"I'm not sure what she wants me to say," Theo sighed, carding his hands through his hair. He looked up at Daphne standing over him and offered a shrug. "I tried talking to her, but.."
Theo's voice trailed off, pulling Daphne's attention away from watching the owls fly overhead. With a sigh, she leaned down and sat beside him. Placing a gentle hand on his back, Daphne offered a smile. "But she won't listen to you?"
"Not like you," Theo replied, shrugging his shoulders as he glanced at Daphne out of the corner of his eye.
"I don't listen," Daphne scoffed, rolling her eyes. "I judge from a distance as I eavesdrop on a conversation I'm not supposed to know is happening."
"No, you don't," Theo said, leaning into her with his shoulder. He laughed softly at the appalled look on her face for him bumping her. "You give off this hard exterior, but everyone knows you're a big old softie."
"I am anything but soft," Daphne replied, shaking her head as she laughed to herself. "Except where I'm supposed to be soft."
"See, you don't take everything so seriously, and you aren't afraid to laugh about stupid things," Theo laughed, watching as Daphne cupped her breasts, squeezing them. "And you aren't afraid to make a fool out of yourself to make someone feel better. Zabini's a lucky guy."
Daphne glanced at him out of the corner of her eye and fought the urge she felt to roll her eyes. "We don't need to talk about Blaise."
Theo looked her up and down as he cocked his head to the side. "And why not?"
"Because he's an arse, and I'd rather not think about him when we're talking about your floundering relationship with my sister," Daphne insisted, narrowing her eyes at him. "Understood?"
"You know we don't always have to talk about my relationship," Theo teased, reaching over to drape an arm over her shoulder. "We can talk about what's going on with you, too. It's a two-way street this friendship of ours."
"I don't want to talk about him," Daphne replied, pulling away from Theo's arms. "He doesn't understand the way I work or why I am the way that I am. He's always trying to get me to be a nicer person. I don't want to be a nicer person. I like being me and the head bitch in charge."
Theo tossed his head back with a laugh, leaning back against the balcony of the owlery. This was one of the things that Theo loved about his friendship with Daphne. She wasn't afraid to be herself, and she certainly wasn't afraid to speak whatever came across her mind.
"Look," Daphne said, pulling Theo's attention back from his thoughts. "As for Tori, just keep doing what you're already doing. She'll either come around, or you'll decide you finally deserve someone who wants you for everything you are."
"You know, I could give you the same advice about Zabini," Theo said, flashing a smile at her.
"I told you," Daphne said, poking him in the nose with her fingertip. "We aren't going to talk about him."
"Fine, fine," Theo said, holding his hands up and shook his head. "What do you want to talk about?"
Daphne opened her mouth to say something but stopped when she heard giggling coming up the stairs. "We are about to be interrupted," she huffed, rolling her eyes as she pushed herself up off the ground. She walked over to the top of the stairs and crossed her arms over her chest, waiting for the giggling to get closer.
A smirk pulled at her lips when Daphne saw Padma and Micheal round the corner and stopped short at the bottom of the last set up steps. "Can I help you?" she asked, raising a brow. "Corner, I thought you were sleeping with the youngest Weasley. I'm sure Gossip Witch would love a hot tip."
Padma's eyes went wide as she turned to face Micheal. "You told me that you two broke up!" she yelled, smacking his shoulder. She turned back to Daphne and hung her head. "Sorry to interrupt, Daphne. Just wanted a quiet place to snog since Gossip Witch set out a list of hot spots, and all the good ones were taken."
Padma glanced past Daphne and saw Theo sitting on the ground with his head leaned back. She fought the urge she felt to roll her eyes. "Hypocrite," she mumbled under her breath as she turned on her heels.
"What was that?" Daphne called, resting her hip on the handrail.
"Nothing," Padma said, hurrying away with a panicked look on her face.
"That's what I thought," Daphne laughed, a smile beaming proudly from her face as she watched Micheal run away like a puppy with its tail between its legs. Slowly she turned back to look at Theo, furrowing her brow when she noticed him staring at a piece of parchment. "What's that?"
"Newest Gossip Witch blast," Theo huffed, offering the piece of parchment out to her.
Daphne took it from him and scanned it quickly. "For Merlin's sake," she huffed, crumbling the paper up to her in her hand. "Incendio."
"We should probably get out of here," Theo said, pushing himself up off the ground.
"You go ahead," Daphne said, keeping an intent eye on the flame in her hand. "I've got to clear my mind first."
