Early morning confessions.

Luna:
How many stars can I count?
One Two Three...
Thirty, thirty-one, thirty-two...
Pansy was buying a drink. Luna was at her side, curiously watching the movements of the man at the bar. She considered that if one day he wanted to stop selling alcohol, he might as well belong to a circus. He had a real talent for juggling and putting on an eye-catching show!
"Are you sure you don't want anything else?" Pansy asked, making sure.
"Yeah, just water is fine," Luna said.
"You do realize that water will be more expensive than other things, right?"
"Yes, but I want that. Why would I ask for something else that I don't want?"
Pansy made a resigned face as she approached a Slytherin boy she knew who had a friend who was of legal age, so he could buy her something with alcohol in addition to the glass of water. Not that Luna didn't like drinks (she had several favorite sweet drinks since she couldn't decide on just one), but right now she was thirsty, not in the mood to drink.
She looked around, she loved the decorations of the place. The lights were so pretty! She would have liked to be able to take a photograph.
"You're having fun, aren't you?" Pansy spoke to her.
"Yes, of course," she replied, smiling as one of the lights in the background swirled. "And you?"
Pansy looked to the side, trying to figure out what Luna was looking at, as she replied:
"Me too, Isa was..." She stopped, raising an eyebrow to see how Luna leaned her body to one side, to try to better see the great light show that a couple of girls were covering from her. "Uh... they did great. In the last song especially, because… because…" she snorted. "What the heck are you looking at?"
"The light show."
"Hey? What show of...?"
The boy Pansy asked for help arrived, interrupting the conversation. She seemed to forget her indignation and thanked him as she picked up the drinks he brought. Luna offered him a kind smile to thank him as well. He seemed surprised to see her, and didn't take his eyes off her.
"She is... Is this Lovegood?"
"Yes, she is my friend, Luna. And this is Cameron, one of my classmates," Pansy introduced them.
"Nice to meet you," he said, with a big smile.
Pansy smiled as she raised the drink to her mouth. Luna wasn't sure why her friend reacted like this. What was so funny to her? Then she remembered her glass of water, and she extended her hand to Pansy to ask for it. She responded, giving her her drink.
"Just water?" Said Cameron. "Let me buy you something else."
"No, I'm fine," Luna replied in a sweet tone.
"Is it okay if I leave you alone? I have to go tease Sophie and the idiot for dancing together," Pansy said, then turned, focusing on her friend's face." Do you think it's OK? Do you want to stay with Cameron? Or do you want to come with me?"
"I have no particular interest in bothering Sophie and Ron…" Luna muttered honestly.
Pansy rested one of her hands on her hip, letting out a sigh.
"If she complains to me..." she threatened, pointing her finger at Cameron. "Be nice!"
Cameron chuckled as Pansy walked away.
"Why would you be unpleasant?" Asked Luna.
"I won't be, I promise. Are you sure you only want water?"
"Yes."
He seemed surprised, but did not insist further. He shook his head, pointing toward the mass of people dancing.
"You wanna?"
"Dance or go to the bathroom?"
"What?" He seemed flustered by her question. Luna didn't understand, what was wrong with going to the bathroom?
"There's the door, I don't know if you pointed that out or the dance area," she explained.
"Ah... ah!" He sputtered. "To dance. I would like to dance with you."
"Sure that's fine."
Cameron smiled as he offered her his hand. She took it and was soon led to the floor. She felt happy, she loved being around people who were having fun. Some made really cool moves! Her dance partner stopped, and she followed suit. He turned to face her and put his left hand on her waist. Luna liked Cameron, he was a gentle boy without Wrackspurts around, so he seemed to be someone quite positive in terms of thoughts. Pansy on the other hand, used to have more hanging around. Even Hermione, especially during exam times. Even Ron had several, mostly during his fourth year... She was startled to notice that Cameron moved closer to her, beginning to dance. Had she been distracted for too long? She smiled at him, wanting to pay attention to him, and he followed suit.
"You are very beautiful today."
"Thanks! These clothes were lent to me, it's not usually my style, but Aurora insisted and I really like the color orange, so…"
"You're fun," he said, laughing.
Luna cocked her head. Was it her imagination or was Cameron closer? Seeing how he looked down a bit, she raised her eyebrows a little. "Oh! I thought he just wanted to dance" she thought. She turned her face to the side a little, trying to clear up his confusion without being rude and telling him to his face that she didn't want to kiss him.
A new song started and Luna's face lit up. She loved this new music! Cameron was disheartened when he saw Luna take a step away from him to start dancing. She jumped up a little, beginning to spin.
"Uh..." he stammered. "Luna?"
"Yes?" She asked, making a wave with her arms.
"What are you doing?"
"Dancing, this song is very fun."
He looked around, shrugging a little.
"I... uh... this..." He jerked her thumb behind her back as she spoke. "Do you mind? I just remembered something I have to say to a friend."
"Of course not. Go ahead."
He took a hesitant step back, before turning on his heel and walking away. Luna stopped dancing, because it was a little ridiculous to do it alone. This song was for dancing together!
She looked around. Would Cameron take long? She looked to her right, looking for Pansy, she was sure that in that area she had seen her for the last time. She found her soon, she was with Hermione, whispering something into her ear. Luna smiled when she saw them. She always thought that they were a cute couple and were adorable together, since she perceived that Pansy's aura was a dark blue and muted color, while Hermione's a coral pink. Anyone could see with the naked eye that they complemented each other! She walked over to them, but stopped when she noticed that Pansy had a particular look. Luna wondered if she was the only one who realized that among her friends, how much Pansy was looking to Hermione, as if she were fire to someone shivering with cold. Her friend looked at Hermione as if she was asking all the time how she feels about her, if she loves her the same way, if she were really seeing her... Luna smiled empathetically, Pansy was not used to being anyone's first choice, but luckily it was no longer like that. She doubted then, whether she should try to approach them. However, the answer came to Luna when she saw that Pansy grabbed Hermione's hand to guide her to the exit; it was not okay to interrupt intimate moments.
She turned around, looking for the rest of her friends. She smiled when she caught sight of Ginny's red hair. She was leaning against a column, chatting with Neville and Zuri, so she ran over to them.
"Hello everyone!" Luna said, at the same time that she smoothed her dress that had flown a bit from moving too fast.
"Pansy dumped you?" Ginny teased.
"Yes, she seemed to want an intimate moment with Hermione. They just left."
"In... intimate?" Neville repeated with wide eyes and red cheeks.
"Did they go to the bathrooms?" Asked Zuri.
"Is Hermione having sex in the bathroom?" Ginny rephrased, her mouth hanging open.
"No, they went outside," Luna clarified.
"Are they having sex on the beach ?! Ginny yelled.
Neville made a strangled noise, seemed to want to sink his head underground.
"Luna, by Merlin," Ginny called out, grabbing her shoulder. "How do you know that Pansy and Hermione are having sex? Were they groping while dancing? I think I could throw up just imagining it…"
"I never said that," Luna said.
"Didn't you mean sexual tension when you said intimacy?" Zuri wondered.
Luna shook her head. Why would you say intimate to refer to sex? They were two quite different things. I see, for example, a kiss or a hug as much more intimate.
"Oh, Cameron," Luna recalled.
"Who?" Neville asked.
"My dance partner," she replied, turning to look at the people dancing in the center of the room.
"Were you dancing with a boy?" Ginny said, raising one of her eyebrows. "You were supposed to be with Pansy."
"That surprises you?" Zuri laughed. "Luna looks beautiful. All of you really." She glanced at Neville with a teasing smile before continuing, "You didn't hear it from me, but Hannah... You know who she is, right? From Hufflepuff. She's been looking at you all night, I'm sure she wants to dance with you!"
"With... with me?" Neville paled.
"You love to dance! It would be a great idea for you to go with her. I'll help you find her," Luna said.
"I don't think she wants to, I don't..."
"You look very handsome Neville," Luna cut him off. "It's only fitting that Hannah took notice of you tonight. Also, sometimes you work together in class, you like each other, so you're sure to have fun."
"Whoops, whoops, whoops," Zuri crooned. "Do they talk to each other in class? Am I hearing the song of a future romance? It seems that tonight I must play Cupid."
Zuri wasted no time: she hugged Neville's arm at the elbow and pulled him, dragging him with her. She blurted out a "See ya!" enthusiastically as she walked away to look for Hannah. Luna raised her hand and waved it, dismissing them.
"Who is Cameron?" Ginny asked.
"My dance partner."
"I know, I know. But I mean, where did you get him from? Are they a friend? You never told me about him."
"I met him tonight. And I think he wanted to kiss me, so I'm not sure he wants my friendship... Too bad! He seemed friendly."
Ginny laughed as she shook her head.
"You are conquering boys! Who would have guessed," she said, nudging Luna on her arm.
"I wasn't trying to win him over. I think he liked my dress."
"Of course not! Zuri is right, by the way. You are beautiful."
"Thanks, you too Ginny."
Deep down, she did not entirely agree with her statement. Yes, Ginny was beautiful, but Luna always preferred to see her in her normal clothes. Or even her Quidditch uniform! She always looked very happy and radiant when she played that sport. Today, Ginny is wearing makeup, when she usually has a more natural look. Her hair is tied up in a rather elaborate hairstyle, different from every other day, which is loose and straight. She was wearing red at least, which is usually associated with Ginny, since she has many red or pink shirts... but they are not usually like that, like today. She normally dresses in a way that can be considered feminine, however, she always chooses comfortable things because she likes to run or suddenly sit on the ground; so they are usually loose, but made of beautiful fabrics, with some embroidering decorating or some attractive cut in the fabric. Tonight her clothes were much tighter. Luna liked the Ginny she saw every day a thousand times more than the one who tries to attract attention at a party.
However, she would not say that. Maybe she preferred to see Ginny differently, but she always looked good. Ginny is always pretty! And she couldn't bear to see her discouraged just by such a trivial subject as clothing.
Luna didn't say anything bad. So... why did Ginny suddenly have Wrackspurts?
"What are you thinking?" Luna asked, tilting her head, trying to find the right angle so she could see Ginny's eyes better.
"Hm? Nothing, "she laughed. "Why do you ask?"
"You are discouraged."
"I'm not. How could it be in this place?"
Luna didn't take her eyes off Ginny's. She knew she was hiding something, but did not insist, it was never a good idea to prod the secrets of others. She looked at the rest of Ginny's face, feeling worried. She noticed then that several of Ginny's freckles were covered in makeup.
"Why do you seem upset?"
She focused her eyes back on Ginny's, surprised by the question.
"You were looking at me weird. You never frown like that!"
"Oh, I didn't realize it," she said, returning her head to a normal position. "I just don't like cloudy nights."
"Eh eh?"
Luna looked around her then, wondering again about Cameron. She really didn't want to be rude!
"It's not cloudy today," Ginny said, still confused.
"That's what you think?"
"It's not cloudy!" She exclaimed with a smile. "Look, we can go see."
Before she knew it, Luna felt Ginny's hand hold hers as she guided her towards the stairs that led to the exit of the bar. She tried to remember why she shouldn't go out, but actually... she didn't care. She was always going to prefer spending her time with Ginny.
02:05 a.m.
Ginny:
How beautiful is Luna!
No.
Moon.
How beautiful is the Moon!
No Luna.
Who is Cameron?
The bottom of her stomach felt heavy and sour, and she was too surprised that it was. And even more importantly, she didn't want to feel that way!
As she left the bar she looked up. Just as she guessed, the night was clear. Why did Luna care about this? She had no idea. But now she was grateful for getting out. Some fresh air to relax her stomach was good.
Luna was behind her. She was still holding her hand. It felt thin and smooth to the touch, much more than her own. Should she let go of her? Did Luna mind?
"You see? I told you," Ginny boasted, turning to smile at her.
"What are you talking about?"
"Well... the sky. You said it was cloudy."
A lazy smile spread across Luna's face, and then she released her hand, crossing them behind her back. Ginny then crossed her arms over her chest. She felt strange, lost. Luna started to walk, and although she hesitated, Ginny followed her, after letting out a heavy sigh.
She was fine before. She was really having fun! This was one of the best outings of her life. She heard a damn cool band play live, and she loved every damn second! She even beat Pansy dancing! And a certain Cameron was ruining it all at once ?! It did not make sense. She glanced at Luna, who had her head pointed up to the sky without looking where she stepped, as she hummed something; but she made it so smooth that she couldn't try to imitate it. What song would that be?
"Did you want to kiss him? That guy Cameron," Ginny said, falling into curiosity. She just couldn't stop thinking about it.
"No."
"Why not?"
"Why would I?"
Ginny snorted, amused. Her stomach felt lighter. Luna didn't want to kiss him. She wanted to say that her relief was due to the walk and the fresh air. But could she pretend it was just that?
"You did kiss a lot of boys," Luna said. "And a couple of girls. But I never wondered why."
Ginny wrinkled her nose, thinking. That was true. Didn't that make her a hypocrite? For not wanting her friend to kiss a boy, when this year she had been interested in several people?
Ginny prefers to do things, she doesn't like to think so long about something, since she doesn't always like what she finds. Now she was thinking, and she wasn't liking what was on her mind: she was jealous, because she didn't want someone else to kiss Luna. But did she want her? Did Ginny want to kiss one of her best friends?
"Feelings are damn complicated" she thought hatefully, raising her head to look at the sky as well. But it didn't last long, she lowered her eyes again to keep looking at Luna. She looked... so happy. If there was any bitterness in her stomach, it was gone. Because if she had to highlight something she liked about Luna, it was that, those warm and friendly vibes that she seemed to convey all the time, her calm and her ease of sharing it with others. She had never met someone like her, a person who enjoys everything so deeply and without consuming it until it is destroyed.
Ginny sometimes thought she loved everything: Quidditch, her family, food, sleep, the ground when fell on it and it hurt, or she got knee-deep in mud, the sun and its heat, or even the water so cold that it hurt her. it made her tremble. And she threw himself headlong into all that and more, doing it until she was fed up. She wasn't sure what love is, but most of the time she was ecstatic, about everything and nothing. She loved that, she loved everything. But what did she love the most? What did she really want, if she loved everything?
She first loved Harry Potter. He was so famous and he seemed so kind... His tousled hair made him look great, and he even had a scar! It was like a crush at first sight, she only knew that she wanted to attract the attention of the boy who lived, to know him, to know what he liked, how his life was. And then when she entered Hogwarts, she adored him more, because he saved her. Not only was he cute and famous, he was also her hero. He, at only 12 years old, fought a basilisk, an impressive feat. Harry saved her life and she could never be grateful enough, she could never get over her admiration for him and his bravery. And then... maybe... wasn't that love?
Why were feelings so complicated? Ginny looked at the ground, as she began to walk more abruptly, dragging the soles of her sandals more on the sidewalk. She liked that noise, harsh, fast. Some pebbles were thrown out by her action, sometimes the crunching of grains of sand was also heard when she stepped on them.
She was also jealous of Harry. She didn't like Cho, she was very popular too, probably one of the prettiest in Ravenclaw. On top of that, she played Quidditch, and she did it very well. She had everything she wanted! It almost felt like an outburst. Ginny was too young to make the team yet, and who knows if she would finally make it when she started her fifth year. But this year, during her fourth year? She also had to swallow that acid that was running down her throat and falling heavy against her stomach, because Harry likes Cho. The boy she liked drooling all day over another. Or... she doesn't like him? And is it just admiration, not love?
Hermione was never very helpful. She is very intelligent, but very practical and focused, too much so to sink into complicated emotions. When she spoke to her about these things, about her confused feelings, she knew that some things were escaping her best friend, who did not understand why she could not just choose the most logical option. She couldn't quite understand how Ginny became obsessed with Harry and at the same time was very happy with Dean Thomas. She knew that she thought that she was kissing him to ignore her feelings for Harry. But it wasn't like that, she felt a deep tingling in the pit of her stomach when she kissed Dean, but she also felt the same when Harry did something cool, like watching him win a Quidditch match. Her time alone with Harry in the library or with Dean in The Three Broomsticks felt very special, they made her feel like she was walking on a feather-filled mattress... Isn't that love? Who was she really supposed to love? What did she feel? What did she want? Maybe... she liked Luna? Or did she like Harry? Or Dean? Or Zuri?
How could she ignore that? Zuri was like... Whoa! Yes, that was it: whoa. If Harry was cool to her, she had no idea what Zuri looked like to her. She and her instrument, the drums, were very good together, just noise, rhythm, a beat, racing heartbeats. This girl was magnetic to her, as if prompting her to do whatever she wanted. She was older than Ginny, and she looked so radiant and confident... Ginny knew she had a serious crush on her, as she haunted her.
Admiration, obsession, titillation... which was correct?
When she was talking to Zuri, along with Neville, she could only see her and think, "I'm talking to one of the most amazing girls I've ever seen" or "What will she think of me? By Merlin, I want to like you." But suddenly Luna arrived and all that internal fire, that accumulated energy, relaxed. She stopped seeing the Sun that consumed her alive, to see her. With Luna she felt relaxed, free. Her friend could see it all, but in a unique way, and Ginny was no exception, she felt unique under her eyes. So why did Cameron show up? She didn't like that. Just like when Pansy kept her away from Luna for a long time, she hated that Cameron tried to touch her.
Maybe it was because she was the youngest of many siblings that she adored getting attention, or maybe it was just her way. Sometimes she felt that she might become addicted to adrenaline, intense hatred, or love that overflows from the heart. She liked to feel, and she can't help but fall for more.
"Why do you kiss people?" Asked Luna.
Ginny raised her eyebrows in surprise. She gasped, not sure.
"I like the feeling," she managed to reply.
"When I want to kiss someone, it's because they makes me happy, because I like to be around them."
"Did you... wanted to kiss someone?"
"Of course."
"I thought you weren't interested in those things."
That was another concern, one that made her feel foolish for just questioning the possibility of her liking Luna. She is asexual, and just thinking about it made her dizzy and confused. So opposite to Ginny... Why was Luna so different from her? Could they really hit it off? Now they did... maybe...
"I don't think they interest me in the same way as you, rather."
"I don't get it."
"What do you feel when you want to kiss someone?" Zuri, for example.
"What?" Did Luna know she liked Zuri? Ginny flushed at Luna's watchful eye. "I do not know. It's like a tug."
"Well, I don't feel that tug."
"So how can you want to kiss someone?"
"What do you feel when you hug me? Why do you do it?"
"Uhm... a tug?" She stammered, confused. She didn't know why she did things, she just felt them.
"I like when you hug me. It feels good, I like that you do it because I love you so much."
"Great," she said, and then took a deep breath. Her heart felt too restless. Her face burned, and the cool wind that beat on her cheeks reminded her of it.
"I wouldn't have liked Cameron to kiss me. He reminded me a bit of you... but…"
"But?" She repeated, looking closely into Luna's eyes. Did she...? Did she mean that he wasn't Ginny, so it wouldn't be the same? Who does Luna want to kiss? No. She should not be delusional, believing herself the center of everything.
Luna turned then, starting to run to cross the street. Ginny looked both ways, relieved there were no cars and went after Luna. Why was she running away? Shouldn't she follow her? But no matter what she thought, she wanted to run after her. Her feet just reacted and moved.
When they reached the railings that separated the street from the beach, they passed under them. They made their way down the rocks and sand dunes with little grace, stumbling a bit over their shoes, until they got to the flats. Still they didn't stop, Luna sped toward the ocean, kicking the sand in her wake with little grace, and only when her knees dipped under the water did she stop. Ginny stood next to her. They were both gasping for air.
"Why did we run?" Ginny said, still not catching her breath, shuddering from the cold water on her feet and from the small waves that washed over her legs.
"The ocean called me. I had to do it."
They were silent for a few seconds, until a soft laugh escaped Ginny's mouth, which increased until it became almost hysterical laughter.
"You just felt like you wanted to run to the ocean so you did? Don't you think it's a bit strange?" She asked, laughing.
"It is? I always do what I feel. It's good to be in tune with my emotions, it would be foolish to ignore them."
Ginny leaned in, cupping her hands to grab some water and threw it right at her head and face. Luna looked at her curiously, but did not stop her, but bent down to fill her hands with water.
"Need help?" She offered herself.
Ginny shrugged and then nodded. "Why not?" she thought. Luna threw the water with little grace and a lot of force, right at her face. She was stunned, because it felt like a bludger had appeared out of nowhere to hit her in the face.
"Better?" Said Luna with a friendly smile.
Again, Ginny laughed out loud again. The tingling that she felt both with Dean, with Harry and with Zuri was there. But it also extended much higher, in the center of her chest.
"Oh, Aurora might not be amused that we're in the water in her clothes," Luna said.
Ginny reached for her hand, to pull her friend until they were both out of the water. Luna sat bolt upright on the sand, staring out at the ocean. Although that probably wasn't good for clothes either, Ginny followed suit and sat next to her.
"Better?" Luna reiterated.
She wasn't entirely sure what to answer. Because yes, she was, with Luna she felt happy in such a warm and unique way! It was like eating cotton candy: soft, sweet, and when you bit into it, it was as light as air, melting on your tongue as fast as a second goes by.
But... why was it? Was it love? Was it not? She wasn't feeling at this moment any pull that was pulling her towards Luna's mouth, but at the same time, she couldn't stop looking at her, because she had the kindest smile and the brightest eyes, and her blonde hair was a tangled mess, next to her dress also made a mess, wet on the edge and stained with sand. She could spend the whole night staring at her and not thinking about touching her, without being forced to consume her by a tug. As if she were literally the Moon on high, so distant and dazzling.
"Ginny," she called, "you don't have to look up a word for what you feel."
"What are you talking about?" she asked.
Perhaps she should be concerned about Luna's sensitivity, especially her ability to know things that she shouldn't, to find the hidden, those details that most people ignore... but Luna is Luna, she had already gotten used to this. And actually, she liked it. With Hermione she could never explain herself, because she didn't even understand what she wanted to say to her. But with Luna? With her she just had to be who she was, and she could see her as she is without problems.
"I don't even know what I feel. I have to try to find words," Ginny said, frustrated.
"Hmm," Luna murmured as she put a finger to her lips to think.
"I'm the one who should think, not you," she laughed.
Luna shrugged, before laying flat on the sand. Ginny pursed her lips to keep from laughing anymore. Aurora was going to end up hating the Lovegoods completely.
"I was jealous of Cameron," she confessed without thinking.
This was probably a bad idea, but she spat it out from the bottom of her stomach anyway. Could she risk their friendship with her statement? Ruin the best relationship she had with someone? Yes. And it felt too good. After all... it's Luna who she told this to. Maybe if it had been someone else, she would never have said anything, but... with Luna it was always easy just to be honest. It was even possible that she already knew the truth.
"Oh. Sorry. I didn't mean to make you jealous."
"I know... I mean... No. Don't apologize for that, you didn't do anything wrong. I..." she sighed, shrinking a little, hugging her own legs, "I thought all night that I would like to kiss Zuri. I thought about it all night. A lot of. And then I get upset about Cameron? It is foolish."
"Well, but you like me... it makes sense."
"I did not say…"
"I think I like you too. Although I never liked anyone. I wish I could contrast it to be sure."
"Do you like me?" She asked, tensing and widening her eyes.
Luna cocked her head, thinking, and after a few seconds she nodded.
"But I... I don't... I don't know what I'm doing or feeling half the time. And you matter to me a lot. I don't know who I like, I don't know what I want. And now I told you all this... What kind of friend am I? I'm ruining our friendship with this nonsense, right? Maybe I should just shut up. I don't want things to get weird. I don't like to think about these things."
Luna rested her hand on her arm, caressing it to try to calm her down.
"You'll know when it's time."
"Hey? But... You... You like me!"
"I know."
"Is it okay with you that I don't know anything?"
"Yes."
Ginny shook her head in disbelief. Sometimes it was hard to keep up with Luna. Although could she complain? At least Luna was smart enough to know what she was feeling.
"There are bigger problems than this. Like our OWL exams next year... Or if you get to make the Gryffindor Quidditch team!" Said Luna.
"Are you serious?"
"Yes. Why would I not be?"
Ginny's shoulders shook until the laughter escaped her. She looked down at her arm, where Luna's hand continued to caress her gently and calmly.
"And us?" Ginny asked.
"Us what?"
"What are we?"
Luna looked up again, uttering a very low "hmn".
"I still think a word is not necessary. It's just us. What else should we think about?"
"But Luna! You feel something for me. We can't just be friends."
"No? Why?"
"Ugh... my head hurts."
A giggle escaped Luna. Ginny's lips quirked up in response, even though she didn't want to.
"I'm not in a rush, if that's your concern. I like who we are, whatever this is. If it changes later, let it change. And if not, don't."
"And what are we?"
"I don't know if there are any words to describe something as unique as the relationship of two people."
"Uh... And the word girlfriend? Or couple, romantic relationship...?"
Luna shook her head seriously.
"I'm fine with what we are," she insisted.
"I don't understand what we are!"
"You and me, Ginny," she laughed. "It's just us being together. I don't feel like I need anything else."
"What if I feel jealous again?"
"Well... you tell me. No? She resolved. If you feel something, say it. And if not, also."
"And that's it? So simple?"
"Yes."
Ginny snorted, stifling a laugh.
"And will you always tell me what you feel?"
"Sure," she said, and suddenly sat down on the sand, to stand up.
Ginny was a little taken aback, as she watched Luna shake the fabric of her dress to remove the stuck sand.
"You coming?" Asked Luna.
Ginny jumped up in response. She turned around to see where the stairs would be to go up, but Luna grabbed her shoulder, drawing her attention. She was surprised to see her quite close to her face, as she slowly scanned it with her gaze. Finally, Luna climbed to meet her eyes, outlining a big smile brimming with happiness.
"It's not cloudy anymore."
Ginny's confused face must have been funny to see, but Luna didn't flinch, she just took a step back so as not to keep invading the other's personal space so much.
"May I give you a kiss?"
Ginny froze. "Luna wasn't kidding about honesty," she thought, trying to remember how to use her mouth to speak.
"Yeah," Ginny said, her throat feeling dry.
Luna approached then, breaking the distance for the second time, resting one of her hands on Ginny's cheek and the other on her shoulder. She stood on tiptoe and kissed her free cheek. It was a silly kiss, one that any friend could have given her. But it was Luna who did it, not just anyone. Her cheeks flushed, because she had imagined something else, but this did not disappoint her either. Whatever they had, she liked it. Because they were Luna and her, and that made her happy.
"GINNY?!" Yelled a third.
The named turned around, but did not see anyone.
"UP HERE, TROLL BRAIN!" Another voice yelled.
Looking up, she spotted Pansy and Hermione, who were leaning over the railing. If it weren't for the street lamps, she might not have recognized them.
"WHAT ARE YOU DOING DOWN THERE?!" Hermione said.
"We climbed?" Luna asked, as she began to walk towards the exit of the beach. Ginny had no choice but to follow her.
Hermione and Pansy were waiting for them at the bottom of the stairs, and they all crossed the street together.
"And what are you doing out here?" Ginny returned once they reached the entrance of the bar.
"Talking," Hermione replied.
Ginny narrowed her eyes suspiciously, looking at Hermione's clothing to see if there were any traces of sand. Did she really have sex on the beach?
"What are you doing Ginny?" Hermione asked with an arched brow.
"Look all you want it's the only thing you can get," Pansy scoffed, sticking her tongue out childishly.
Then Ginny glared at her. What an idiot! She knew there was no lewd gesture in her scrutiny. She was just making sure to take care of her best friend's virtue! (Or well... try to figure out something to make fun of her, it just didn't sound as noble.)
"Don't be jealous, Pansy," Luna soothed. "Ginny likes a lot of people, but not Hermione."
"What...? I… Luna, don't say those things," she muttered, dead from shame .
Pansy laughed out loud, as she started to walk to the door of the bar to go back inside.
"You're an idiot," Hermione said in a scolding tone, contradicted by her half smile.
Pansy in response put her arm around Hermione's shoulders as she said, "Oh please, I'm wonderful!"
By Merlin, Ginny thought as she rolled her eyes as Hermione began to blush and avoided Pansy's gaze. Her best friend was so stunned by that snake that it was sad to see her.
"They're so pretty," Luna sighed, following them.
Ginny shook her head in exasperation. She just prayed she never looked as pathetic as that pair while in love. She walked too, to meet everyone.
"Do you want to dance with me, Ginny?" Luna asked as they descended the stairs.
"You mean your weird jumps?" She teased her, and when Luna nodded, she added, "Of course."
Pansy's giggle echoed, as she muttered something about the misfortune of not having a camera to photograph the Weasleys making a fool of themselves. Ginny didn't regret it, not even if Hermione had yelled at her that she was a brute, when she pushed Pansy almost causing her to fall down the stairs.
"You could have killed me!" Pansy complained, holding the railing. She almost looked like an upset cat: bristling, digging its claws in for stability.
"Wow, what a disgrace. And I without a watch nearby to know the time of your death, one of the best moments of my life!" Ginny sneered.
"It's a quarter to three in the morning," Luna said. "I always carry a watch with me."
"The hands on that clock aren't moving," Hermione murmured, who seemed to be struggling to stay calm.
"And yet I always get everywhere on time!" Luna cheered.
Notes:
Did you see this ship coming? Linny was in great demand among my Spanish readers. When I started this fanfic, I never thought about making this ship. But ... everyone got so excited about Linny that I ended up loving them too HAHAHAHA.
In any case, I did it in an unusual way because I consider that they are still very young and have a long time to finish defining what they are, if at some point in their lives they do...
So everyone happy! They have all the time in the world, after all Ginny and Luna are 15 years old at most. Actually, I can't remember if they were 14... I think Ginny was... Agh. Sorry. The two subjects that gave me the worst in school were English and mathematics... xD
Anyway! Hope you enjoyed Linny's little fanfic moments.
