Chapter 46: Bradley Proposed!
"Bradley, this picnic was amazing." Kiara said. "And so sweet of you."
Bradley had asked Kiara out on a picnic date, and they just got finished with it in the backyard of the castle. Now it's time for him to ask her a very important question.
"I'm glad you liked it." Bradley said. "Now, Kiara...I have something to tell you."
"Okay then."
"Well...we met 11 months ago. And you fell for this guy who used to be a playboy."
Kiara giggled. "Has it really been that long ago?"
Bradley laughed a bit. "Yeah, it has. I asked you out one day and we became boyfriend and girlfriend. And then come a month later, and you broke up with me because you found out that I was dating other girls."
"Yeah...can we not talk about that?"
"Uh, right." Bradley said. "I won't mention it. But I remember that as soon as I got home after that, I realized that...I felt something when I was with you." Kiara smiled. "And so...I knew that I wanted you back, but Drew kicked me out of your kingdom, so I didn't even want to try going back. And my feelings for you grew and grew as time went on. When I finally could go back because I helped Drew, that's when I tried asking you out again. After a second time of singing a romantic song to you, you finally took me back."
Kiara smiled shyly. "I could just sense that you weren't a playboy anymore."
"And...I know that...we've only been together for the second time for 6 months…" Bradley continued. "...but I know that what we have is real. I love you, Kiara."
"I love you too."
"So...I'd like to ask you…" Bradley reached in his pocket, pulling out his ring box. He held it in front of him. Kiara's eyes widened. "...will you marry me?" He opened the box to show the diamond ring.
Kiara gasped and stared at the ring in shock, her eyes watery with happiness.
"I know that we haven't been together for a long time, but...this is how I feel about you."
Kiara looked at Bradley. "Truly?"
Bradley nodded.
Kiara smiled. "Yes, Bradley. Absolutely yes! I'd love to marry you."
Bradley took out the ring, sliding it onto Kiara's ring finger. Kiara stared at it with watery eyes and a bright smile. Bradley took that hand and placed a kiss on it. Kiara blushed.
"I can't wait to tell my parents." Kiara said.
Bradley smiled at her. "They'll be happy. I asked them for their blessings, and I even told your sister and brother-in-law about this too."
"Really?" Kiara asked. "And they were okay with it?"
Bradley chuckled. "Not so much...but they finally agreed after our conversation."
Kiara smiled. "That's good. I want to tell everyone the good news."
"So what are we waiting for?"
Kiara and Bradley entered the Throne Room. May and Drew saw Kiara start running towards them.
She stopped at the thrones after walking up the stairs. "Kiara, why so happy?" May asked.
"Look." Kiara said, holding out her hand.
May gasped. "You said yes?"
"I sure did!"
May looked at Kiara. "I'm so happy for you."
"I think you two are perfect for each other." Drew said.
"Thanks, you guys." Kiara said. "I'm so happy that he proposed."
May laughed. "We can tell."
"Well, I need to go tell Mom and Dad now."
"Go on."
It's now the month of May. May is 7 weeks pregnant.
May still hasn't told Drew that she's pregnant, because she plans on doing that a different day. She's been doing well at keeping this a secret. Drew had said before that he'll wait for her to tell him what's been on her mind, which means that he suspects that she's been thinking hard about something. What she's been thinking about everyday is her pregnancy.
But other than that day when Drew said that he'll wait for her, she's been good at keeping it a secret. And she had a checkup at the hospital when she needed one.
Today is May's birthday, which means that she has a day off from ruling. She just woke up and was surprised by Drew who was holding a red rose in front of her face.
May blinked and her gaze moved to Drew. "Drew?"
"Happy birthday." Drew said.
May smiled. Drew moved the rose away from her, so she could sit up. Drew then put the rose in her hair.
"Now hurry and get ready." Drew said, getting off the bed. "I have a special birthday breakfast waiting for you in the dining room."
"Aww…" May cooed. "...that's sweet." She got out of bed. "Wait for me, and I'll be there in five minutes."
"Okay then." Drew said. He kissed her on her forehead before leaving the room.
May went into her closet and changed out of her pajamas and into one of her Queen dresses in five minutes. She put on her crown before exiting the closet. She took her waistband with her scepter and wrapped it around her waist.
May left the room and met Drew in the dining room. She sat down next to him with a plate of her favorite breakfast foods in front of her.
Drew smiled at her. "Dig in."
May smiled. "You don't have to tell me twice." She started eating her food.
Drew took a bite of his before speaking again. "So, since you get the day off, you can leave ruling today to me."
May looked at Drew and her smile softened. "Remember when I promised you at our wedding that we'll rule together everyday?"
Drew looked at May. "I-I didn't mean to make you sad about that or anything…"
May shook her head. "I'm okay with it now. Back then…you were worried that the people wouldn't accept you as King."
"And now?"
"I know that I can trust you to rule on your own for a day." May said. Drew smiled. "I knew when we got married that I wanted to help you succeed as a royal as best as I can. And I made that promise to always rule together. But now I think about...how you've come so far. You're confident and an amazing King. So thank you...for ruling alone today. I hope that if there's anything wrong today though, you'll come to me for help."
Drew nodded. "I will. Thanks."
May smiled.
Drew is ruling alone today. He's on his throne while May is in their room. He's been ruling for two hours, solving problems, and then Kiara entered the Throne Room and went to Drew.
"Kiara, what's up?" Drew asked.
"I came to see if you need any help." Kiara said.
"Uhh...no. I got this."
"Well...I was wondering if maybe...you could let me take your place today."
Drew cocked his head in confusion.
"You see…" Kiara sat down on May's throne. "...I'll be the Queen of Rose. And I was wondering if I could get in some practice of ruling a kingdom. And you could spend May's birthday with her."
"Hmm...would May agree to that?" Drew asked.
"Please…" Kiara pleaded. "I could use some practice before marrying Bradley."
"Well…" Drew thought for a moment. "...all right then."
"Really?" Kiara asked excitedly.
Drew smiled and nodded. "You'll be great at it." He stood up. "I'm sure you already know our schedule by heart, right?"
Kiara nodded. "Sure do."
"Then good luck."
"Thanks a lot."
Drew walked down the staircase and left the Throne Room. He went upstairs to his room, walking to the bed where May is.
May looked up. "Drew? What are you doing here?"
Drew climbed onto the bed, sitting next to May. "I let Kiara be Queen for a day."
"What?" May asked incredulously. "Kiara?"
"Yeah. She came to me to ask if she could rule for the day to get in some practice for when she's Queen of Rose. I thought it's good for her to practice a bit, and for me to spend your birthday with you for the rest of the day, so I said okay."
May smiled. "If you say it's okay, then I do too."
Drew grabbed his sword's grip. "Teleport." A small pink box appeared in front of him after disappearing from inside the closet. He took the box.
"What's that?" May asked.
"Your birthday present." Drew said, holding the box out to her.
May gasped excitedly and accepted it. She tore the pink wrapping paper to reveal a black box. She slowly took the lid off and stared at what's inside. It's a rose pink necklace with a raindrop-shaped pink jewel inside a heart.
May looked up at Drew. "It's beautiful."
Drew smiled. "I know you're already wearing one, but I thought I'd get you another, just in case you feel like choosing."
"Drew...you know I said that I'd never take this one off." May said, holding her necklace with the rose that has the letter 'D' on it.
"I know...I just...hope you like this one too. You don't have to wear it or switch it. Just like it."
May smiled. "I love it, Drew. It's so beautiful."
"I'm glad to hear that."
A silence filled the room. May and Drew are just smiling at each other. After a moment, May started singing.
(This song is "A Thousand Years" by Christina Perri.)
"Heart beats fast. Colors and promises. How to be brave? How can I love when I'm afraid to fall? But watching you stand alone. All of my doubts suddenly goes away somehow."
"One step clo...ser." May continued. "I have died everyday waiting for you. Darling, don't be afraid. I have loved you for a thousand years. I'll love you for a thousand more."
May placed the small box on the bed. "Time stands still. Beauty in all she is. I will be brave. I will not let anything take away what's standing in front of me. Every breath. Every hour has come to this."
"One step clo...ser." May continued. "I have died everyday waiting for you. Darling, don't be afraid. I have loved you for a thousand years. I'll love you for a thousand more."
May placed her hand on Drew's. "And all along I believed I would find you. Time has brought your heart to me. I have loved you for a thousand years. I'll love you for a thousand more.
"One step clo...ser. One step clo...ser." May sang. "I have died everyday waiting for you. Darling, don't be afraid. I have loved you for a thousand years. I'll love you for a thousand more."
"And all along I believed I would find you." She continued. "Time has brought your heart to me. I have loved you for a thousand years. I'll love you for a thousand more." She sang, finishing the song.
Drew lifted up her hand and placed a kiss on it. May blushed slightly. He slowly lowered her hand while saying, "I love you...my beautiful Queen."
"I love you more...my handsome King." May said.
"I doubt that."
May giggled. "I guess you'd be surprised by how much I love you then."
Drew brushed her cheek. "I'll end up surprising you too." He said before leaning in and kissing her on the lips.
