Chapter 47: Anniversary Surprises
It's the first week of June, meaning that May is 12 weeks pregnant. Kiara finished her senior year of high school today.
And 3 days after then is Drew's birthday which May is really excited for.
Drew woke up and sat up. May smiled at him. "Happy birthday, Drew!"
Drew looked at May and smiled. "Thank you."
"So, Drew, today I'll be taking your place."
"Mm hm." Drew hummed, getting out of bed. He walked to the closet.
"I think it's about time that I repay you for taking my place when I was sick that one time, you know?"
"Yeah." Drew said, changing clothes.
"And we'll be going out at dinner time. You'll get a special birthday dinner on me."
Drew poked his head out of the closet. "Are you asking me on a date?"
May blushed. She smiled shyly. "I guess I am…"
Drew smiled and went back inside the closet. "That sounds great, March. And I know you'll be amazing at ruling on your own for today." He finished changing clothes and he put his crown on before exiting the closet. "You know...I could always be there with you on the thrones if you want…"
May shook a head. "Of course I want you there...but today's your birthday. You deserve a day off like I did."
Drew held out his hand to May. She took it and he pulled her off the bed onto her feet. "I guess I'll see you later then."
May nodded. "Don't worry about the kingdom. It's in good hands."
Drew smiled and gave May a peck on the lips. "I know it is. You're the better ruler after all."
May smiled shyly. "Do you really think that?"
Drew nodded. "You've been royal all your life, unlike me. Now go on and be amazing."
May smiled and slipped her hand out of Drew's. She walked to the door and blew a kiss to Drew before leaving the room.
The rest of the day went great. May ruled alone so Drew could have a small break for his birthday. They both went out for dinner, and Drew's birthday went well for the whole day.
It's the first week of July, meaning that May is 16 weeks pregnant.
The two royal guards at the large doors of the Throne Room opened them for Drew. Drew entered the Throne Room and went to May, who is sitting on her throne. He leaned down and placed a kiss on her forehead.
Backing away, Drew said, "Happy anniversary."
May smiled. "Happy anniversary to you too."
Drew sat on his throne, both of them looking at each other. "I have a special surprise planned for you today." Drew said.
"That sounds sweet, Drew. I can't wait." May said. "And umm...I actually have something to tell you later as well."
"Really? What's that?"
"I'll tell you later."
"Why not now?"
"Because it'll be easier to tell you...not here."
Drew didn't bother asking further questions. He knows that May will tell him later, and he doesn't have to know now. But he is curious about what May wants to tell him.
"Okay then." Drew said. "I'll wait."
Drew noticed someone standing off to the side behind May. It was Dahlia. She seemed to be telling Drew to come with a motion of her hand and arm.
Drew looked at May. "I...need to go check on how your surprise is coming along, okay?"
"Okay." May said.
Drew stood up and kissed May on her cheek. He smiled at her. "I'll be back soon." With that said, he walked over to Dahlia and they exited the room through the side entrance.
"So, how is everything going?" Drew asked.
"Great." Dahlia answered. "Your picnic basket is filled with everything you requested."
"Good. May always loves going to our special date spot, so hopefully that will be a good anniversary date for her."
"I'm sure she'll love it. Would you like some of the maids to set up the picnic for you?"
"No. That's okay." Drew said. "May and I promised each other that we'd never tell anyone where our date location is. So I'll handle it. How is the cake coming along?"
"Come see for yourself." Dahlia said.
They walked to the kitchen on the first floor. All of the chefs noticed that Drew entered and they all ran to him and bowed.
"Your Majesty." The head chef said. They stood up straight. "What brings you here?"
"I just want to check on the cake." Drew said.
"Of course. Right this way." The chef led Drew further inside the kitchen.
The rest of the chefs got busy making Drew's cake. Drew and the head chef stopped at a counter.
"King Drew, how does the frosting taste?" The chef asked.
Drew dipped his finger into a bowl of pink frosting and he put the finger in his mouth, tasting the frosting. He took his finger out and looked at the chef.
"It tastes great." Drew said.
"Thank you, Your Majesty." Chef said. "And we'll make the rose design on the cake look perfect."
Drew smiled. "Sounds good. When the cake is finished, Dahlia will come and pick it up." With that said, he and Dahlia left the kitchen.
May and Drew are at their secret date spot at 9 at night when it's dark out. They're at the gazebo. Drew is setting up the picnic while May has her eyes closed upon his request.
"Hey Drew? Can I open my eyes yet?" May asked.
"Not yet." Drew said.
"...how about now?"
Drew looked up at May. He smirked and looked back down, setting out a bowl of chocolate-covered strawberries. "Still no."
"Well...how about...now?"
Drew chuckled. He looked at May. "Sure."
May opened her eyes and saw Drew on the picnic blanket. She sees a vase of red roses, there are tiny candles around the blanket, and the small snacks are in the center of the blanket. But what she's really excited to eat are the strawberries of course. She also sees a white box next to Drew and she wonders what's inside of it. But she'll just wait for him to reveal it later.
"Drew...it looks so romantic." May said.
"What did you expect from your husband?" Drew questioned rhetorically.
May smiled and sat down on the opposite side of the picnic blanket than Drew. She stared down at the bowl of strawberries.
Drew saw what May was staring at and he chuckled. He took out a strawberry and held it out in front of May's mouth. "Ahh." Drew said, telling May to open her mouth.
"Ahh." May opened her mouth. Drew moved the strawberry into her mouth and she bit down. Drew pulled his arm back, holding the remains of the strawberry.
"How is it?" Drew asked.
May swallowed. "Strawberries always taste good."
Drew smiled and held out the half eaten strawberry to May again. "I'm glad."
May ate the rest of the strawberry. "Mmm…" she swallowed. "Drew, you always plan the perfect picnics."
Drew started eating strawberries himself. "Strawberries make a picnic perfect?"
May smiled brightly. "Yep!"
Drew laughed a little. "Well, I'm glad you like this anniversary picnic. I was a little worried that it wouldn't be enough."
May started eating the food as well. "Enough for what?
"Enough to please you. I mean...we've had a picnic here several times. I was thinking that you might've actually wanted to go somewhere new for our date today."
May smiled. "Drew, as long as I'm with you it doesn't matter where you take me. I'm happy going wherever with you."
Drew smiled. "That means a lot."
After a few long moments of silence and eating, May stopped eating to speak.
"Drew...I told you that I have to tell you something during our date, remember?"
"Mm hm."
"Well...I guess I'll tell you now."
Drew stopped eating and looked at May to wait for what she had to say.
May is feeling extremely nervous right now. She wants to tell him that she's pregnant, but she's too scared for what his reaction would be like. What if he doesn't want a baby yet? What if he says that he's not ready to be a dad? What if he leaves May to take care of the baby herself?
"Uhh...May? Don't you want to tell me something?" Drew asked.
May looked down. "Umm...yeah. I-I...w-we…" she struggled to tell Drew. This is so nerve-racking! Does Drew want kids? What if he just gets mad at May for getting pregnant, even though it's not her fault?
May could remember all the way back to when they got married. Drew had said, as one of his vows, that he promises to be the best father he could be to their kids one day. He promised. And he said that, so does that mean he's ready though? What if he thinks it's too soon to start their family together?
May felt Drew's hand on hers. She looked at their hands on the blanket and then she looked up at Drew. He had a worried look on his face.
"Hey...is everything okay?" Drew asked.
"D-Drew…" May stuttered. "I-I…"
"What do you have to tell me?" Drew asked.
May didn't respond. She just frowned and looked down.
Drew held May's hand and tightened his grip on it. "What's wrong?"
"Y-you might not...like what I have to say."
"May, look at me." Drew said as he lifted up May's chin with his free hand. May is now staring into Drew's eyes. "I'll like whatever you say."
"Y-you promise you won't be mad at me?"
"I promise."
"Even though...what I have to tell you will change our lives forever?"
Drew thought for a moment. Their lives will be changed forever?
"Yes, May." Drew answered. "It doesn't matter that our lives would change forever. If something is bothering you, I'd like to know what it is. Just tell me."
"O-okay…"
May took a deep breath. She's going to say it. She's going to tell the love of her life that they're going to start their family together. And hopefully Drew wants that for them.
"D-Drew…" May started. "I'm…...pregnant."
Drew's eyes widened. May just said that she's pregnant. May just said that she's pregnant! He's going to be a father? They're going to start a family together? Now he can see why May made him promise that he won't be mad at her. And why she was so worried about telling him. She wants him to like what news she had to say.
"D-Drew?" May questioned. "Do you...like what I said?"
Drew didn't respond. He just continued staring at May in shock.
May looked down, frowning. "You don't want to have kids yet, huh?"
At that moment, he noticed that him not saying anything is making May worry even more. He crawled around the food and to May. Drew reached out and pulled May to him in an embrace.
"D-Drew?" May stuttered.
"I'm really...really happy to start a family with you." Drew said.
"You are? Really?" May asked hopeful.
"Of course." Drew answered. "I love you, May. And I always dreamed that we could have kids and start a family together. Our lives will definitely change, but…" he released May from the hug and they stared into each other's eyes. "I can't wait to be a father." He finished.
May smiled with watery eyes. "You don't know how happy that makes me."
Drew brushed May's cheek, tucking strands of hair behind her ear. "I think I'm starting to."
Drew leaned in and pressed his lips against May's. After a few seconds, he backed away.
"You make me so happy." Drew said.
(This song is "A Moment Like This" by Kelly Clarkson.)
May smiled. "What if I told you it was all meant to be?" May sang. "Would you believe me? Would you agree?" Drew lowered his hand from May's cheek. "It's almost that feelin' when you kiss me more." Drew smiled. "So tell me that you don't think I'm crazy. When I tell you love has come here and now."
"A moment like this." May continued. "Some people wait a lifetime. For a moment like this. Some people search forever. For that one special kiss. Oh I can't believe it's happening to me. Some people wait a lifetime." May sang, reaching up and caressing the back of Drew's head lovingly. "For a moment like this."
"Everything changes, but beauty remains." May sang. "Something so tender. I can't explain." She lowered her hand from his head and took his hand. "Well I may be dreamin'. But still lie awake. Can't we make this dream last forever? And I'll cherish all the love we share."
"A moment like this." May sang as both of them stood up hand-in-hand. "Some people wait a lifetime. For a moment like this." Drew walked closer to May and leaned down, pressing his forehead to hers and his free hand in her hair. May continued, staring deeply into Drew's eyes. "Some people search forever. For that one special kiss. Oh I can't believe it's happening to me. Some people wait a lifetime. For a moment like this."
Drew backed away from May. May led Drew to the edge of the gazebo while singing. "Could this be the greatest love of all? I wanna know that you will catch me when I fall." May and Drew stopped at the edge and faced each other. "So let me tell you this. Some people wait a lifetime for a moment like this."
May released Drew's hand and crossed her arms over her stomach. "Some people wait a lifetime for a moment like this." She continued. "Some people search forever for that one special kiss. Oh I can't believe it's happening to me." May sang as Drew stepped closer to her, wrapping his left arm around her back and his right hand running through her hair. "Some people wait a lifetime for a moment like this." She held out the note. "Ohh, like this. Oh I can't believe it's happening to me."
May wrapped her arms around Drew's neck. "Some people wait a lifetime for a moment like this." She sang softly. They started leaning in closer to each other. "Oh, like this…" May sang, finishing the song.
They both closed their eyes and kissed. They're both excited to become parents. May is glad that she was able to tell him today. Drew is really happy to be looking forward to starting a family with the love of his life. He's wanted this for a while now, and it'll finally happen.
They pulled away from each other, ending the kiss. "You always make me so happy." Drew said.
"As do you." May said. "I look forward to starting our family together." She tiptoed and gave Drew a peck on the lips. "Thank you for not getting mad at me."
"This is the best news ever. Why would I be mad at you?"
"I don't know...I was just...worried that...maybe you didn't want to start our family yet."
"That's crazy." Drew took May's right hand and lifted it up. He kissed her ring and then straightened himself to look at her in the eyes. "You are my whole world. And I love you with all of my heart. I promise to love our kids almost as much as I love you."
May giggled. "Almost?"
"Maybe more. But you'll always be my most favorite person."
May blushed. "How about you love our kids equally as me?"
"I can try…"
May giggled. "You're so mean."
Drew flicked his bangs up. "Maybe."
"And I think you should know...I'm actually already 16 weeks pregnant."
"Really?" Drew asked incredulously. "Why didn't you tell me as soon as you found out?"
"Well...I just wanted to tell you at the right time. I wanted it to be special. And what's more special than our anniversary?"
Drew smiled. "Nothing at all." He paused. "Now, I think we should celebrate this amazing news…" he held her hand tighter and walked her back to the picnic blanket where they sat across from each other. "With a celebratory cake." He finished, lifting up the box that's been next to him this entire time and placing it in the center of the blanket. He took off the lid, revealing the perfectly white circle cake with pink and green frosting around the top and edges. There was a large red rose made out of frosting in the middle of the cake.
May stared at the cake, almost drooling. It looks so good. Almost too good to eat.
Almost.
Drew handed May a fork. "Dig right in."
May looked at Drew. "It looks too good to eat."
Drew chuckled. He took his fork and it made contact with the cake. He lifted up the fork with the piece of the cake on it and he held it out in front of May's mouth. "Open."
May smiled and opened her mouth. Drew pushed the fork into her mouth and she closed it. He slid the fork out, scraping off the cake. May tasted the cake and swallowed.
"Well?" Drew asked.
May froze for a moment before she answered. "Oh my gosh."
"What?"
"This is possibly the best cake I've ever tasted."
Drew chuckled. "The chefs made us the best cake ever for this special day."
May smiled brightly. She then started using her own fork and eating the cake. Drew joined in with her.
