A/N: Hi, friends! How are we? Feeling a little cheated after last week? Yeah. We're not ready for that. Not quite. But hang in there. It'll happen. It'll be magical. It'll be under the stars. Someone's going to roll over and get scraped up by a rock. John Tesh will be playing. It'll be an evening. But for now, let's see what's going to go down here. No one, but we need some soft for a bit, ok? Let's go be soft.
The next morning, L woke up and felt Light's chest rise and fall under him. His bare chest. L's skin on Light's. No…There's no way Light was that adventurous last night. I know he's been doing his best to make me feel better after London, but did he really go the extra mile? L thought back to last night. He remembered the game of twenty questions Light put him through, but he didn't know quite how that game ended. Did we have sex last night?
L rolled over and checked the clock. Two o'clock. It's two o'clock. We must have slept hard. L knew what a cruel mistress jet lag could be. Even with his own manic sleep schedule. There's no way we didn't have sex last night. Why else would we both be this naked? But…Maybe someone else would know better. L gave Light a little nudge, "Light…Light, wake up."
"Hmm?" Light didn't want to move. Light didn't want to wake up. Light just wanted to keep L where he was.
"I need you to fill in some gaps for me," L cuddled into him, "What happened last night?"
"Don't worry," Light pulled L into his chest, "We didn't do anything. Nothing happened."
"Ok," L let out a little sigh of relief. But he couldn't help but wonder, "Why not?"
"You fell asleep," Light told him, "I wasn't waking you up. We went to sleep."
"Oh," L shut his eyes again. Wait…I missed out on sex with Light and it was my fault? "You could've woken me up, Light. I wouldn't have had a problem with that."
"No…" Light sat up in bed, knowing he wasn't going back to sleep, "No way. I'm not that stupid. You would've bitten me."
"Really?" L hid a smirk in Light's neck, "Since when is that a problem?"
"L," Light held back a little moan, "We just woke up. You might want to pump the breaks a little."
"No," L left a trail of kisses from Light's neck to his collarbone, alternating between kisses and gentle bites. You know how I tick, Light, but don't you think for a second that I don't know how you work, too. I've learned quite a bit, but I can get you into some things, "We don't need to slow down. Half asleep sex is amazing. Don't you worry. We're not having sex yet. I'm not going to force you into it. I can understand no meaning no. Unrelated note, though. When is our checkout time?"
"Four," Light's breathing picked up. What is he doing? Not that I'm complaining, but…
"Fine," L got out of bed and threw some pants on, "I'm going to go order room service. Maybe you could indulge me just a little bit."
"And how were you wanting that?" Light wondered, rolling onto his side.
"I don't know," L glanced out the window, melting at the memories of the last time they were in Odaiba, "You're more than welcome to that pool down there."
"You know," Light pushed himself out of bed, "I was thinking about the pool. Just for a little while. Is that ok with you?"
"That's fine," L allowed, "As long as I still get to watch."
Light stole a quick kiss. You're not the only one that can play dirty, "I was hoping you would."
Oh, Light…You little slut. L went over to the phone and kept an eye on Light, "Did you want anything while I was here?"
"I'll be fine," Light brushed him off, kissing his cheek, "I'll be back soon."
"Take your time," L insisted, "I'll be here."
"I know."
As Light left the room, L watched, appreciating his favorite view. How I hate to see you go, but damn, do I love to watch you leave. L ordered his breakfast of a well made strawberry shortcake and made himself comfortable in front of the window. Alright, Light. What kind of show do you have for me today? L couldn't help himself. He could appreciate art in many forms. Not many know that. But there was no piece he loved more than Light perched comfortably by the pool with the sun shining down on him.
And Light knew L was watching. Although there were too many people around for him to do anything overly drastic, he spent most of his time, hiding in the water. Only to poke out once in a while for air. L knows where to find me. If he needs me, he can come down here and get me himself. But L stayed in the room, watching Light from the window, indulging himself in some cake while Light swam around.
However, as Light was getting out of the pool (for the third time), a sudden beep caught L by surprise. He threw himself out of his chair out of sheer surprise. Ow…L got up from the floor and walked over to the nightstand to check his phone. And a blank lock screen. Didn't you just go off? Or was that not me? L checked Light's phone instead, knowing Light wouldn't have much of a problem with it. As far as secrets go, they didn't exactly keep much from each other. And L knew better than for Light to be cheating on him, so that mystery was out of the relationship. Huh…The name on his phone made L smile. Hello, Sayu.
When are you coming home?
L was left with a difficult choice. He thought for a moment whether or not to answer. We've been home since yesterday, but Watari's sworn to secrecy. I'm sure Light wouldn't mind if I answered this. Would he? No…Of course not. L tapped on Sayu's text and opened up Light's phone.
Today
We'll be back in a couple hours.
That should be enough to settle Sayu's curiosities. L couldn't wipe the smile off his face. He had a soft spot for Light's sister. Not nearly in the way their father thought, but he knew that if all else failed, if he royally screwed up with Light, L knew he could always count on Sayu for advice. If not that, at least a friendly ear to vent to. L wasn't one to make friends quickly, if at all, but he made one in Sayu. And he loved her in her own way. I miss you, too, Sayu.
As L went back to Light's home screen, he noticed something new in his wallpaper. Two familiar faces completely naked with one of them asleep on Light's shoulder. When did you take this? Last night? You had to have taken this last night. When else have we fallen asleep like that? Rather, when have I ever fallen asleep before you? That doesn't happen. L went into Light's pictures and sent the selfie from last night to his phone. I can't let you keep that one to yourself.
Then, out of nowhere, L had the worst, overwhelming homesickness he has ever had. Something about the mixture of Light's picture and Sayu's text made his chest ache. We need to go. We're this close. We can go home now. I appreciate what this trip was supposed to be for us, Light, but we need to go home. We shouldn't keep Sayu waiting. And God only knows what the task force has done to Watari since we've been gone. Our paradise in the middle of hell was nice, but it's time for us to go back to what we're supposed to be doing.
L grabbed their bags and started heading downstairs. He left them with the front desk and went straight to the pool. Although, when Light looked up at the window, he was confused. Where the hell did you go? He swam another couple laps and hid again, hoping to see L in the window again. Still, nothing. Did I really get you that riled up? Or…Light didn't think he was being that much of a tease. There's no way he's pissed off…Right? All of his questions were answered as soon as he popped back out of the water. And found L perched at the edge of the pool.
"Hi," Light laid his head on the concrete, "Is everything ok?"
"Get out," L demanded, "We need to go."
"L?" Light went into immediate panic mode, "Is everything ok?"
"Everything's fine," L assured him, pulling him out of the pool, "It's just…I want to go home. Is that alright?"
"Is it?" Light wondered. He doesn't look like he's on the verge of falling apart. In the good way or the bad way.
"Yeah," L promised, "Light, I'm fine. I'm glad you're concerned, but there's no reason to be. It's been a long weekend. I want to go home. With you is preferable."
"I'd hope so," Light pulled himself out of the water, "Ok. Let's go home."
"By the way," L threw him a towel, "Your sister misses you."
"Aww…" Light melted inside, "That's sweet. When did you talk to Sayu?"
"I didn't exactly talk to Sayu," L confessed, "She texted you. She wanted to know when you were coming home. I didn't think there'd be anything wrong with texting her back.
"From my phone or yours?"
"Yours," L told him, a little smile on his face, "By the way…I like your new wallpaper, Light."
"My new…?" Light thought for a minute or two. Oh, shit. That's right. He shook off the slight panic, "I thought you would."
"When was that picture taken?" L asked, "Just out of curiosity."
"Last night," Light admitted, "I couldn't pass that up. It's not often I get to see something like that."
"I understand." I'd want that framed, too. Probably not for the same reasons. I'm not that vain.
"Besides," Light shrugged, hiding the smirk on his face, "It was too cute not to."
Immediately, L started changing colors. His face turned a light shade of pink that he wasn't expecting. And he took Light's hand, "You know, Light, if I didn't love you, I'd push you out of a moving car for saying things like that."
"Likewise," Light kissed L's cheek, "Home then?"
"Home." L liked the thought of that. Of having somewhere he could call home with Light. Although, he was quickly starting to learn that home was anywhere he could be with Light and not feel uptight about it. Their hotel room in Odaiba was home. L's house in London when it was just the two of them was home. The Chelsea Embankment after the incident with Near was home. Their apartment in the task force headquarters was home. Even the entire car ride back to the tower was home. And L liked his new home.
When they got back to the tower, L and Light went straight into their apartment and L flattened out on the couch, more content with life than he had ever been before. The weekend might have been its own special hell, but this? This is nice. This is much better. Without thinking about it, Light cuddled up next to him, shutting his eyes and appreciating L's newfound meaning of home. Not that L was complaining.
"Light…" L kept his voice down.
"Hmm?" Light looked up at him, his eyes having that same sparkle that L fell in love with in the first place.
"Thank you," L gave him a soft, gentle kiss, "For…This."
"You're welcome," Light curled into L's chest, "I know it didn't go the way you had hoped, but the least I could've done was make it a little better."
"And you did."
"Just wait until the case is over," Light teased him a bit, "And then, every day can be Odaiba."
"Are you ready for something like that, though?" L knew what waited for them after the case. And he had a feeling about the aftermath. I know you're not exactly desperate for your father's approval, Light, but I also know that if you made a decision that would knock you down from his pedestal, it'd devastate you in a way that I don't know if I'd be able to clean up. I love you and I'd do what I could, but I don't think I'd be enough after something like that.
"Are you?" Light retaliated. I know you'd worry like hell about me, but I'd be fine. I know Dad would say something like how unprofessional it'd be to be dating my boss, but I'd be able to get through it. At the end of the day, it's not his decision, it's mine. And I'm deciding you. We'd be fine. If it came down to that, I think I have a feeling I know what you would do. It's the only loophole you'd have.
"I never even gave me a thought," L confessed, "I'm sure we'd get past the awkward stage eventually. And if it continues to be uncomfortable, then that's whoever's fault, not ours. I'd have you. You'd have me. Everything would be fine. Right?"
"I think so." It's hard to believe I ever hated him.
"You don't need to worry," L kissed the top of Light's head, "I'll figure something out, I'm sure."
"No," Light shot him down, lacing his fingers between L's, "We'll figure something out. You don't need to carry that burden on your own."
L's heart skipped a beat, "You know…I might actually fall for you."
"L," Light giggled, "Were we not laying naked in a hotel room in Odaiba just a few hours ago?"
"You could've been a casual."
"Really?" Light knew better, "You'd treat me like a casual?"
"You're right," L folded like a cheap suit, "I couldn't dare treat you like a casual. I can barely treat you like my assistant while we're working."
"That's what I thought."
"You know what, though?" L held him a little tighter, "All things considered, with the omission of the bad parts, this weekend wasn't half bad."
"Half bad?" Light scoffed, "L, you confronted your clingiest ex while your bitchiest ex accused me of being vanilla. Are we really going to call that a not half bad weekend?"
"I was thinking of a nicer way to say dumpster fire," L laughed a bit, "But you're right. It was, in fact, a colossal mess and I hated it, too. Odaiba was alright, though."
"And we'll be ok," Light assured him, "We'll be fine."
"I know," L had Light. L had a safe place again. That's all that mattered, "You know what we should do now?"
"Dinner?" Light suggested, "I'm…kind of hungry. I didn't get to eat today."
"I can do dinner," L allowed.
"Maybe…" Light thought, "With a plus one?"
L froze a bit, "What do you mean, a plus one? And that would all depend on who the plus one would be."
"Just hold on," Light grabbed his phone off the coffee table and scrolled through his contacts. Come on. Pick up. I know you're posting.
"Hi, Light!" Sayu chimed on the other end.
"Absolutely," L would never say no to Sayu. And Light knew it.
"Hi, L!" Sayu heard him, too.
"Sayu says hi," Light relayed the message, "Are you doing anything tonight?"
"Can't say I am," Sayu thought, "Why? Are you?"
"L and I were about to go get dinner," Light told her, "You wouldn't want to tag along, would you?"
"Are you home?!" Even if there wasn't a phone between them, Light still could've heard his sister clear as a bell.
"Yeah," Light rolled his eyes. Spazz.
"I'll be ready in twenty minutes."
"Be there soon."
