Jordan- 17
It was a bright sunny day in Chicago, Jordan was with everyone at the football stadium. Matt was there with some people from 51, almost all of intelligence was there, and Natalie was as well. Hank wasn't much for football; he stayed at the district doing some last minute work.
Jordan was tossing a football with Matt and Jay, she held the ball tight with both hands and threw it to Jay. The young detective had caught it.
"Nice throw Jo" Matt told the teen.
"Thanks Matt" Jordan replied, she had worn her brother's old Chicago Bears jersey.
"Don't tell her that too much Casey, her head will blow up" Jay teased.
Jordan had shot the detective a sarcastic look. "Ha ha very funny"
Kevin was struggling with the tv as Hailey brought over the sweet corn tamales. Jordan had gone over and took one with the other girls. Kelly told them to wait. The teen saw Kevin still struggling.
"Need some help Kev?" Jordan asked.
"No thanks baby girl" Kevin replied.
She sighed and started to try and fix the tv when Jay said something. Suddenly there was a commotion and they all had gone over, Kevin had kept Jordan back with him. The others were looking over a young male, he was seizing and Matt noticed blood on his leg. When Natalie pulled his pants leg up, his skin was covered in blood it had looked infected by something as most of his skin was gone.
Jordan hated being treated like a child, she was almost 18 dammit. She slipped away from Kevin to go see, she worked her way through the crowd when Jay kept her back.
"Don't look Jo" Jay advised her.
"Come on Jay, I'm not a kid anymore" Jordan protested.
"Trust me you don't wanna know"
She let out a frustrated sigh and when she caught a glimpse of the guy's leg, she had felt sick to her stomach. The young detective turned her away and shielded her from the sight.
"What the hell was that?" Her voice lowered.
"We don't know"
Everyone had gathered their stuff and headed for the hospital. Jordan couldn't get the picture out of her head. One of them had called Hank to let him know about the situation and meet them at the hospital.
Jordan sat down while the adults had talked to Will and Natalie about the guy, when they were finished Will had gone over to the teen.
"How ya doing sweetheart?" Will asked.
"My stomach is turning. What was wrong with his leg?" Jordan asked, feeling queasy.
"We don't know yet"
"I see why Jay told me to stay back"
Will pulled her in for a side hug and gave her a brotherly kiss on her head. "I'll bring you a bucket if you feel the need to get sick"
"Thanks Will"
"Anytime kiddo"
Hank had made it to the hospital he saw his daughter and ran to her, he grabbed her in a hug and held her. He quickly scanned her over for injuries.
"I'm fine dad, you don't have to worry about me" Jordan had told her father.
"Of course I have to worry about you" Hank replied back.
"I can't believe how it looked. It was so gross"
"I wish you had stayed put, you're still a kid"
"No I'm not dad. I'm almost 18, I'm almost an adult"
"You're still my kid"
Jay had pulled Hank to the side and told him what was going on. Just hearing what was going on, Hank didn't want Jordan being out there in public. The older father didn't want his little girl getting infected with this new strain of bacteria and dying.
Hank was gonna do everything in his power to keep his daughter close so she wouldn't get infected. After getting the update the older father had taken his daughter home for the day. The following day when Jordan had to go to school he was very nervous about having her go. He was normally wanting to send her. He never had her go unless there was a serious situation going on, like this.
"Dad I have to go to school, I have like two tests today. I have my finals soon. I have to go in order to graduate"
Jordan was a few months shy of graduating high school and starting the next chapter in her life. She didn't want anything to slow her down. As much as Hank didn't want her going he had to let her, he couldn't hold her back from going.
"Alright, if anything and I mean the smallest thing happens you call me"
"I will dad, I promise"
The older father had hugged his daughter tight and kissed her head, Jordan had hugged her father back just as tight. The whole new scare going on has Jordan rattled but she wouldn't show it. She kept a straight face.
The school day had quickly passed, Jordan left as she was walking and she noticed a part of the street was blocked off by crime scene tape. An ambulance was there, CSU, Medical examiner, and the teen had spotted Jay. Jay shook his head the current victim they had found was a teenage boy around Jordan's age along with his parents.
What killed Jay, the boy they found, Mason. He was Jordan's current boyfriend. Things hadn't worked out between Derek and Jordan. Mason was the first guy Jordan had feelings for since Derek. She had fallen for Mason hard.
When she saw what house they were at her heart dropped she felt as if she was gonna throw up, the teen ran under the tape and to Jay the officers had tried to keep her back. The detective looked and saw the teen. This was going to kill her.
"Guys, it's ok, she's with me" Jay told them.
They let her go and Jordan ran to him, she grabbed him gripping his wrists tightly. One thing Jay knew, doing notifications never got any easier. It would always be the hardest part of the job. He was about to break when he saw the pleading look on her face.
"Jay… tell me it's not Mason," Jordan pleaded, her voice cracking.
"Jordy" Jay said softly, he was the only other person allowed to call her that.
When Jordan heard the nickname, she knew either Erin or Jay used it when they were breaking bad news or they tried to comfort her.
"No...Jay please no"
"Jordy, I'm so sorry. Mason...he...He didn't make it"
"No!" Jordan fell to her knees screaming and crying.
Jay tried to catch her and hold her up, her knees were weak. "I'm so so sorry sweetie"
"No no no no it can't be" She sobbed. "He was just fine yesterday morning and now..he..he"
"Shh shh, come on, let's get you to your dad"
Jay knew something like this would break Jordan and the first and best thing to do, get Jordan to her father. In the car Jay looked at the teen.
"I know now's not the time you need questions but I need to know. Did you do anything with Mason? Have you been around him at all today"
She shook her head. "He never showed up at school, I thought he was sick or something"
The young detective had sighed in relief softly, he didn't know he was holding one in. He started driving. Jordan cried the whole way, when they got to the district the young detective helped her inside. The teen shook from head to toe. She felt like she was on the verge of a relapse. It was slowly coming back to her, it was coming but slowly but rapidly. Jay brought her inside and upstairs, Hank heard crying. His ears perked when he heard his daughter. Jay took Jordan's backpack as she ran to her father she crashed into him and cried into his chest.
Slowly Hank wrapped his arms around his daughter and began comforting her, he looked to Jay. His eyes asking the million dollar question of why Jordan was crying.
'Mason's dead' He mouthed.
The older father sighed sadly and soothed his daughter the best he could. He had taken her home for the evening. Jordan was mentally exhausted. She went to bed early and forgot about her homework.
As she slept the teen began tossing and turning frantically, before she knew she had let out a high pitched cry. Hank was in the living room and ran upstairs to his daughter's room when he got there, Jordan was awake and had her back against the headboard sobbing. He had gone to her.
He wrapped his arms around her carefully and gently, the upset teen felt familiar arms around her and looked to see her father.
"Daddy" Was all she could cry.
"It's alright sweetheart, I promise. It's gonna be alright"
"I...I saw...you...you had the infection and...it...it killed you"
"No baby, I'm fine. I'm alright"
"Stay. Please"
"I'm not going anywhere"
Hank meant it. He had stayed with his daughter all night, it was a very long night indeed. Jordan was up every half hour to an hour crying. She and her father had barely slept at all. Hank had to go into work, he knew he couldn't leave his daughter alone. Not in her fragile state.
Once Jordan woke up, she moved slow like a zombie. A blank emotionless look in her eyes. Tears pricked threatening to spill once again. Her cheeks had dried tear stains on them. She just grabbed her bag and went downstairs. Hank had gotten off with Mouch, he said he could watch her at 51. He looked to see his daughter.
"You alright sweetheart?"
She simply shook her head. Hank had gotten worried the last time Jordan had shut down like this it wasn't pretty, he didn't want his daughter falling again. Carefully he brought her out to the car and helped her in, getting in the driver seat he started to drive.
"I'm gonna leave you at 51 with Mouch, alright sweetheart"
All she did was nod, the same blank emotionless look in her eye. Hank had let out a sad sigh, he was already slowly losing his daughter. The older father hoped that she just wouldn't fall and relapse again. After a short drive he had arrived at 51, Hank had guided his daughter inside.
Casey and Kelly had seen him and Jordan, when they saw Jordan they had gotten concerned when they went over.
"Hank, Jo, everything ok?" Casey asked.
Like with her father Jordan shook her head to them, she walked by them. Hank looked saddened to see her like this.
"Her boyfriend, Mason died from this bacteria strain. Guys, please whatever you do, don't let Jordan go anywhere. In her state she can relapse" Hank told them quietly.
The two men felt saddened, Jordan always got a sucker punch in life. She could never catch a break.
"We'll watch her Hank, you have our word" Casey reassured the worried father.
"We'll keep a good eye on her," Kelly told him.
"Thank you"
Inside the firehouse Jordan was just about to burst into tears again, she had sat on the couch next to Mouse pulling her legs closed to her chest.
"Jo, honey, you alright?" Mouch asked his goddaughter.
She shook her head as fresh tears started to fall, they wanted to ask her what was wrong but didn't wanna upset her anymore. They had turned the tv on and it was breaking news about the virus, when they showed Mason's picture Jordan couldn't take it and burst into tears and ran to the bunk area.
"I take it why she's upset," Herrmann said.
"Why?" Gallows asked.
"That kid was her boyfriend"
"I hope this doesn't cause her to relapse" Sylvie said sadly.
Ritter, Gallows, and Emily all looked worried and concerned when she said that.
"What are you talking about?" Emily asked.
"After Jordan's brother died, she spiraled out of control. Bad"
"Poor kid drank, did drugs, self harmed. She almost died from it. Losing her brother just about killed her" Mouch continued.
The three were just about shocked. Before someone could go check on the teen the alarm bells had gone off for a structure fire. They couldn't leave Jordan alone, but they also couldn't take her to a fire. If she had gotten hurt or anything happened, Hank would go through the roof.
"Chief, we can't leave Jordan alone" Mouch told Boden. "Not in her state"
"Um guys, Jordan's not here" Cruz told them, coming from the bunk area looking for the teen.
Meanwhile
Jordan had slipped out the back door of the firehouse, she was still good at sneaking out and around even in the worst conditions she was in. She felt as if she was being smothered by people. The teen hated it, she needed to be along to gather her thoughts to grief and to clear her mind.
Another person she loved was gone just like that. Was she cursed? Was there some force or something that didn't want her to be happy? Why was this happening to her? What had she done to deserve this? So many questions but little to no answers.
As she walked she saw a dealer selling, to her surprise it was one of her old dealers she used to score from. Her mind had started to fight and it fought hard. She wanted something, anything to take away the pain but on the other hand she really wanted to keep her sobriety in place. She fought hard. The teen felt the temptation grow, it was coming back to her. One taste shouldn't hurt, right?
No! She couldn't, she wouldn't throw three years of sobriety down the drain. 3 years of being clean. 3 years of being sober. She was damn proud of that, reaching into her pocket she had pulled out her 3 year chip and twirled the gold coin around between her fingers. Looking back at the dealer she shook it off and continued to walk.
Her phone started to ring, she knew the guys at 51 would know she's gone, it must have been her father or one of the others. Pulling her phone out it was Jay. Sighing, she answered the phone.
-I'm fine, I just went for a walk. I need to clear my head.
-Where are you? Jay replied.
-Jay please, I need to be alone right now. I want to be alone.
-Jordy, whatever you're thinking don't do it. Just tell me where you are. I'll come get you and we can talk about this.
-I'm taking a walk. Please leave me alone.
After that she hung up and cut her phone off. As she continued to walk she found herself in front of a bar she went inside. She sat on the far end of the bar and the bartender went to her.
"Can't be in here kid, I'll get shut down"
"I'm 21, I'm short for my age" Jordan replied, emotionless.
"Got ID?"
Thankfully that morning she grabbed one of her fake ID's from her father's safe., she pulled it out and gave it to him. He took it inspecting it, he nodded giving it back to her.
"What can I get you?"
She pulled her 3 year chip out and slid it to him and he grabbed it. "3 years, from someone as young as you?"
"Yes"
"What's your poison?"
"Whiskey"
He got 3 shot glasses out and poured the liquid in the glasses, Jordan then just stared at them as if they were taunting her. If she even took just one that would be it 3 years down the drain.
Instead she had gotten up and walked around the bar. What she didn't notice was one of the customers was sick with the infection. She rounded the bar and made it to the small entrance to the back of the bar. Looking down she picked up the bat. The bartender saw her.
"You can't be back here"
Without a single word Jordan raised her arms and as hard as she could she swung the bat hitting all the alcohol on the shelf breaking and busting them up. Glass shattering and her screaming was the only thing that could be heard.
"Woah what the hell are you doing?!"
Walking to the other shelf the teen had done the same thing screaming and crying till her throat was raw. The bartender was just about on the floor.
"It's people like you that wanna take advantage of us who's trying to make our lives better. Some people who want to move on from the grief and pain. Some people wanna be happy, be married to their loved ones, some kids just wanna be kids again, some kids don't wanna grow up so fast but they still did!"
Jordan swung the bat again breaking more bottles of liquor and the glass mirrors, she went around and grabbed her chip from the bowl and put it back in her pocket. She then proceeds to destroy the bar and take a harder swing where her 3 shots of whiskey were. A small piece of glass had gotten embedded in her palm. The sick customer had gone to her trying to take the bat the teen fought and pulled back.
Blood had soon covered the bat and it was covering Jordan's hands, she finally managed to get the bat back and the customer grabbed her trying to fight. The teen was trying to fight back hard.
Eventually patrol came in and broke it up, when they saw the customer fall and he was covered in blood they carefully inspected him and saw the bacteria. Looking to Jordan they saw her covered in the same blood. They weren't taking any chances and called for two ambulances.
"Can I call my dad?" Jordan asked if she was gonna die. She wanted her last words to be to her father.
"Who's your father?" The cop asked.
"Sergeant Hank Voight, Intelligence unit. District 21"
"You can call him at the hospital"
Jordan was loaded up and taken to Med. Will had just gotten Hailey put in quarantine when he saw the young Voight.
"Oh no" Will muttered. He ran over, he saw the blood all over. "Jo what happened"
"I wanna talk to my dad"
"I'll call him but you've gotta tell me what happened"
"I was in a bar I swear it's not what you think, I busted up some stuff. Some dude tried to pull me away and got blood all over me. Will. If I'm gonna die, I wanna see my dad. My last words should be to him"
"You're not gonna die sweetheart, not on our watch"
"Just call my dad please. I really want my dad"
"We'll get him here"
"Will...If I die before my dad gets here. Can you just tell him I love him and he was the best father ever"
"Jo no, don't think that way"
"After Justin I was ready to die, to be with him and my mom again. But I couldn't leave my dad. If I die this time. Promise me you, Jay, everyone will look after him. My dad needs someone to look after him and take care of him. Promise me Will"
Will had felt tears running down his face, Jordan felt as if she was already giving up. It was as if she didn't wanna try. She was just done.
"Will" Jordan's voice cracked. "You promise me you, Jay and everyone will look after my dad if anything happens to me. Please. I need to know he'll be ok when I'm gone. Please Will"
"Jordan" He cracked up, how could she just give up like this? Jordan had become his and Jay's little sister they never had. "I...I can't"
"Will please! I'm begging you. Promise you guys will watch over him for me. Promise me"
What the young doctor wouldn't do to rip his heart out right now, hearing her beg and plead was pulling at his heart strings. He couldn't make that promise. He had to save her. He just had to.
"I'm gonna save you and you'll be able to go home and be with him"
