"And time!" Eri announced to the beeping of the stopwatch. "Did you guys get it?"
Kageyama was sprawled on the floor, while Shoyo was in a very awkward position leaning up against the wall. His legs were over his head, and he was positioned on his neck. Using his wings to help him, he flipped himself over.
"Dang it," Shoyo whined, rubbing his head. "He's too fast."
Kageyama grunted. "How did he beat both of us at the same time?"
"That's an easy answer," Deku said, floating down to meet the teens. "You two are inexperienced, and I've been a hero for almost forty years." He reached out a hand to help Kageyama up, which the black haired boy batted away. "But you two did great. You avoided my limited edition All Might posters, and you didn't break anything. Even if being a hero is all about getting the job done, you two did excellent work at damage control."
"But we didn't get the notebook," Kageyama murmured.
"But you were close," Deku corrected. "You were close to getting it, even though I have a height and speed advantage." He put the notebook in his desk drawer. "Great work guys. Take a moment to recuperate, then meet me at the front door. We're going on a patrol." He left the room, leaving the teens and Eri in there.
"You guys were great," Eri congratulated. "You two teaming up was a great strategy."
"It didn't work, though," Shoyo grumbled, getting on his feet. He helped Kageyama up as well.
"And sometimes it won't." Eri opened the door for them. "You just need to get back up and come up with another plan."
Shoyo and Kageyama looked at each other before leaving the office. They caught up with Deku, who was waiting right where he said he would.
"There you guys are," he greeted. "Before we officially start our patrol, we need to stop by your barracks over at the Uravity agency."
"Uravity agency?" Kageyama asked.
Deku rubbed the back of his head. "Yeah, I, uh, never take interns. When I took on Take-uh, Protector, the first time, I had to let him stay at my house with my husband and kids." He chuckled. "Lucky for you guys, though, Uravity isn't on maternity leave this time."
He led them to a building a couple of blocks from the Deku agency. The automatic doors opened. A secretary with black hair and red eyes walked up to them, a clipboard in his hand.
"Uravity is in the barracks with her interns," he said cheerfully. "You can go right up. Eighth floor."
"Thank you, Miu," Deku responded, leading Shoyo and Kageyama into an elevator. "That was Uravity's son. He's her secretary until he inherits the Ingenium agency." He sighed. "Why Ingenium hasn't retired yet is beyond me."
Shoyo stood awkwardly next to a stoic looking Kageyama. He glanced at Kageyama's biceps, which were sort of detailed with his skin tight suit. He couldn't help but try to reach out to touch them. His hand was met with a slap and a grunt. Defeated, Shoyo put his hands back at his sides. There was a small ding to announce their arrival to the eighth floor.
The doors opened, and Deku led them out of the elevator. Directly from the elevator, there was a hall with doors lining both walls.
"I think you two were supposed to be…" Deku deliberated, looking at both sides of the hall. "Aha, yes." He led them to the back of the hall into a room with two beds. "Here you go. You'll be sharing a room." He ushered them inside. "Put your stuff down, get settled in, and then we'll start our first patrol. I'll be-ack!"
He was cut off by a sudden arm around his neck pulling him to the ground. He landed with a giant thud and groan.
"Oh, no, was that too rough?" Uravity's panicked voice came from the hall. "I'm so sorry, Deku!"
"Hey, Uravity." Deku's voice was strained from the impact. "Long time no see."
Uravity helped Deku up, blushing profusely. "I'm really sorry, Deku, I didn't mean to use Gunhead Martial Arts there, it just happened."
Deku chuckled. "It's fine, Uravity, really."
Uravity heaved a sigh of relief. "Good," she said, smiling. Then she looked to the teens in the room. "Oh! Hinata and Kageyama! How have you been since the field trip?"
"Fine," they said in unison.
"That's good," Uravity drawled slowly, narrowing her eyes at the two. "Well, if you two need anything, Yamaguchi is just down the hall. He knows what's what about the agency."
"Yes, ma'am!"
Uravity smiled and turned to Deku. "Keep an eye on those two. They have a tendency of getting lost."
Deku chuckled. "I don't intend on letting them out of my sight."
Kei surveyed his temporary room.
"We get to share a room," a voice said behind him.
Kei turned around to see Yamaguchi. "Yes, it seems we do."
"Which means," Yamaguchi drew out, walking closer to Kei, "I get to stop you if you try to do something dumb while you're here."
Kei rolled his eyes, setting clothes in the drawers on his side of the room. "Who says I'm going to do something dumb?"
"Your 'I'm plotting something' face," Yamaguchi retorted. Kei raised an eyebrow. "Come on, Tsukki, I've known you since we were kids. I know the wide rainbow of your monotone face." Kei felt Yamaguchi's gentle arms wrap around his middle. "Tell me what you're planning."
Kei huffed. "I don't do dumb things. Besides, even if I am planning something, I'm not telling you."
"Why not?"
"You just said you'd stop me." Kei fluffed out a pillow. "And it's my business. I don't want something bad happening to you because I decided to do something dumb."
Yamaguchi sighed. "So what I'm hearing is that you're planning on doing something dumb, but you're not at the same time."
"Yes."
Kei felt cold as Yamaguchi's arms left his waist. "Then I'll leave you alone for now." Kei listened as Yamaguchi's footsteps walked to the door. "Don't forget that you could talk to me when you need to, okay?"
Kei rolled his eyes. "Yeah, I won't."
