"Imagine if they all found out about us," Cho murmured, her deep brown eyes closed and her hands curled around her soft yellow blankets. She and Padma had gone to sleep about half an hour ago. Padma had woken up to Cho's talking.
Padma laughed and shook her head. She was used to Cho talking in her sleep. Most of the time it was nonsense. She wondered if this time would be any different. So far this month, they'd had a conversation about the best cheese and one where Cho repeated pretended she could talk to dragons. Padma kept threatening to record Cho's sleeping musings, but she kept forgetting to look up the spell.
"Who?" she asked, entertaining her girlfriend's random chatter. She leaned back against her bright magenta pillow. This might be entertaining.
"The lizards," Cho answered, as if it was the most matter of fact thing in the world. Padma blinked and tried not to laugh. She'd been right. This was going to be entertaining.
"And why would they care that we're together?" Padma asked, giggling. This could be more interesting than the time Cho had dreamed they were all living in a space bubble and space pirate princesses were attacking. That had ended up being a fun night. Cho, of course, hadn't remembered any of it in the morning.
"Because then they'd be mad we didn't invite them to the wedding," Cho stated. Padma leaned over closer to Cho, their bodies almost touching.
"What wedding? We're not even engaged yet, Cho," she replied. It was true. They'd been dating almost three years without a ring in sight. Sometimes Padma wondered if Cho preferred it that way, she wasn't sure if Cho's family approved her and Padma being a couple. They rarely talked about them or saw them.
"But we will be once I find the perfect ring. And they'd be upset because they wouldn't know which color to be. They're chameleons after all," she continued, burrowing a bit further under the heavy
dark grey blankets. Padma fought back a fit of giggles. Lizards? At a wedding? It made about as much sense as most of Cho's random dream rambles.
"Then they can be rainbows and we can have them on top of the seats," Padma answered, giving into a fit of laughter. Lizards? Really? And what did Cho mean about finding the perfect ring? Part of Padma wondered just how much of this was Cho's dream. Was she just dreaming or was she really planning to propose? The idea of finally being able to say 'yes' to that question, the biggest question a relationship could have made Padma's heart pound.
"Yes, perfect. It's be to be prepared though, they'll look amazing on the white chairs," Cho agreed, a smile crossing her sleeping face. Padma sighed, pulling up her own blankets. She knew Cho wouldn't remember this conversation in the morning. She never remembered anything she talked about in her sleep. Still, the idea of Cho looking for the perfect ring brought a smile to Padma's face. Slowly she leaned over, her long black hair brushing against Cho's face.
"I love you, Cho, even if you do have the craziest dreams," she whispered, giving Cho a kiss on the cheek.
"I don't have dreams, I have plans, big plans!" Cho announced causing Padma to laugh loudly again. "And I love you too," Cho mumbled before rolling over and starting to snore softly into her pillow. Padma sighed happily, even if it was nothing more than dream, Cho did love her and that was all the really mattered. Padma closed her eyes falling into a thankfully dreamless sleep. Cho could have all the crazy dreams in her opinion.
