Chapter 48 - Daddy

Rose was gone to the hospital when the Doctor, Sam and Jack popped back to the flat.

"Where is everyone?" the Doctor asked.

Sam thought for a moment, "The pool. They just got out and will be back up shortly."

Jack looked around. "Nice place! Love the view. Yours?"

"Yep!" the Doctor popped.

Jack looked at the balcony. "This looks nice. How often do you sit out there?"

The Doctor walked next to him and opened the door to the balcony. "Honestly, I've never even walked out here."

They both sat in chairs next to one another.

The Doctor ran his hand through his hair. "You know, it's weird. I remember your presence just got under my skin in the last dimension."

Jack laughed, "Yeah, you told me I was just wrong. I was hard to be around."

The Doctor nodded. "Yeah. I don't really feel that way this time. I don't know why. Strange."

Jack sighed. "So, a different dimension that some entity brought me to. I need to help you find out who's behind a bunch of attacks, but you can't get me back into the other dimension."

"Right." the Doctor said. "We've managed to find ourselves in a sea of trouble here."

"Who are they attacking?" Jack asked.

"Anyone who isn't human, or sides with an alien. They are all terrified of anyone that's not from Earth here."

"Because of the Cyber Invasion you told me about?"

The Doctor nodded. "Yep. That's basically it."

"So, you are public enemy number one, then? The one they want?"

The Doctor shook his head. "No, surprisingly not. Well, not up until recently. Rose is their target."

"Rose? Why her?" Jack asked.

"The entity that brought you here, is still in her. It's what made you immortal. Which she worries you probably hate her for it." the Doctor told him.

Jack laughed. "Well, that's just absurd. Why would she think that?"

The Doctor shook his head. "I don't know. She was dealing with some stuff at the time. She might have just said it. I don't know. It might come up."

Jack smiled. "I'd love to see her. Can we go to her place?"

The Doctor smiled. "We are there. She lives here with me!"

Jack looked surprised. "Really? What's that about?"

The Doctor smiled. "Oh, this is too good! I think I'll let her tell you."

Jack looked at the view. "This is beautiful, here. You know, I still have my vortex manipulator."

The Doctor shook his head. "It won't work here. Different vortex."

"Yeah, but you could fix it. We could start traveling in time again. I'm sure you miss it."

The Doctor sighed. "Oh, I do. But, no. I couldn't."

Jack was surprised. "What? You not travel in time?"

The Doctor rubbed his head. "I can't do that now. I am needed here. I've promised Rose I wouldn't."

Jack threw his hands up. "We could take Rose! What's the problem?"

The Doctor shook his head. "No, sorry Jack. I can't join you on that adventure for a while."

Their conversation was interrupted by Genie, Tony and Zeus running out on the balcony.

Tony waved and said, "See you! I'm going to play football in your room!"

Zeus followed him.

The Doctor laughed. "Okay, bye!"

He turned to Jack and said, "That boy never stops."

Jack asked, "You have a dog?"

The Doctor grabbed Genie, sat her on his knees and smiled at her. "Hey, little one! Did you have a good time swimming?"

Genie covered her mouth and smiled. "Yes. You should come with us!"

"I'd love to! I love to swim. It's one of my favorite things." the Doctor told her.

He pointed at Jack. "Genie, this is an old friend of mine and Rose's. His name is Jack."

Jack offered his hand to Genie and smiled. "Pleased to meet you, Genie. How old are you?"

"Four and a half." Genie smiled.

Jack smiled back at her. "You are a beautiful little girl."

The Doctor fussed, "Watch it! I'm not the man you used to know, Jack. There are things I will kill for."

Genie laughed at the Doctor. Jack smiled at him.

The Doctor looked at Genie. "Jack is one of the people you can talk about being special around. He won't be mean to you. Not ever. He's a friend. Now, how's your head?"

"A little hurt. Not bad." Genie told him.

"Little one. Ugh! You have got to tell me when it hurts at all. Don't wait until it gets bad. It will make you sick." He lay his hands on the side of her face.

Jack watched as the Doctor closed his eyes and Genie closed hers. They stayed that way for a few moments. Jack couldn't believe he was seeing the Doctor telepathically link to a child.

After a few moments, the Doctor opened his eyes and rubbed her cheeks with his thumbs. "Alright, little one. What did I say? Could you understand me?"

She opened her eyes and smiled. "You said you love me."

Jack smiled as he watched the Doctor smile at the little girl.

"What else did I say?" the Doctor smiled at her.

Genie covered her face and giggled.

"See, you are just being silly. Tell me, little one. What did you hear?" the Doctor asked.

"You said your name. I heard it!" Genie told him.

The Doctor beamed. "You heard it! Clearly?"

She smiled and nodded excitedly.

"Tell Jack what my name is. What do you call me?" the Doctor smiled.

Genie giggled.

Jack tickled her. "Oh, tell me. I know he's the Doctor!"

Genie shook her head as she laughed. "No way! I hate that name. He's Daddy!"

Jack nearly fell out of his chair. The Doctor laughed at him. He picked Genie up and held her above his head. He smiled as he brought her down and kissed her on the forehead. "Go play with Tony. Rose will be back later and I have a big surprise for you lot."

He sat Genie down and she ran back into the flat.

The Doctor looked back at Jack who still had a stunned look on his face. "Daddy?"

The Doctor laughed. "Oh, that was great! I wish Rose could have been here! Ha! Yes. I'm Genie's Daddy."

"Are you sure about that? She doesn't look like you at all. " Jack asked him.

"Oh! Not like that! Ugh! Rose's friend died and Rose was left the custody of her."

"But, why is Rose, Rose and you are Daddy?" Jack asked.

"That's what she wanted to call me. She doesn't like Doctors. Can't say I blame her. I don't like them either." the Doctor said.

"Well, who is the little boy?"

"That is Rose's little brother, my little brother. Tony. He's a four year old, football obsessed boy. Woo. That red hair of his is no lie. The dog is his, too." the Doctor said.

Jack looked surprised. "Damn. The next thing you are probably going to tell me is that you got married."

The Doctor chuckled as he ran his hand through his hair. "Who would I get married to?"

"I have no idea. This is all so shocking, that's the next thing I figure you will tell me." Jack said.

The Doctor laughed as he rubbed his face with both of his hands. Jack saw his wedding band. "The actual fuck! You did get married! All in a month?!"

The Doctor laughed. "Yeah, two. No, three days ago. Rose and I married. Here, in our flat. She didn't want to wait any longer. I only asked her two weeks ago. I think. All of my days have ran together here. Time is harder to keep up with on the slow path than I imagined."

Jack was running his hand through his hair. "I need a drink! That's a bomb you dropped on me. You, Rose! A daughter! Damn! No wonder you waited to spring this on me."

The Doctor laughed and lead him back into the flat to pour them both a drink.

Jack toasted, "To old friends!"

The Doctor smiled. "Yes. To old friends." And drank. "I need to go check on the children a minute. I'll be straight back. Make yourself at home."

Tony was kicking the football at the window while Genie played with her dolls in her room. The Doctor went into the closet to change out of his suit. Just as he had put on his jeans, t-shirt and oxford, Rose popped in behind him. She wrapped her arms around him.

"Oh, I love this closet. It has the most beautiful woman in it." the Doctor told her as he turned and wrapped his arms around her. She smiled as he leaned in and kissed her.

"I missed you today." Rose told him.

He cupped her face with his hands. "It was the snogging before I left wasn't it? That's what did it."

Rose smiled. "Maybe so. Do it again."

"I'll never tell you no, Rose." he smiled as he pulled her into his lips.

She ran her hands through his hair as he wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her close to him.

'I can taste that whiskey on in your mouth, Old Man.' Rose teased him.

'Damn whiskey! That's what it's called.' he corrected her.

'Damn whiskey, then.' Rose said in his head.

He continued to snog her, running his hands up and down her body.

He could feel her surprise at his enthusiasm. 'Sorry, I just really missed you as well. I've had to keep my shields up all day and couldn't feel you.'

'Why are your shields up?' Rose asked him.

He stopped snogging her and looked at her. "Umm. A surprise. A really good surprise! It's in the sitting room now."

Rose rolled her eyes. "So, you are putting this off again?"

He laughed and put his hands on his hips. "I didn't put it off! I told you tonight. There are children all over the place in this flat!"

She bit her bottom lip. "Okay, sorry. Just missed you. That's all."

He looked around, "Well, we can lock the closet doors. Take ten minutes in here. I won't tell you no, Rose. Not ever."

Rose smiled at him and considered. "No, you're right. Tonight. I can wait."

"Are you sure?" he asked.

Rose blushed. "Yes. I can wait. I know it will be better if I wait."

"Better?" he exclaimed in surprise.

She laughed as she looked at him. "You know what I mean. A comfy bed, music-"

He held her close and bit his lip. "Candles and silk sheets. They are on the bed now. I can't wait to try them out."

"When did you do that?" Rose asked him.

"Ha! Don't worry about it. Let it be mystery to you. It's more fun that way." he smiled at her.

She smiled. "Okay. My surprise. What is it?"

He took her hand and lead her out of the closet. "Something you will love."

He held her hand as he walked through the bathroom. As they walked through the bedroom, the Doctor stopped and pointed at Jack.

"Jack?" Rose asked.

Jack turned his head and rubbed Tony's head. He had been kicking the ball against the window. He ran to Rose and picked her up in an embrace.

They were all smiles. "I hope you don't mind, Doc. Genie came and got me. She said Tony needed someone to help him shoot at Zeppelins."

The Doctor smiled. "That's fine."

Rose was nearly crying. "I can't believe you are here! Is this our Jack?"

The Doctor nodded. "Yes. The very same. But, from about 700 years from when we last saw him."

Jack laughed, "Yes. And it seems like the Doctor has done more in this one month than I've done in 700 years!"

Rose laughed.

Tony yelled. "Brother! Get over here and shoot down these Zeppelins with me!"

"Excuse me. Duty calls." the Doctor said as he clapped his hands once and his football zoomed to him. He sat it down. Genie was jumping on the bed again. "Line them up!"

"Ready!" Tony and the Doctor said.

"Shoot them!" Genie yelled.

Both Tony and the Doctor kicked the footballs as hard as they could. They stuck in the force field.

Tony cheered! "I got mine!"

The Doctor howled. "Yes! I got mine! Let's do it again!"

Jack laughed. "Do they do this often?"

Rose nodded. "He only showed it to them this morning. It's their new favorite thing. He hates Zeppelins."

"Doctor, we're going back in the sitting room. Alright?" Rose called to him.

He waved as he went over and turned on the stereo on the corner. "Children, we need music!" The Hollies song, 'Long Cool Woman (in a Black Dress) started playing loudly.

Rose put her hands on her hips and playfully fussed at him. "You are going to get us kicked out of this flat with that loud music."

"No, I'm not. Just tell them a teenager lives up here. They will be grateful I'm playing it so low! Ha!" he teased her.
