Chapter 44: A Horrifying Realization

"Who's Glitchtrap," Hitoshi asked hesitantly, but deep down he knew.

"He's that virus you met in the hospital," William said.

"Why do you call him a virus," the purple eyed teen asked confused. "Is he wearing a suit? Is he another game tester? How does he have a quirk?"
"William let out a dark, bitter chuckle that froze Hitoshi to his core.

"That stupid rabbit isn't a game tester," the raven haired man said with a sardonic grin. "He's not even human. He's a computer virus! Somehow, and I don't know how, he gained sentience. Henry actually had him locked up in the game. I stumbled upon him when I was testing it."

"Then how—," Hitoshi started to ask, but then he froze in horror at the realization. "No...! Nonono! Please, tell me you didn't!"

William just looked down in defeat, and Hitoshi chocked up.

"Why," Hitoshi cried.

"My kids," William whispered, voice heavy with his guilt. "He said he could bring back my kids."

"And you believed him," the dual haired teen yelled in disbelief.

William sighed as he rubbed his temples.

"Hitoshi," he said seriously, getting the upset teen's attention with his change in tone and his broken posture. "I was a mess."

"Obviously," the violet eyed teen muttered darkly.

William winced at the teen's tone as pain shot straight through his heart—though he knew he deserved it, but the raven haired man continued, "I was drunk almost all the time, I started cutting..."

Hitoshi shot up in shock and horror.

"I wanted to die," the blue eyed man confessed in a soft, broken tone and the violet eyed teen launched himself at his mentor in his sorrowed horror as he cried into the man's shoulder. "I was at the point where I just didn't care anymore... So when Glitch offered the deal, I took it. I knew I shouldn't trust him. I knew he was going to do somethings horrible. But, I still took the deal and it was the worst decision I ever made..."

"What did he do," Hitoshi whispered, and his voice was rough with his despondency and tears.

"He possessed me and murdered six kids," William hoarsely confessed.

Hitoshi couldn't say anything; he just closed his eyes in his horror.

After William's confession, Hitoshi left for his room. The violet haired teen needed time to think. He couldn't believe that William went through all of that. How much pain has the man been through?

He also couldn't believe that William would do something so stupid! How could he ever trust someone like Glitchtrap?! William seemed to smart for that...

Just how messed up was he during that time?!

Hitoshi bumped his head against his pillow. This was way too much to process...

William immediately went back to the mindscape when Hitoshi left the room and laid down on Izuku's lap.

"He hate me," the raven haired man said. "No he doesn't," Izuku said with a small, nervous smile. "He just needs to process it."

"Did you not see the way he looked at me," William moaned as he buried his head on Izuku's leg.

"He was just confused," Izuku said as he gently ran a hand through William's long, dark locks. "You have to admit it was out of character for you."

William just hummed dismissively.

Izuku sighed. He didn't know what to say. It'll be fine," a gruff voice said breaking the awkward silence. "That boy adores you."

"Spring," Izuku cheered, glad to see the pear green rabbit.

"So you're talking to me now," William asked bitterly.

"Oh, I'm still ticked off," Springtrap growled. "I can understand you taking the deal before. You weren't in your right mind. This time, however, you freaking knew better!"

"I didn't have a choice," William yelled.

"Yes, you did," Springtrap growled.

"We would have died," William said deadly quiet.

"Then maybe we should have died," Springtrap answered back monotoned, completely serious.

Izuku sat there stunned for a moment.

"Hey," he then yelled. "Stop fighting! I don't like this situation either, but we did the best we could! All of us did. I think Glitchtrap gave up more than he was planning to anyways. Plus, now that we know that he's here, we can keep an eye on him and try to stop him! Or, at least, distract him!"

Springtrap hummed in thought.

"I still don't like this," the alter growled.

"Neither do I," William confessed with a tired sigh. "Neither do I."

The next few days were tense for Izuku and Hitoshi. Hitoshi was avoiding William; or at least, he was only talking to him during their training or to help fix up Izuku's animatronic form.

This of course, made William moody and depressed. When he gained control, he'd keep himself buried in their stock portfolio, his personal projects, and he even confessed to creating small side business' where he sold small gadgets and jewelry. He was actually starting to make them pretty wealthy.

Inko, of course, was becoming increasingly concern for her boys. She hated them fighting. However, Izuku told her it was just a misunderstanding and that it would all work out eventually. Inko wasn't sure she believed that, but she ended up letting it slide...for now. If it didn't resolve soon she would fix it herself.

The only really notable things that happened during the break before classes started again was that Aizawa and Nezu came by with Detective Naomasa when he came to ask them about what happened at the USJ.

~Flashback~

William had control that day after training. Izuku hoped that by letting William take control more often that it would help Hitoshi to talk to William more. It hadn't really helped yet, but Izuku still held out hope that it eventually would.

However, that day, there was a change in William's routine of trying to earn more money for their future.

William was startled when a knock sounded at the door. He cursed when he dropped his wire cutters and cut his hand.

"Cipher," he called. "Can you get the door?"

"Yes, Willy," the chipper bunny animatronic sung as he skipped to the door.

"Hello, Cipher," a tired, bored voice drawled as another one squeaked in surprise. "Is Midoriya and Shinsou home?"

"Yes, Aizawa-sensei," Cipher said happily as the little bunny bounced on the balls of his feet. "Shall I get them for you?"

"Please," the detective asked awkwardly, and the yellow bunny skipped away to collect the requested residents. "What is that?!"

"That's Cipher," Izuku said, who had taken control after William bandaged their hand while he heard the commotion. "He's an animatronic."

"Problem child built him," the raven haired pro said—secretly proud of his student's accomplishment—as he sprawled out on a chair.

"Oh," the detective said in surprise and sat down on the coach—Izuku joining him; and by that time Hitoshi came in and sat by Izuku.

"Sensei," Hitoshi asked as he and Izuku took in the underground hero's appearance. "Are you okay?"

Aizawa was completely wrapped in bandages—his arms in slings—and his eyes were barely able to be seen.

"I'm fine," the raven haired pro said dismissively. "It's illogical to let a small injury like this stop me from doing my job."

All four of them deadpanned; though Izuku, William, and Springtrap were being hypocritical because they would do the same thing.

"So, Detective," Izuku said to change the subject, and Detective Naomasa blinked in surprise. "What can we do for you?"

"I'm actually here to ask you about the USJ," Naomasa said. "Do you mind answering a few questions?"

The two teens shook their head to show their consent, and the detective began his questioning. The questions were mostly simple, and both dual haired teens retold how they first saw the villains, how they all got separated, and then they recounted their experiences in their different zones.

William, Spring, and Izuku growled in unison when they heard how Hitoshi was hurt and nearly drowned. However, Springtrap laughed in glee when he heard about the bomb.

"We we both resorted to explosives," Izuku teased and Aizawa groaned.

Problem children.

After they both retold their stories, the detective moved on to Izuku's fight with Shigaraki...and the Nomu.

"Why did you engage Shigaraki," the detective asked.

"He was going to kill Toshi," Izuku answered frankly. "Then he would have killed the rest of us. Aizawa-sensei and Thirteen were already down. What else was I supposed to do? Run?! At that point, there was no running, and like hell I would have left Toshi to die!"

Hitoshi smiled at Izuku and squeezed his arm. Aizawa felt pride for his student, and Detective Naomasa was stunned at the teen's resolve.

"The reports said your form was different and your voice changed," the detective said and Aizawa subtly sat up in a mixture of curiosity and worry about how the green eyed teen would handle this.

"It's another aspect of my quirk," Izuku said vaguely.

"Can you tell me about your battle," Naomasa said with a nod at the teen's answer as he noted it down.

"Spring, you're up," Izuku said mentally and Springtrap took front seat and began detailing his battle with Shigaraki and how it lead up to the battle with the Nomu.

Aizawa took notice of the shift in demeanor and payed closer attention the the green haired teen. The undertoned gruffness and the more aggressive poster made him certain that this wasn't William. It must be the second personality...Springtrap, wasn't it?

"And, how did you defeat the Nomu," the detective asked, and Aizawa noticed that the unknown alter was subtly smirking and the underground pro tensed.

"Ripped out it's brain and chucked it across the court yard," Springtrap said and the detective paled. "Can't regenerate if the signals going nowhere."

"I-I see," the man said. "The reports said you phased through Shigaraki's next attack. How did you do that? That's not in your quirk registry."

"It was a surprise to me too," Springtrap huffed, still ticked off about the Glitchtrap situation. "I think it's a new part of my quirk. I call it 'glitching'."

Detective Naomasa nodded and wrote it down next to the fact that he could take multiple forms.

"Okay," he said as he gathered all his notes. "I think I'm done here. Thank you for your cooperation."

"No problem," Izuku said, now back in control. "Glad we could help. By the way, Cipher was making brownies. Stop by the kitchen if you want one."

"Thank you," the detective said smiling, thankful for the teen's hospitality. "I think I will."

Once the detective left, Nezu popped out of Aizawa's scarf, and Hitoshi yelped in his surprise.

"Good afternoon, students," Nezu said with an amused grin; he did so love startling people with this stunt. "I'm glad to see you're doing well!"

"We're just happy that everyone's okay," Hitoshi said once he had calmed down, and Izuku nodded his agreement.

"We all are," Aizawa said seriously and they all sat quietly in contemplation for a moment.

"Anyways," I wanted to speak to William," Nezu said. "I have news..."
