Izuku frowned slightly as he listened to his boss who was in the process of explaining the latest mission. Standing in the supervisor's familiar office, Izuku wondered just what the mission would be.
"Apparently we have some actionable intel for once." The portly older man said with a hint of humor. "It seems the PLF has been busy trying to improve the drug named Trigger, and apparently they have made a breakthrough. We need to stop them before they begin to mass produce the improved drug. The higher-ups seem to be impressed with your recent results, and you have been selected to lead the mission. It also helps that you have one of the strongest pro-heroes in the country on your side."
Izuku's supervisor placed a large topographical map on his desk and pointed to a specific spot. "The mission area is out in the sticks. The hidden lab is supposedly in the general vicinity of this spot, but satellite imaging has not been able to spot anything. Most likely, the lab is hidden underground or in a cave somewhere. Command wants this lab badly, so they don't want to risk tipping off the PLF with a large strike force. Hence, why they are deciding to send a small team of specialists. Any questions?"
Izuku pursed his lips as he examined the map. "What about backup? If things go pear shaped I want to be sure we have some heavy hitters on standby."
Izuku's boss was silent for a few moments before speaking. "I asked the same thing, but apparently logistics does not want to take any chances when it comes to tipping off the PLF. They said you have full access to any reinforcement requests, but there won't be any backup on standby. Best case scenario, it takes twenty minutes for a backup team to get ready and make it over to you."
Izuku grumbled unhappily. "Fucking pencil-pushers. That means if something goes wrong we are on our own."
Izuku's supervisor shrugged awkwardly. "Lets just hope it does not come to that. I have sent all the briefing materials to your office, do you have any idea who you want on your team?"
Putting his worries on hold for a moment, Izuku nodded. "I will take my team from the warehouse raid. Except for Agent Tanaka since she is on bodyguard duty. I know their specialties and our teamwork is solid, I am confident that they can handle themselves."
Smiling proudly, Izuku's boss nodded understandingly. "Good choice Midoriya, I will notify them that they have been selected for a field operation. Take tomorrow to prep, the mission will begin at 0400 local time the next day."
Nodding his affirmative, Izuku pulled out his cellphone. "Sounds like a plan sir. Looks like Bravo team is going to meet Miruko tomorrow."
Rumi huffed in slight annoyance as Izuku drove her and Uraraka to the meeting spot.
"Do I really have to personally introduce myself to these guys?" The rabbit hero asked haughtily. "No offense Midoriya, but I am gonna be really annoyed if I have to babysit your co-workers for the entire mission."
Rumi flinched slightly as Izuku gave a brief but stern look.
"Yes you do." Izuku said flatly. "These guys are the same ones that helped me rescue you back in the warehouse, so stop acting like they don't know what they are doing. If you are going to be a pain in my ass you can just stay home while we do the mission ourselves."
Rumi felt her ears droop slightly at the prospect of letting her boyfriend go off on a possibly dangerous mission without her. Plus, she wanted to show off for him, and it will be hard to do that if Izuku focuses on his team the entire time.
"Sorry." Rumi mumbled apologetically. "I just...find it easier to work when it is just the three of us."
Rumi was glad to see a small grin on Izuku's face as he glanced at her. "I know, but you need to get used to working as part of a team. It will be good for you."
Arriving at a generic parking garage, Rumi looked around curiously as Izuku searched for a parking spot. The only nearby buildings were generic office spaces, and Rumi was certain that nobody in those offices worked for the Ministry of Defense.
After finding a suitable parking spot, Izuku got out of his car and motioned for Rumi and Uraraka to follow him. Following her boyfriend over to a generic elevator, Rumi waited expectantly as Izuku summoned the metal box and ushered everyone inside. Once the doors closed, Izuku pressed a hidden panel below the floor buttons and pressed his thumb against a hidden fingerprint scanner. With a cheerful beep, the scanner retracted as the elevator suddenly began to descend.
Looking over at her intern, Rumi suppressed a giggle as the teen girl looked at Izuku in awe, clearly still under the impression that Izuku was some kind of mythical secret agent.
A minute later, the elevator came to a stop and opened its doors to reveal a security checkpoint manned by armed guards. Following Izuku out of the elevator, Rumi waited for her turn to walk through the body scanner.
Just before she was about to walk through the scanner, Rumi gave the guards a menacing glare. "Any of you try to get handsy with me, and I will break your fingers."
The three guards all nodded nervously, and Rumi passed through the scanner with no problem. After waiting for Uraraka, Rumi followed Izuku through a set of thick metal security doors and into a large room that could easily be mistaken for an aircraft hangar.
The underground storage facility seemed to have everything one might need. Dozens of racks of weapons showcased brand-new weaponry, there were tables full of high-tech equipment ranging from night vision goggles to laser designators, and there were even a few fully armed tanks parked in the corner.
Off to the side, a group of agents waited expectantly. It seemed Bravo team had arrived early so as to not miss anything.
Sighing in annoyance, Rumi dutifully followed Izuku over to the group of agents and waited for the introductions to begin.
"Everyone, it is good to see you all are doing well." Izuku said courteously. "Let's get the introductions out of the way." He then gestured to Rumi and the nervous Uraraka. "This is Miruko and her intern Uravity." Izuku then gestured to the group of agents. "And this is Bravo team. They all have plenty of combat experience and I have seen their effectiveness first-hand. You would be hard pressed to find a better group of agents to work with."
Rumi resisted the urge to roll her eyes, instead opting to maintain an expressionless mask. "Nice to meet you." She said unenthusiastically. "Let's all get along."
After a slightly awkward round of everyone introducing themselves, Izuku clapped his hands for attention.
"Okay now that we all know each other, let's get down to business." The green-haired man said professionally as he motioned for everyone to follow him.
Walking over to a large table full of maps, photographs, and charts, Izuku began handing out sheets of paper to everyone. "I will now begin the briefing so take notes."
Everyone except Rumi immediately pulled out a pencil or pen, which made the rabbit hero snort in amusement.
Ignoring Rumi's obvious stubborn attitude, Izuku began the briefing.
"Command has gotten intel that the PLF has found out a way to improve the drug known as Trigger." Izuku said authoritatively. "Our mission is to find the hidden lab producing the improved Trigger and shut it down. Command has determined that the best course of action is to rely on a surgical strike instead of a large operation. This has both advantages and disadvantages. On one hand, if everything goes according to plan we will take the lab and its guards by surprise. This will give us the upper hand in securing any important materials or documents as well as capturing the researchers in charge. On the other hand, if we do not plan carefully we could be spotted and have the tables turned on us. Besides destroying anything of value, if the PLF forces know we are coming they will have plenty of time to set up an ambush. To ensure this does not happen, we need to plan for every scenario and prepare accordingly. Understood?"
There was a chorus of affirmatives from the assembled agents, to which Izuku nodded in a pleased manner.
"A side note, because of the importance of the lab our enemies will most likely be individuals using powerful quirks instead of conventional weapons." Izuku stated. "Hence, why Miruko is accompanying us. If things go sideways the priority is to support Miruko and Uravity as they do their jobs. They have more experience fighting quirk-enhanced individuals and as such we will leave any major fighting to them."
Puffing out her chest proudly, Rumi could not help but boast a little. "With me on this mission there is no way it can go wrong. This whole thing will be a cakewalk!"
Chuckling softly in a way that made Rumi's heart skip a beat, Izuku nodded in agreement. "As much as I like to stay humble, having seen her work first-hand I cannot deny her effectiveness."
The rest of the briefing passed quickly, Izuku and the other agents discussing strategies and battle plans that honestly made Rumi more than a little bit bored. If she was being honest, Rumi did not understand why they needed to have such a complicated plan.
What's wrong with simply charging straight in and kicking ass?
However, since she respected Izuku's decision making Rumi simply occupied herself by daydreaming about future dates with her boyfriend.
Eventually, the planning session came to an end, to which Izuku nodded in satisfaction. "Alright, now that the logistics are taken care of, let's gear up. One of the perks about being assigned to such a high-priority mission means that we have a blank check when it comes to gear. So make sure to pick the best equipment for your role."
There was a chorus of happy cheers from the assembled agents before they split up and left to outfit themselves.
Waiting for Izuku to put all of the papers away, Rumi could not help but ask a curious question. "So wait, you are saying that sometimes you don't get to choose whatever gear you want? I thought that being part of the Ministry of Defense means you get access to the fancy stuff all the time?"
Izuku shook his head and motioned for Rumi and Uraraka to follow him. "Nope, each mission has a budget. The more high-stakes the mission, the bigger the budget. Luckily, this mission is considered very important by those in charge, so we get to use all the cool toys we want."
Izuku then gave Rumi and Uraraka a tour of the facility as he picked out his gear. Some of the stuff was actually quite interesting, and Rumi and Uraraka got to have a little fun trying out the pieces of equipment like micro drones, body armor, and advanced spotting optics. By the time Izuku had chosen all of his gear, Rumi found herself actually enjoying the visit to the facility.
Then it came time for Izuku to pick out his weapons.
At first, Rumi did not give the variety of weapons much thought. They were all just different types of guns, so what was the point about learning about it? All guns were the same (to Rumi) and as such did not warrant much attention.
At least that was what Rumi thought until Izuku began explaining all the different ways guns could deliver death. Armor piercing Incendiary rounds, hollow-point bullets, whisper-quiet suppressors, all had their own specific uses.
Halfway through Izuku explaining why he preferred one type of assault rifle over another, a thought hit Rumi that made a chill run down her spine.
The reason Izuku knew so much about guns was because they were the tools best suited for killing quirk users.
Like he had said back at UA. You could have a powerful quirk, but that didn't matter if a sniper could take you out from a mile away before you could even hear the gunshot.
Before she could stop herself, Rumi blurted out a morbid question that she had been thinking about.
"So Izuku, what kind of gun would be best if you were going against me?"
Seemingly caught up in his schoolboy-like fascination with firearms, Izuku answered before he realized what he was doing.
"Probably a semi-automatic shotgun using 12 guage buckshot rounds, preferably razor-edged shot for maximum wounding and damage since you don't wear any body armor. Even if only one or two of the razor shots hit you would still probably bleed out in a few minutes."
His eyes going wide upon realizing what he just said, Izuku frantically retracted the statement as he looked at Rumi with terrified eyes. "N-n-not that I would e-ever f-fight you! Yeah, f-forget what I j-j-just said! Just a s-stupid hypothetical situation!"
There was an awkward silence as Rumi tried to wrap her head around the fact Izuku probably had a plan to kill everyone he met since he was quirkless. Realistically it made sense considering his job and quirklessness, but it was still a little frightening.
Luckily the silence was broken by an oblivious Uraraka poking her head around a nearby shelf with a pair of large night vision goggles on her head.
"Umm...Agent Midoriya. Is there a bathroom around here?" The brown-haired girl asked sheepishly.
As Rumi mentally chastised herself for asking such a weird question, Izuku jumped on the chance to change the topic.
"Y-yeah there is." The green-haired man said with a weak laugh. "It should be over there behind the wall of body armor."
As Uraraka disappeared from sight, Rumi went to apologize to her lover but was cut off by Izuku turning around and looking for his agents.
"We should f-finish up here. Tomorrow is going to be a busy day."
