A/N: Hello, my beautiful babies. How are we? Better than me, I hope. I'm a little sleepy. Rough night, but I got a Monster here and a quiet house right now. Probably a nap in the afternoon coming, though. At least I hope so. But anyway, here. Have a chapter. And, uh…In case you didn't pick up on it from the end of last week's…This could be a little spicy. Keep some water nearby.
Light could claim their trip to Odaiba was for L all he wanted, but in all honesty, they both needed to unwind. After their misadventures in London, a little time away, just the two of them, would do them both wonders. Then again, so would the number of a good therapist, but that's here nor there. But the moment they got to the hotel, L had already started to decompress. He balled up in Light's hip, content with the world.
"Hey, Light…?" L spoke meekly, his eyes slowly getting heavier.
"Hm?" Light rested his hand on the back of L's head, his fingers tangled up in his hair.
"Thank you…" L melted, reveling in Light's gentle touch, "This was a good idea."
"I know you," Light kissed L's forehead, "And I know you better than you think I do. Granted, at first, it was a little difficult to pick up on your rhythms, but once we clicked together, it was like riding a bike."
"Still," L held back a little yawn, "You know what else sounds like a good idea?"
"What?"
"Ice cream," L sat up, "I want ice cream. I want some now and I don't mean maybe. I mean, if I don't get some in the next ten minutes, I'm killing someone."
"Alright, alright," Light pushed himself up from their couch. Bless your metabolism, "There's a place down the street. A stand, at the very least. But…"
"But?" L grew curious, "What do you mean, but?"
"There is a place," Light explained, "It has a cooler that stretches the width of the building. But I'm sure you wouldn't want to go…"
"That one," L didn't even hesitate, "That's the one we go to. Like I said, Light, if we don't go in the next ten minutes, someone's dying. Given that you're the only one in my near proximity, you'd be the prime target. I love you and I don't want to kill you tonight, so the best option here is to get me some fucking ice cream."
"I love you, too," Light snuck in one last kiss and pulled L to his feet, "Alright. Let's go get some ice cream."
L and Light left the hotel and took a little walk down the street. Sure enough, the promised land awaited them. The second L stepped foot into the ice cream shop, his eyes lit up in a way that Light had never seen before. And Light couldn't be happier. Really? It's ice cream. It's just ice cream. Is it really that exciting to you? Then, Light remembered exactly who he was dealing with. Yes. Yes, it is, in fact, that exciting.
But L tuned everything and everyone out. Light wasn't joking. It's from one end to the other. If only you were bottomless. When L came to again, he looked up at the sign, hoping an unlimited option would be available. But alas. Damn. Still…There are flavors in here I never even knew existed. Who the hell would put cherry blossoms in ice cream? Although, in hindsight, cherry blossoms and a light milk chocolate sounds kind of good.
"L?" Light nudged him out of his ice cream induced trance, "Are you still in there?"
"Yes, yes," L brushed him off, "I'm…fine. I need a double scoop of rocky road."
"Really?" Light teased him, "Of all the flavors in this cooler. I specifically took you here because of the more exotic flavors and yet, you settle on rocky road?"
"I'm a creature of habit, Light," L reminded him, gladly taking his order from over the case, "Thank you. You really shouldn't have expected anything different."
"Even you can still catch me by surprise from time to time," Light giggled to himself, "I know you, but I don't know everything."
"And we'll keep it that way for as long as we can," L stuck his spoon in his mouth, happy as a clam.
"Why don't we go sit down?" Light brought him over to a quiet, secluded table.
"Aren't you getting anything?"
"No," Light shook his head, "I could use a soda, though. Stay here. I'll be right back."
"Ok," L didn't care where Light was going. He knew he'd be back. And he had his ice cream. He gave not one care in the world. L played on his phone, waiting for Light to come back, making sure he wasn't missing anything. Really and truly, Light. Thank you. I needed this more than you know. When I sat on the wall at the Chelsea Embankment, I could've fallen in and not felt a thing. Let the Thames take me. I could think of worse ways to go. But I had you. I didn't want to leave you here all on your own. You don't deserve that. I need you and you need me.
"L?" Light sat back down, "Where were you?"
"What?"
"I've been here for the last five minutes," Light nudged him under the table, "Are you ok?"
"Yeah," L nodded, shaking off his time in London, "I'm fine."
Light couldn't wipe the smile off his face. Because he knew what came next. No time like the present, "Hey…L?"
"Yes, Light?" L caught Light's finger in the melted puddle of his ice cream. The fuck do you think you're doing?
"I…" Without hesitation, L stuck Light's index finger into his mouth, getting every last drop of ice cream. That's. Mine. And without knowing it, L completely caught Light off guard, "What the hell was that all about?"
"I didn't know if you were going to get that or not," L shrugged.
"I could've just gotten napkins."
"I like my way better," L went back to his ice cream. If you wanted some, you could've asked nicely. Or got your own, "You wanted to tell me something?"
"I…" Light was still in shock over his finger. Until he realized he was a man on a mission, "I have a little present for you."
"Acetone…"
"What?" Light looked at him strange.
"You didn't wash your hands good enough after your manicure," L pointed out, "I was wondering why the chocolate tasted weird. Either that or the acetone your nail tech used was a little strong. Anyway, go on."
"I have a present for you," Light bit the inside of his cheek.
"You don't need to give me presents, Light," L reminded him, "You know better. And I'm the one that gives you surprises, not the other way around. I thought we learned that last time."
"You weren't expecting Odaiba," Light retaliated, "But I didn't hear you complaining then."
"The last surprise you gave me was that note," L smiled a bit, "And if you're not careful, we may act on that one day."
"What?" Light sipped on his soda, "Me blowing you under your desk while you're working?"
"While the task force is there," L pictured it vividly in his head, "And you only get to come back out when everyone leaves for lunch."
"I'll think about it," Light joined him. Thoughts of the Odaiba ferris wheel ran through his head. And the London Eye. And then, Mello's words. Yeah. I don't think I'm as vanilla as Mello seems to think I am. I wouldn't exactly say no to that.
"So," L wondered, "What kind of present do you have for me, Light?"
"One that I know you'll want," Light stayed relatively cryptic.
"What is it?"
"No, no, no," Light played with his straw, "It's not going to be that easy. It's a surprise. And you have to figure out what it is. If you're the top three detectives in the world, a little puzzle should be nothing for you."
"Really?" L looked at Light strange, "This is how you're going to play this?"
"Yep."
"Well…" L held back a smirk on his face, "I can't solve a puzzle without any clues, Light. You have to give me something to go from, otherwise I'm just pulling answers from thin air."
"Alright," Light thought it over for a moment or two. He wants a clue, but I can't give it away. Everything seems too obvious. But then, he found something. This is going to be fun, "I got it here. And you already have it. In a way."
"Hm…" L gnawed on the side of his thumb. I already have it? Then, what would be the point in giving it to me? And how could you have gotten it here? We just got back, "Is it a physical object?"
"Nope," Light kept his mouth shut, "I'm not giving you any more hints, L. You got your hints from me. Everything else has to be from your great deductive reasoning."
"This isn't me asking for a hint," L retaliated, "This is more so investigation. Now, is it or is it not a physical object?"
You're fucking adorable. Light melted a little inside, "I'll respect the loophole. It involves a physical object. And if you don't figure this out by the time we get back to the hotel, you don't get it."
"Fair enough," L nodded. Alright, you little minx. What have you been up to? As far as I know, you've been in London with me. But…Does this mean you were setting things up while we were in London? No. There's no way. You're a forward thinking man, Light, but I don't think you're that forward thinking. You couldn't have known what was going to happen in London. You couldn't have that kind of foresight. But at the same time, your intuition is like none I've ever seen. And then, you had the audacity to bring me to Odaiba…And an idea started to form in L's head, "Are we going to the ferris wheel tonight?"
"We can," Light got up from his chair, finishing off his soda, "Are you done? You want to go to the ferris wheel?"
"Yes, please," L took Light's hand and the two of them left the ice cream shop. The Odaiba Ferris Wheel was only a few blocks down and they could both stand the walk. But the entire walk drove L crazy. What the hell could you possibly have gotten me, Light? I know when my accounts get used. I don't quite have a tap on yours yet, but I figure we could leave a little bit of mystery in our relationship. And I have a feeling you'd get pissed about something like that. You could barely handle me paying off your tuition.
The entire ride up the ferris wheel was quiet. Although, it meant Light getting to cuddle up with L, so neither one of them were complaining. But L still couldn't quite figure out what waited for him. Could it be waiting for us back in the room? "Light…"
"What?" Light made himself comfortable, his head on L's shoulder.
"Did you get me more strawberries again?" L crossed his fingers. Those last ones were amazing. I wouldn't be mad about that.
"No," Light giggled a bit, "It's not strawberries."
Then, what the hell would it be? L went back to his mental drawing board, shooting a quick glance to the angel at his side. This could be going one of two ways. Either you have absolutely no idea what you're doing to me, Light, or you know exactly what you're doing. And you're loving every second of this. I didn't have you pegged as a sadist. A little bit of a masochist, yes, but a full on sadist? Not really. I already have it…But it's a physical object…and it's not strawberries. And he's obviously not blowing me here. London was a pleasant surprise. I'll take that again.
"You're not giving me any more clues, are you, Light?" L assumed.
"Like you said," Light pointed out, "It's not me giving you clues when you're asking me questions. Then, it's investigation. That's ok."
"Ok," L liked the sound of that, "It's a physical object?"
"Yes." He's completely clueless. For being the world's greatest detective three times over, I really did think this would be easier for him to figure out. I told him everything he needed to know. I told him what I did before we left. I thought that would've been a big enough tip for him. And then, he even noticed the taste of acetone on my hands. I could've sworn I washed all of that off my hands. I will when we get back to the room.
"Where would I be most likely to put it?"
Interesting. I can think of a few places you'd like to put it. The couch in our apartment. A plane seat next to you on a trip to London. Our bedroom. Our kitchen counters. The roof of the task force headquarters. Behind a 7-Eleven dumpster, "I can't tell you that."
"Why not?" L shot him a glare.
"Because," Light settled him, "It'd give too much away."
"And is this something I'd get for myself?"
"Absolutely." And you'd go through great lengths to get this for yourself. If anyone would know that, it'd be…Well…You know.
"Really?" L thought a little harder. And came to his conclusion, "Light…I love you, but it's too early in our relationship for that."
"Really?" Light looked at him strange. Why do I have a feeling we're not on the same page?
"Really," L nodded, "It's too early for us to even consider getting a dog. That's one of those things that we have to wait until after the investigation for."
"It's not a dog," Light laughed, "Trust me. It's not a dog."
"Oh." It's not that I'd say no to one. I wouldn't mind us getting one together, but not now. It's too early for that kind of commitment, "Then, if I already have it, where did I get it?"
"Here," Light told him as their ride came to an end.
"Here…" L was still at a loss. And slightly reeling over the unfortunate conclusion that not only was he wrong, but it wasn't Light bringing home a dog, "Did I have it in London?"
"Yes," Light confirmed, getting the door to their carriage, "But not at this particular capacity."
"Alright," L took Light's hand and the two of them began their trip back to their hotel. I have it already. I had it in London, but not at the capacity Light's giving it to me. And it's not a dog, unfortunately. What the hell would you be giving me? As much as L didn't want to admit it, he was at a total loss. And it only got worse as they got closer to the hotel.
"So?" Light asked, "Do you have any guesses?"
"No," L stared down at the ground, "I have nothing. Not even the slightest. You're a very cryptic creature when you want to be, Light Yagami. And I don't know how to feel about that."
"No final guesses?" Light and L got into the elevator and took it up to their room.
"No…" But then, like a slap to the face, L started connecting dots. Because the little smirk on Light's face was the final clue he needed. I can't believe I didn't see it. It was practically in front of my face the whole time. In this case, quite literally, "Light…"
"Yes?" Light felt around his pockets for their room key and stuck it in the door.
"Can I ask you one more question?"
"Go ahead," Light pushed the door open.
"Did you just get a manicure when you left?" L asked, his heart ready to jump out of his chest in pure excitement.
"No," Light shook his head, "I got a pedicure, too. It was a long trip to London. It was nice to relax a little bit before we came here."
"What else did you do…?" The little smirk on Light's face said everything L needed to hear. And if that didn't say it enough, Light's walk toward the bedroom screamed it, "What else did you do, Light?"
He figured it out. Light wasn't stopping. Light wasn't even looking at him anymore. Light wouldn't acknowledge L's existence. Not until he followed him. You know exactly what I did. I'm just waiting for you to see it. L happily chased after Light into their bedroom and noticed something shiny hanging on the bedpost. But Light sat at the edge of the bed, playing innocent, "Did you figure it out yet?"
"I love you, Light," L jumped onto the bed, "I love you so much."
"I love you, too," Light fell next to him. L pulled Light's face closer to his, kissing him violently.
"I've been wanting this since we touched down in London," L confessed, his breathing getting heavier, "I wanted to do this in my bed…"
"What do you think?" Light got on top of L, kissing down his neck, "Good surprise?"
"Damn good surprise," L approved, "Are we really doing this?"
Light got in L's ear, whispering softly, "Check the drawer."
L clumsily felt around for the nightstand with one hand while his other rested comfortably in the middle of Light's lower back. When he pulled the drawer out, he stuck his hand inside, feeling a couple different bottles and foiled packages. Which only led to L flipping Light back down onto the bed, "I love you, Light."
"I love you," Light swooned. Alright. You did say you weren't bottoming, "Hey…Let me up."
"Where the fuck do you think you're going?" L growled, halfway through taking his clothes off already.
"I'll be right back," Light gave him one more kiss, "I promise. Just the bathroom. I won't be gone long."
"You better not be gone long," L grinned, watching Light walk away. I'm going to absolutely destroy you tonight, Light. My patience is wearing thin already.
Light walked into the bathroom and got the water in the sink running. I can't believe we're finally doing this. I mean, I know if he would've had his way, L would've had me naked ages ago. Even if it were just to satisfy the curiosity. But he's had a hard trip to London. He needs to be able to go back to the task force relaxed. Otherwise, they're going to know something happened. And then, they'll be asking me all the questions about it. Because god forbid someone sets L off. Light knew the whole task force walked on eggshells around L. And he understood why, despite it being totally unnecessary. With most things anyway. Light took one last look in the mirror, his heart skipping a beat. We're really going to do this, aren't we?
Light wiped his hands on one of the towels in the bathroom and went back to the bedroom. Although, just as he had himself hyped up, he noticed L naked and balled up on the bed. Dammit, jet lag. Now, I understand why he was so spacy. As much as Light was thrilled to finally get to see what sex with L was like, he knew that L was human. Not that I'm disappointed, but I'm tired, too. One of us was bound to fall asleep eventually. Light tossed his clothes in the same pile L's were in and cuddled up next to him. As if it were out of reflex, L curled into Light's chest, still sleeping soundly. Light knew better. I don't need to wake the baby, but this is alright, too. Light pressed a gentle kiss on L's forehead and grabbed his phone to snap a quick selfie. That's a keeper. Besides, there's always breakfast, right?
