Chapter 46:
How to Fight your Dragon
Location: Opelucid City
The futuristic buildings and lights all surrounded me as I walked to the only old structure in Opelucid City; the Gym. The two dragons stood proud, though hopefully not as proud as they would when I have my showdown with N.
"Here we go," I said. This would prove me worthy of taking on the Pokémon League. The eighth Badge; was I to win it today?
Location: Opelucid City Gym
Well, what a surprise; this Gym wasn't… as dangerous as the ones that had come before it. You had to walk across what looked like slender Dragon types. Thankfully, you could see where you fell. I just hoped it wasn't straight up concrete. Last thing I wanted was to take on N with an arm sling.
"Yo, champ in the making!" said the Gym Guide, handing me Fresh Water. "The challenge here; break through Drayden's Dragon Type Pokémon. They are weak to… actually no. You've come so far, I'll let you figure it out. Good luck!"
This Gym was similar to Nimbasa City in that you needed to flick switches in order to gain access to the next platform.
I walked up the neck of a Dragon, and an Ace Trainer spotted me.
"Well, seems you've come to test your power against the power of Dragons. Can you though?"
Hilbert Vs. Ace Trainer Webster
"Samurott, go!" I shouted.
"I choose Fraxure!" Webster replied, just as Samurott's tail started to spout water.
"What's going on?" I said. "Wait, I know. Samurott, Aqua Tail!" Samurott whacked its tail onto Fraxure. It wasn't very effective, but it didn't matter! Samurott has a new move under its belt!
"Fraxure, Dragon Dance!" Fraxure started to dance about, raising its Speed and Attack. "Now Dragon Claw!" Fraxure swiped Samurott for quite a lot of damage.
"Revenge it!" Samurott punched Fraxure back. I had won!
"Keep battling like that, Drayden won't stand a chance!"
I walked along the Dragon and came across a switch. This raised the head of a Dragon and allowed me to go up to the next level. Another Ace Trainer spotted me.
"Woah! We're so high! Why did I agree to this?"
Hilbert Vs. Ace Trainer Olwen
"I choose Druddigon!" I shouted.
"Deino, go!" Olwen replied.
"Use Dragon Claw!" Druddigon swiped Deino for Super Effective damage.
"Counter with Dragon Pulse!" Deino fired a ball at Druddigon. It was Super Effective to.
"One more Dragon Claw!" Druddigon did one more swipe on Deino, finishing it.
"Okay, that's enough! I'm going back to ground level."
Well, that was all fine and good, but I'm sure you want to hear about THE battle. The rest of the battles the Trainers used the same Pokémon. Deino, Fraxure and Druddigon. So, let's get to the good stuff.
Drayden was waiting for me at the top of the Gym, on the giant stone Reshiram. I admit I was shaking a bit. If I lost I would have to lose two days before the confrontation.
"Ah, good you could finally make it. As you know, this will be your final Gym battle before you take on the Pokémon League, as well as the last one before you take on N. I'm sure you know he uses a Dragon Type, so this will be a test run of sorts. But it will also be your hardest challenge yet, so no going easy!"
Hilbert Vs. Gym Leader Drayden
"Fraxure, go!" Drayden yelled.
"I choose Excadrill!" I replied. "Use Earthquake!" Excadrill made the entire Gym shake. I was expecting Fraxure to fall, but it didn't.
"Dragon Tail!" Fraxure whacked Excadrill with its tail, and Excadrill was forced to switch back to me. Scrafty was sent out.
I was panicking and didn't think through anything. "Scrafty, High Jump Kick!" Scrafty leapt forward, but it missed and Scrafty crashed into a wall.
"Dragon Tail!" Fraxure whacked Scrafty with its tail, forcing yet another switch. Lampent was next.
"Okay, use Hex!" Lampent stared at Fraxure evilly. It almost finished it off.
"Assurance!" With Fraxure already damaged, it attacked Lamepnt. It almost finished it off. Fraxure has the Rivalry Ability, meaning that if it's going up against a Pokémon of the same gender, it does more damage. In this case, both Pokémon are male so it did more damage.
"Hex once more!" Lampent stared at Fraxure again, and it was finished.
"Druddigon, give a Legendary battle!" Out came Drayden's own Druddigon. "Night Slash!" Druddigon slashed Lampent, knocking it clean.
"Gothitelle, go!" I shouted, completely forgetting about Night Slash. "Use Future Sight!" Gothitelle started telling the future.
"Night Slash it!" Druddigon swiped at Gothitelle, almost dealing with it. Druddigon's Night Slash was stronger than any I had come across.
"Flatter!" Gothitelle started clapping for Druddigon. It raised its Special Attack, but also confused it. Thankfully Druddigon hurt itself. "Now use Psychic!" Gothitelle, using a mysterious energy, lifted up Druddigon then threw it against the wall.
"Night Slash!" Druddigon pulled through the confusion and swiped Gothitelle. It was finished. Druddigon couldn't celebrate for too long though; the Future Sight hit! It was hanging by a thread.
"Excadrill, go!" I shouted. "Slash!" Excadrill swiped at Druddigon. It fell, and Drayden was down to his last Pokémon.
"This will be a Legendary finisher. Go Haxorus!" Drayden shouted, sending out the same Pokémon that Zoroark transformed into back at the Lostlorn Forest.
Haxorus (オノノクス)
118
Dragon Type
Axe Jaw Pokémon
5'11" (1.8 m)
232.6 lbs (105.5 kg)
Their sturdy tusks will stay sharp even if used to cut steel beams. These Pokémon are covered in hard armor.
Axew -Lv 38- Fraxure -Lv 48- Haxorus
"Well, Cheren will be in for a treat when his Fraxure evolves. Okay Excadrill, Earthquake!" Excadrill made the entire Gym shake, but Haxorus jumped up just in time.
"Dragon Tail!" Haxorus hit Excadrill, and it went back. Samurott was put onto the field.
"Revenge!" Samurott punched Haxorus, though it didn't do a lot because Samurott hadn't took damage.
"Dragon Claw!" Haxorus ran over to Samurott and slashed at it.
"Revenge once again!" This didn't do much either.
"Dragon Claw!" This Dragon Claw was a Critical Hit. Samurott fell and fainted.
"Scrafty!" I replied. "We can do this!"
"Dragon Claw!" Druddigon slashed Scrafty across the face.
"Use High Jump Kick whilst it's in close range!" I yelled. Scrafty kicked Haxorus in the face. It did it with so much force that Haxorus went flying into the air. When it landed, Haxorus fainted.
"I… did it." I said. "I beat the final Gym in the Unova region!"
Drayden recalled Haxorus. "That's not all. You have proven yourself more than worthy of fighting N, but we knew that anyway. Here it is; the Legend Badge." He handed me the black Badge, and I put it in my Badge Case, now having all the slots full.
"I can't thank you enough," I said.
"I will also give you the TM for Dragon Tail. It's a move that forces a switch and does damage. Finally, since you have all the Badges, Pokémon of any level can now be traded to you. But your biggest challenge is yet to come; at the top of Victory Road lies the Pokémon League. You will take on the Elite Four, then the Champion. Beat the Champion, and you will be Champion of Unova."
All this was starting to overwhelm me; I needed to tell my friends.
Location: Opelucid City
"So shiny!" Bianca said, hopefully for the last time. Well, not hopefully. I loved it when she said that.
"So," Cheren said. "This means you're off to take on the League, right?"
I nodded my head.
"Now hold on!" Iris said. "You two will have both Badges hopefully within two days! I think you two should have another battle! Route 10, I want you to do so. But Cheren, take on Drayden first."
Cheren adjusted his glasses. "Will do."
At that point, there was a news cast on the television screen. "And for the weather, we please advise anyone living on Route 7 or in Mistralton City to stay indoors.. Tomorrow will be what is called a storm clash, possibly as a result between two Legendary Pokémon. Please do not attempt to brave this storm. Hey Ty, that means us to. Come on!"
Heck yeah, I'm doing the opposite!
I'll give Cheren his day tomorrow to beat Drayden so we can have another battle. But wow. All eight Badges. The Pokémon League will be tough, but that's what I'm excited about. With all that said though, I still haven't forgotten about N. But hey, I can have some storm chasing fun tomorrow!
