Chapter 48 – A Selfish Desire
"You have a kid?" Rainbow asked, "Why didn't you tell me about this?"
"I didn't know!" he told her in a panic, "I told you about that time I got my curse."
"Curse?" the shaman asked.
"But not that you had a KID with her!" Rainbow countered.
"She never sent any notice or a transmission. I gave her the communicator!" Breeze said.
"Then what about that whole married thing?" the blue pegasus asked.
"She made that up, I never married her." he pleaded.
"It is custom that you are married to the one you unite with." Cya-O-Ur announced.
"That's not how that works anywhere else!" he announced, "And you never told me that when I saved you!" The shaman simply smirked again, "You…did that on purpose!" he said with a wave of newfound anger.
"Either way, you can change back now." she said.
"You think I can just change on a whim?" he asked her in anger, "And even if I could change, I'd stay exactly like this, I like being a pony!"
She looked to him in surprise, "But, I saw you here in your human form!" she said, and then shook her head, "Either way, what is with this 'Breeze' nonsense?"
"That's his name!" Rainbow Dash said, "Cosmic Breeze. The name I gave to him after we raced for the first time!"
"You NAMED HIM?" she asked in anger, "I was supposed to name him! My vision said I was the one to complete our union and make him a part of our life!"
"Too bad, so sad!" the pegasus announced.
"Mother, if I may…" the small child asked, and was quickly silenced by the much larger woman.
"Not now honey mommy's arguing with this thing!" she said.
"I'm a PEGASUS!" Rainbow Dash lashed out in her anger.
"I think I made a huge mistake." Breeze said to himself'
"YOU THINK!" both females asked in anger.
"I didn't know!" he repeated himself in a timid voice.
The two females turned to each other once again to argue, and a few moments later he felt a small hand gently grip his foreleg. He looked to his side, eyeing the small child as the boy looked up to him, "They will not notice, can we move on?" he asked.
"Um…sure?" the unicorn said nervously and was glad for the distraction.
The two moved on through the city, the small boy next to him as they just moved in silence. "My name is Lau-R-Tor." he said suddenly.
"Nice to meet you." Breeze said, and then sighed deeply, "I just wish I could have met you under better circumstances."
"I too disagree with my mother's method." the boy said, his eyes still wide with curiosity.
"You…have a pretty big vocabulary there, don't you?" the unicorn said, and the two once again fell to silence, with Breeze himself breaking it with a sigh of frustration, "That woman picked the worst time to spring this on me."
"You are unsatisfied?" Lau-R-Tor asked.
"Well, it's just that I finally found the one I can't live without and your mother just come out of nowhere to steal me away because she never told me about you." he said, and instantly regretted his wording, "Not, that I'm upset at you…"
"I think I understand." the boy said, and turned back to the pony, "Are you happy with your new friend?"
"Absolutely." Breeze said and then flattened his ears in sadness, "But now, I don't know if she's going to be happy with me."
"I fear that damage will be done, but wounds will heal with time and attention." the boy said, and turned to the grey unicorn, watching as a small smile appeared.
"You got your mom's ability for future telling huh?" Breeze asked.
"My mother has tainted the power of her sight." the boy said darkly, catching Breeze by surprise, "When a shaman uses their sight, they must keep their mind clear and unbiased, but she yearns for a particular outcome. Her greed is why she has failed in seeing the truth of today, and suddenly torn the true future asunder to be placed back together by those who choose their own path."
"You…got some sage thing going on in that head of yours?" he asked.
The boy turned his head back to his father, his eyes dark and narrow in slight anger that suddenly faded into nothingness. "My apologies." he said, "And, yes, you may call me Lau."
"Oh." Breeze asked and suddenly smiled in glee, "Ok!" The smile he had on his face lit up brightly, "Wanna go see if we can find some rides?"
"Are you asking me that because you want to keep from remembering the nightmares?" Lau asked in genuine curiosity.
Somehow, Breeze was neither surprised by this response, nor amused by the fact that this boy knew of his old nightmares, "Wanna run that by me again, Squirt?" he asked, and then looked around, "Actually I just wanted to get to know you some more. You know, as a dad should."
"I see." Lau said, and looked around, "Perhaps we can arrange a meeting with the rest of your team?"
"Sorry Buddy, the last thing I want is my brother getting involved." Breeze said, "Because he'd never stop telling me that he told me so!"
Lau simply chuckled at the notion, and placed his hand to the side of the unicorn, "You've got a soft coat." the boy said.
"I take very good care of my fur." Breeze said with pride. The two were brought out of their chat when Rainbow Dash, in tears, flew right by them. "Dashie?" he asked, and turned to look the shaman right in the eyes, "What did you do?"
"Does it matter, we can leave together now." Cya-O-Ur said in a huff, he could tell that she too was angry.
"I'm not going anywhere with you!" he told her as he pointed his hoof to her, "You reenter my life on the fly, drop a surprise kid on me, then make the one pony in the galaxy I care deeply about cry and you think I'm just gonna take you back after all this?" his anger rose as he spoke to her, listing all the evil she had recently done, "Are you delusional? I'm going back to Rainbow Dash, and I'm gonna make sure you didn't do hurt her!"
"Ah but I'm not the one who hurt her. You are!" she said, a smirk appearing where the frown used to be as he froze with uncertainty, "So many secrets, so many mistakes. Just how is she going to keep up? And the assassinations? How many does she know about? Were you even planning on telling her just how many you've killed? She'll never trust you now, I've made sure of that. So, let's go home. Back to the temple on my planet where we can live out our lives the way destiny has revealed to me. I'm all that's left for you now."
She took a single step towards him, the grin growing as she believed his hope faded for his pegasus, "Hop on kid." he said darkly, "Let's go meet my brother."
"Good." she said as Lau climbed up to the back of his father, "A chance to say goodbye to…"
"If I left him with you, he'd never get the chance to truly live. I won't let you hurt him either." Breeze said darkly, catching her off guard, "You don't deserve to be his mother." And with that, he ran, his four legs silently striking the ground as hard as he could, "Hold on tight and hold your breath!" Breeze said and waited until he could feel the grip tighten, then suddenly vanished in a ring of dust. He never looked back to her. Air Flash after Air Flash he traveled, disappearing and then reappearing some distance ahead until he was sure he had lost her. A simple few dozen yards away from the garage door, and out of breath, exhausted from the attempt. He saw them, Blade and Applejack standing in the door frame as the two of them glared at him, only to look at him in surprise as they finally saw the child on his back,
"This is going to need some explaining." Blade said in shock.
"What in tarnation…?" the orange earth pony followed up.
"First things first." Breeze said as he interrupted the two ponies, "Where's Rainbow Dash?"
The two ponies stopped in surprise; they had only once seen him with so much anger. So, Blade lifted one of his wings and used it to point down the hall towards the personal rooms. Breeze passed on by, lifting the small boy off of his back and gently setting him onto the back of his brother before racing off and down the hall. He was halfway when everything struck him, and he slowed down, his eyes open wide with shock of his own actions, "Oh sweet Celestia, what have I done?"
