Chapter 49-Supply problems
One Month Later
Shane's P.O.V
Shane opens his eyes and looks at the ceiling. He could feel Madison beside him. Shane lets out a sigh as he turns his body and puts his feet on the ground. He grabs the eyepatch on the nightstand and puts it on his eye. Glenn and Dean had brought it back from a run about a week ago. He puts his shirt on and walks to the door. He walks down the stairs and sees John in the living room with Charlie and Lizzie playing a board game. "Morning, John," Shane says to him. John gives him a nod as Shane walks outside. He looks around. They had about 30 percent of the wall done. They have taken days to gather supplies for the walls, camp and take days to rest when needed. Shane looks at the field where Eastman was standing with Morales and Morgan, who both had their own staff now. Shane takes a deep breath and walks down the stairs. He walks towards the gate. He looks at Emily, who was on watch with Martinez.
"You want out?" Emily asks him. Shane nods, and Emily opens the door and lets him out. He hears the gate close behind him. Shane walks the wall walking around the trench they were building at the same time. They have been splitting the group up. One half was digging, and the other was building the wall. It slowed down progress on the wall, but it makes everybody safer. Shane pulls out his machete as he gets to the first walker in the trench. He stabs the walker in the head and puts his machete away, and grabs the walker by its arm. He pulls it out of the trench and lays it down. T-dog or Abraham would take a few people every day or two and load the walkers up and drive them somewhere to burn them. He continues to walk down the trench, only coming across two more walkers until he reaches the end and heads back to the house. He walks up the steps and sees Madison waiting for him.
"We usually do that together," Madison says to Shane, who nods.
"I know, just needed some time to clear my head," Shane tells her. Madison nods as she grabs his hand and leads him to the chairs. Shane sits down as Madison looks at him.
"I think you should talk to Eastman," Madison says to him. "I've seen you getting up at night and coming out here. You don't have to tell me why, but I think you should talk to him," Shane nods.
"Okay, I'll talk to Eastman," Shane tells Madison, who nods.
"You should wait until after they get done. He has been making a lot of progress with Morgan and Morales," Madison says.
"I can't imagine going through what they are," Shane tells her.
"I can't either," Shane tells her. "Eastman seems like he is getting them through it," Madison nods as they go inside.
Rosita's P.O.V
Rosita was in the basement counting the food they had with Tara. She hasn't said anything to the other woman. She writes on the piece of paper she had. Tara was in the other room counting their weapons and ammo. "How long have you been with them?" Tara asks her. Rosita looks up and towards the other room.
"About two months," Rosita tells her. "I was with Abraham and Eugene," She looks at her chart. "Fuck, we won't last two months with the amount of food we have. We have too many people, and winter is coming, so we can't grow food until spring, or until we get a greenhouse,"
"You should go tell Daryl and Shane," Tara says. Rosita nods as she sets the chart down, goes upstairs, and walks into the kitchen where Daryl, Alicia, John, Daniel, and Strand. Daryl looks at her.
"Is there a problem?" Daryl asks.
"We will run out of food in the next two months faster if we bring in more people. We need more food," Rosita says.
"There are two food banks in town," Daryl says.
"Why haven't we cleared them?" Daniel asks.
"They're overrun. John and I have seen them," Alicia says.
"How many are we talking?" Strand asks.
"Two dozen each at least. I think someone locked them in there," John says.
"We can't spare too many people. We need to get a move on this wall," Daryl says.
"John and I can take one," Alicia says.
"No, by yourselves, you just said there are too many walkers," Daryl says.
"We can't spare the muscle," Alicia says.
"I know," Daryl says. "Okay, take Haley and Sam. They should be enough. They have been helping Eugene," Daryl tells them. "You two are taking another person," Daryl says to Daniel and Strand.
"Who?" Daniel asks.
"Morgan," Daryl says.
"Morgan? Are you sure?" Strand asks.
"Yeah, take Morgan and Carol. I would say Jim, but he is our leading man on the trench," Daryl says.
"He did dig all those holes back at the quarry," Alicia says.
"I know," Daryl says as he walks towards the door.
"Where are you going?" Alicia asks.
"I'm going to fix the problem, too," Daryl tells them.
"How?" Alicia asks.
"Traps. I'm going to set traps in the woods with Charlie. The kid needs something to do," Daryl says. "It will also help our food if we get something,"
Alicia nods as Daryl leaves the house. "What about me?" Rosita asks.
"Eugene could use help," Daniel says. Rosita chuckles as she leaves.
Daniel's P.O.V
Daniel drives the U-Haul down the road with Alicia behind him with the truck and the U-Haul trailer. Morgan and Carol were in the back. Carol had her knife, and Morgan had his staff. They get to town and break off from Alicia, and head towards one of the foodbanks. Daniel stops the U-Haul outside of the foodbank and backs it up a little, so the back is facing the foodbank. Daniel turns off the U-Haul and climbs out. He walks up to the store. Strand, Morgan, and Carol stand behind him. "So what is the plan?" Strand asks. Daniel looks at the door which walkers were pressing themselves up against. Daniel looks at the ones on the glass.
"I am figuring that out. If we open the door, they could break it, and that wouldn't be good," Daniel looks at the glass, which wasn't too big. "May I see your staff?" Morgan nods as he hands it to Daniel. Daniel walks up to the glass and breaks it.
"Daniel, what the hell?" Strand asks. Daniel hands Morgan his staff and pulls out his knife as the first walker starts to climb through the window. He stabs it in the head. The walker falls limp, blocking the other walkers from coming through as they reach of the four people.
"Well, that kinda worked," Carol says. Daniel looks at them.
"Let's kill as many as possible through the window," Daniel says. Morgan goes forward with his staff and stabs a walker in the head, and pulls it out. Carol and Daniel start to kill the walkers with him. Strand looks behind them.
"Daniel, it seems like your stunt has brought some friends," Strand says. Daniel turns around and looks at the walkers coming towards them from the street.
"You two kill these walkers. I'll help Strand," Daniel says. Morgan and Carol nod as Daniel walks over to Strand. He walks past the man and over to the first walker. He stabs it in the eye as Strand kills another one beside him. Daniel and Strand kill the walkers together. Strand pushes the last one to the ground and looks at Carol and Morgan, who had backed away from the window. Daniel and Morgan walk over to them.
"There are still a few more left," Morgan says.
"Carol get the door," Strand says. Carol slowly nods and opens the door. The first walker comes out, and Morgan stabs it in the head. Strand, Morgan, and Daniel take turning killing the walkers. Daniel kills the last one and shines his flashlight inside.
Alicia's P.O.V
Alicia, John, Haley, and Sam had cleared the walkers. They looked at the bodies. "Let's get this done quickly. There may be more," Alicia says as they enter the building. Alicia shuts the door as a gunshot goes off, echoing inside the building.
Thanks for reading. This was a fun chapter to do, and it was fun to work with Daniel and Strand, who I love a lot. The next chapter will continue with Alicia and Daniel's group and Daryl in the woods, and Shane's talk with Eastman, which will start the next part of his story. As always, suggestions, ideas, and feedback are welcomed. Until next time.
