroom and closed the doors. Khendon remained near by and moved to lay down besides unlit fireplace on a black pelt. He didn't have to wait too long before both females came out and his mate seemed pale as she immediately moved to lay down besides Khendon, while the miko was grinning.
"Here's her results," Kagome spoke as she held an odd shaped object out and he took it. Turning it over, he stiffened seeing the words 'pregnant.' "Yeah, that's pretty much Nova's reaction right now. I brought prenatals in case this was the result that she'll need to take daily. She knows what they are but she's kinda in shock."
"Prenatals...?"
"Oh right, they're vitamins to help her remain healthy and support the baby as it grows. When she's further along, we could take her to the doctor where they could take pictures of the baby and be able to tell you the gender..."
"No."
"Fine..."
"You cannot tell your pack, Shikon Miko," Sesshomaru spoke and she frowned. "If word gets out that there will soon be an heir to the west, Nova will be in danger. Naraku had already tried to get at this Sesshomaru with this castle."
"I promise not to tell," she huffed. "Can I be taken back now?"
"Jaken," he spoke and the kappa waddled into the room. "Take Ah-Un and return the Shikon Miko to her pack."
"Yes, my lord," Jaken bowed.
"I'll dispose of this back home," Kagome spoke as she took the odd stick. "The bag of vitamins are on the bed for her and she needs to drink more fluids. She's dehydrated."
"Hn," he nodded gratefully before she followed the confused Jaken out of the room and the doors closed. "Sleeping on the floor will do you no favors, mate."
"It's comfortable," she mumbled and he ran a hand through his hair before removing his armor and weapons before laying down behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist.
"Hn."
