Chapter Forty-Six
Once Bella went to sleep, I called my father. I needed to speak with him. I couldn't wait until the morning. I was just too excited.
The thought of Bella having my child was just so amazing. I knew she was nervous, but I was excited. And with Bella being pregnant with my child, I would have to marry her, sooner rather than later. I just prayed she accepted my family's traditions and our way of life.
My father walked in the door and was surprised to find me in the kitchen and not in my study.
"Hm, what are we celebrating?" He asked when he saw me pouring my expensive bottle of Cognac. I got it when I was sixteen and I had been saving it for a very special occasion.
"Well, I have some news," I said as I poured him a glass, "Bella's pregnant."
"She is," He smiled, "You're kidding."
I shook my head, "She went to the doctor today and they confirmed she's with child."
"My boy," He said, slapping my shoulder, "Congratulations."
I chuckled, "Thanks." I handed him his drink.
"You know now that you're going to have to marry Bella before she gives birth." He said.
"I know. I'm planning on asking her when we go on our little Valentine's trip," I told him, "But I'm waiting to see what she decides. She might not keep the baby."
"Ah," He nodded, "Do you think it's a bit premature to be celebrating then?"
"Even if she decides not to keep it, it's still exciting," I said, "But I have a strong feeling she's going to keep it."
He nodded, "And if she gets rid of it? Will you resent her?"
"Of course not," I said, "I would understand her choice. I would be a little upset, but not with her. I mean, did you resent mom when she had too—,"
"That was a different scenario," Dad cut my off quickly.
I nodded and looked down at my drink. Several years ago, when I was nine, my mother was pregnant with their third child. She made it to the ninth month before the doctors realized that he had several severe abnormalities that would make his life extremely complicated and short. My parents had to make the very difficult decision to abort it.
I didn't understand what happened until I was much older. I just remember the decision crushed my mother. She stayed in bed for weeks. No one could coax her out. She wouldn't eat anything or talk to anyone. It was bad.
"Huh," I said as I thought about it, "Shit. I forgot about mom. Damn it. Man, now I really, really hope Bella doesn't decide to abort it."
"Well, I guess you won't know until she decides," He said, "Now, what have you figured out about our little friend?" he asked.
I took a long sip of my drink, "Nothing yet. Whoever did this covered up their trail very well. That sample they took from her bed was traced back to one of those sperm banks. The guy had no idea what the police were talking about. James has done a fine job covering all of this up."
Dad sighed, "It's my fault. I made you think you could underestimate James, and all this time he had a twin brother that none of us known about."
"It's alright dad," I said, "It's my fault. I should've taken James seriously when Bella shot him—,"
"Edward?" Bella said as she walked into the kitchen, "What are you doing up—, oh, hey Carlisle."
"Hello Bella," Dad smiled and nodded.
"What are you doing up baby? You should be in bed." I told her as I pulled her into my arms.
"I got a little hungry," She yawned, "What is your dad doing here?"
"He just stopped by." I kissed the top of her head.
"I was just heading out," Dad said, "I'll see you later Edward. It was good seeing you Bella."
Dad gave Bella a hug and a kiss before leaving.
Bella raided the fridge, pulling out the leftover Chinese food. I waited until she was finished to walk her back up to bed. We cuddled up together, she fell asleep, and I was soon to follow, but then my phone started ringing. I grabbed it quickly as to not wake her. It was a random number.
"Hello?" I said quietly.
"Edward, it's Tanya," She said in a panicked tone, "I-I need help."
"What's wrong?" I asked, now sitting up, "Where are you calling from?"
"I'm at a payphone near the docks. I was attacked," She said, "I ran. But they're still here somewhere—,"
"Alright, I'm coming," I said as I pulled my clothes on, "Just find a place and hunker down. I'll call the police."
"Please hurry," She whimpered, "I'm so scared."
"It's okay, T," I told her, "I'll be there soon."
Once I was dressed I ran out to my car, calling the cops. I left a letter for Bella as well just in case she woke up to an empty bed. It was horrible for me to say, but I hoped this didn't take long. I just wanted to be with Bella.
By the time I had gotten to the docks, the police were there. They had Tanya wrapped up in a blanket and sitting in an ambulance. Emmett was beside her.
"T," I said as I walked to the ambulance.
"Oh Edward!" She cried, throwing her hands around me. I cleared my throat awkwardly and placed a hand on her back to comfort her.
"Are you badly injured?" I asked.
She sniffled, "No. Just a few scrapes and bruises."
I nodded, "What happened? Why are you out here?"
"Well, I went out with this man, and he drove us here then shoved me out of the car." She shuddered, "It was so scary."
"Did he say anything? Was there anyone else?"
"No. He just shoved me out and tried to r-rape me."
I patted her shoulder, "Don't worry T, we'll find out who did this."
She nodded, "I know you will, E."
My phone started ringing. I looked at it and saw that it was Bella.
"Edward what's going on?" Bella asked in a frantic tone.
"Hey baby," I said, "It's okay. I just had to run out and help Tanya."
"Oh," She said, "Is everything okay?"
"No. Not really. She was attacked."
"Oh god," She said, "Is she okay?"
"She'll be alright. It wasn't as bad as it could've been." I told her, "I should be home soon. I'm just making sure she's okay."
"Alright. Well, be careful."
"I will. Love you."
She hung up the phone without saying anything. That was okay, I figured she was still sorting out her own feelings for me. But I was certain she loved me as well.
"I see you've reached the L-word stage of your relationship." Tanya smiled gently.
"Yeah," I said, "So, you're really okay, T?"
She nodded, "I will be."
"Alright. Just give Emmett the guy's info. We'll find him and make him pay."
She grabbed my arm, "Edward, I'm too scared to go back to my hotel room. Can I please go back to your house and stay there? Just until I leave on Saturday."
I bit the inside of my cheek, "I'm not sure that's a good idea, Tanya."
"Please Edward," She begged, her blue eyes wide and tearful.
"Alright," I said after a minute, "Just until Saturday. But no funny business."
"I promise, nothing funny will happen." She said, "Thank you."
I helped her back into my car. She was shaking, I felt badly for her. I swore to myself I'd find the asshole who did this too her. Tanya and I may not have ended on good terms, but I did still care about her. We were friends.
I hoped Bella was okay with this. It was just a couple of days. I probably should've called Bella to make sure it was okay, but Tanya couldn't stop sobbing about what happened.
I helped Tanya get out of the car and into the house. Bella was standing in the kitchen when we walked in. She looked a little surprised that Tanya was here.
"Hey, baby," I said as I walked over and gave her a kiss.
"Hey," She said, "What's Tanya doing here?"
"She's afraid to stay by herself in her hotel room. Do you mind if she stays here until Saturday?"
"That's fine." She said, but the underlying tone in her voice made me think it wasn't okay. Shit. I should've checked with Bella first.
"Let me show you where the guest room is," I said.
"It's alright, I remember," Tanya smiled, "Up the stairs, third door on the left. I helped your mother decorate it, remember?"
"Oh yeah," I chuckled awkwardly, "Well, uh, I'll see you tomorrow Tanya."
"See you," She said, "It was good seeing you Bella. I'll see you in the morning."
Bella nodded at her, a tight smile on her face. Once Tanya had walked upstairs, I grabbed Bella's hand.
"I'm sorry princess," I said, "I should've called and checked with you first. I know this is weird."
Bella shrugged, "It's fine, Edward. I get it."
"You're not mad?"
"I mean, I'm not exactly thrilled, but I understand her fear. It's scary to be on your own after you've been attacked. And it's only till Saturday."
I kissed her deeply, "You're so amazing. I promise I'm going to make this up to you. Next weekend, you and me, the Poconos. It's going to be amazing."
She smiled, "It'll be great."
I kissed her again, placing my hands on her hips, "I love you."
Yes I know, Edward is a dummy for letting Tanya stay with them. But even though she drives him insane, he does still care about her and he wants to make sure she's okay and it's only for a few days. I know this has probably pissed off a lot of you, so let me know in a review!
