Chapter 47 – Info from Wedge
4 days had passed since Ines woke up and her lungs were almost 100% recovered. Right now there was almost no parasites in her system, and the doctor said she only want to send Ines home, when she was clean, which it would be in two more days max.
Right now she was in a seating position, with her back resting on the pillows, eating a blue milk cheese with hazelnuts, something she was craving since she woke up and Luke brought to her that morning.
Luke was laying on the bed next to her, with his left arm around her shoulders.
"So, what are you doing these days?" she asked him
"I spend my time at the Temple, in the archives"
"Any news?" she asked looking up at him
"Most of the archives were erase and rewrite by the emperor, which we know that would happened. He did try to make the Jedi the bad guys in the galaxy. If I only find the day they were purge, and what happened on that day."
"And do you think it would be in the Jedi archives? I'm sure the empire erase that babe."
Luke knew Ines could be right, but he had a gut feeling that he would find that answer there.
"It is a possibility. But I sense the answer are in those archives. Maybe some Jedi, hid that info in those archives"
"You think Ben or Master Yoda could do that?"
"I think if it was any of them, they should tell me by now, right?" he looked at her
"Well your father told you that they can't intervene in certain moments. He could tell you about the herb, but it had to be you, he just gave you an advice to hear the force. So maybe they can't tell you. You need to find by yourself"
Luke thought of that. She was not wrong.
"Do you know anything bout who did this?" she asked eating a slice of cheese
"Not yet. I want to make sure you are fine first. You are my first priority right now"
Ines smiled at her husband. The day after she woke up, Luke told her everything what happened and how she recovered. He saved hers and their baby lives. She was so lucky to have him.
"You save our lives, Luke. Literally." she said looking at him
"You and our baby are my world, but the force was on our side too."
"What did I do to deserve you?" she asked smiling
"Born" he replied, repeating the same answer she gave to him weeks ago when he gave her the engagement ring. Leaning down he kissed her.
At that moment Han and Chewie entered in the room.
"Jeez, not even here you guys can take your hands off each other?" Han said making Chewie replied at Han. "Oh you think that is beautiful? It is because of that, they don't feel ashamed to do this in front of everyone"
Luke and Ines were smiling. Good old Han.
"What is that?" Ines asked pointing to a bouquet of flowers he was carrying.
"This. It just a bouquet of flowers I bought for you, kid"
"Bought or stole from some garden"
Luke started to laughed at that. Only his wife to deal with Han like that, and he loved it.
"Look, kid" Han said getting closer to her pointing his finger at her, and then smiled "Don't scared us like that ever again" and he kissed Ines forehead, making her smile.
"A certain Jedi told me you cried"
"Me? That Jedi lied to you, I never cry. I got something in my eye" he winked at her "And by the way, what the hell are you eating?"
"Delicious blue milk cheese with hazelnuts. Want a slice?"
"No thank you, don't kill my appetite, which reminds me: do you want to have lunch with me and Wedge. We got some information"
Luke stood up and nod. Looking back at Ines he said:
"Will you be okay for a while?"
"I'm fine. Maybe I will take a small nap."
"If you need, you can call me anytime" he said pointing to her head, making her smile
"Yes sir" she giggle as he rest his right hand on her cheek and kiss her.
"I love you" he told her
"I love you more" she replied.
"I will be here after lunch" and kissing her again, he left with Han and Chewie, while Ines decided to rest her head back on the pillows and closed her eyes.
Once Luke left the room, he looked at R2
"R2, watch her for me"
The droid beep and stood at the entrance of Ines room.
In the medical care cantina:
Luke, Han, Chewie and Wedge were seating on one of the tables of the Hospital. They just had some lunch, talking about the past few days.
"Han told you had information about what happened on my wedding. Wedge please tell me you know something?"
Wedge nod
"Well I was talking to my girlfriend, yesterday about what happened that day. First we are glad that Ines recovered and everything is good now with her and the baby."
"Thanks. We actually received a lot of messages wishing a quick recover and thank goodness, she will be home in one day or two" Luke replied.
"But Wedge tell Luke what you told me" Han asked him and with a nod Wedge began
"Well, first we were scared for Ines and the baby. Everyone in the party was. When you left, caring Ines in your arms, nobody was in a mood to be there. But my girlfriend noticed that one the bartenders, left the place in a hurry. We didn't figure out why. And we didn't think about, when Lando told us the other day, when we came to say goodbye. He left to Bespin already!"
"Yes, he came here to say goodbye to us too" Luke remembered it.
"Well we asked about how was Ines and he told us, she was much better, that she was awake already. We didn't know what happened, that's when he told us that it was after Ines drank a Peppermint drink that was destined to you. It was after that information, that my girlfriend remembered the bartender as left right after Ines collapsed"
Chewie growled, making Han nod
"You are right Chewie. He was afraid that we figure it out he had something to do with it and ran away"
"Yes. It makes sense" Luke replied "But we still need to know who he was and why he did that. He clearly mention someone bought that drink for me. Meaning he was with the person face to face"
"But now where do we find him? He is not dumb to stay around, knowing we can recognize him." Han said looking at Luke "Maybe the Force can tell you where he is"
"That is not how the force works" Luke told him.
"Well I don't know about the force, but I know where he is" Wedge replied, making Luke and Han looked at him. Even Chewie spoke in a surprise tone.
"What?" Luke asked.
"Yesterday, I went with some Rogue pilots to the lower levels. You know they had great bars right there, and not every place in there means bad people"
Luke agreed. After all it was there he found the herb and thanks to that nice old Lady, he would never be able to save Ines and the baby.
"So we went to this quite famous bar. When I saw the bartender, it was the same guy that was on your wedding. I recognized him right away"
Han looked at Luke, but Chewie growled again, making Han nod
"Chewie just said there were two bartenders at the bar. How do we know the guy you saw, was the same who gave Luke the drink?"
"I thought about that too. That is why I asked to one of his colleagues if the bar borrow some of its employees to serve at a wedding a few days ago. The girl said yes. Two of them were on a wedding just a few days ago. Well there was only one wedding days ago that I remember: yours"
"Which bar did you see him?" Han asked
"That big bar right at the entrance of the lower levels: The Jurikae Bar"
"If it is at the entrance, we had to pass by every time we go to there. The person may had watched us the day I went with you and Chewie. Remember you said the Senate was suspicious of some Empire activity, that is why Leia ask you two to go there. It all ties together now" Luke said "Wedge I can't thank you enough for this information"
"Hey Luke, we went through a lot together. You and Ines are great friends. Of course I would help in anything I could. I wish I could give you a name, but I forgot to be honest"
"You did already a lot" Han replied, and look at Luke "How about we pay a visit tonight to that bar?"
"Maybe we should stay outside and wait for him to leave. We don't want to get a mess in someone's bar"
Han and Chewie agreed.
"You're right. What time to you want to go there?" Wedge asked
"You guys can meet me here around 2100 hours. I will stay here all day, eat something at the bar and then we meet around that hour"
And with a nod, the four friends stood up and head each one of them to their destiny.
Ines is almost fully recovered. Will Luke, Han, Chewie and Wedge, be able to know who tried to kill Luke and almost kill Ines and the baby?
