Adeleine woke up, her eyes were dry and tired. She hadn't fallen asleep about 3am when she cried herself to sleep, putting a silencing charm around her bed so that she wouldn't disturb Athena's slumber.
Flashbacks of the night before constantly played in her head and it haunted her in ways she couldn't imagine. She couldn't believe that Draco would do something to her like that and now she didn't know where they stood.
The problem was that Adeleine never knew which Draco she was talking to now. She couldn't tell if it was the mindless Marion controlled drone or her actual Draco. Now that she knew he was capable of hurting her in such a way she had never been hurt before, she couldn't tell the difference.
The Draco from yesterday seemed genuinely hurt and confused about the situation. Of course Adeleine felt it in her heart to want to forgive him almost immediately, but his actions were unforgiveable and she knew the limits to her blind kindness.
Athena was snoring like a pig and Adeleine realized that she had only slept about 4 hours. Her body was tired and she felt like absolute shit so she decided to skip classes that day, which is something that she had never done in her life.
So she woke up Athena like she always did and Athena was too tired to notice anything different about the girl. Adeleine told Athena she would catch up later and did not tell her that she was ditching classes.
She caught up on her sleep, skipping Potions and Transfiguration. It seemed Draco had a similar idea as hers and didn't show up to his classes either.
--
Blaise and Theo sat next to each other in Potions, wondering where their blond ferret was. The evil bitch sat in the back with a smirk on her face, never faltering once and Theo couldn't help, but be suspicious of it. Especially, since Ginny and Athena didn't know where Adeleine was either.
Marion hummed a jolly tune as she copied down notes from the board. Slughorn had told them to read chapter 45 of their textbook to understand the Polyjuice potion that Marion had a slight interest in.
Jackson was sitting next to an empty seat who was filled in by Pansy Parkinson who he had met recently for a nighttime rendezvous. He had intrigued him from the very beginning with her raven black hair and witty remarks.
After the night of getting to know the misunderstood girl, he took a liking to her. Apparently, the girl didn't have many friends in the Slytherin house and many people seemed to dislike her, but if they truly got to know her, they would know that she was a witty girl with a beautiful smile.
"Hey," Theo whispered to the girl in front of him.
Hannah turned around with a small smile. She and Theo had rarely spoken these days and she missed talking to him, not just because she liked him, but because he was a good conversationalist.
"Yes?" she asked and Theo melted into her eyes.
"Have you seen Addy?" Theo asked and Hannah shook her head with a small frown.
"Sorry, no," Hannah replied. "I haven't seen her all day and she missed Care of Magical Creatures today as well. It's not like her."
Theo nodded, "Because we can't find Malfoy either. Do you think something happened to them?"
Hannah shook her head no, "Addy can handle herself, but I wouldn't doubt that something didn't happen between the two with the rumor that's been going around."
"What are you talking about?" Theo asked, furrowing his brows confusedly.
It seems that this so-called rumor had not reached his ears or Blaise's because he had no clue what she was talking about. He could only imagine what the rumor was about and his imagination was far more tame than what it actually was.
Hannah shrugged, "Zacharias was talking about it at breakfast. He said that Malfoy has been using Addy this entire time because some people saw him with Marion."
Theo's mind contorted to confusion and Blaise had questions written all over his face. The two could not comprehend what Hannah had just said because they just would not believe that Draco would use Addy.
They knew that Draco loved Addy, no doubt in their minds, but considering what had been going on recently, they didn't disregard the idea that maybe Marion had coerced Draco into being with her by use of her veela persuasion.
Well now they knew why Addy hadn't gone to class. Either Addy believed the false rumors or the rumor were actually true. It was just that Theo and Blaise couldn't fathom the rumors even being remotely truthful when they were the ones to witness and listen to how Draco droned on and on about Adeleine.
"Who saw him with Marion?" Blaise asked and Marion smirked from behind, knowing that the rumors she spread were getting around. Although, they weren't rumors and she was just telling the truth in her own twisted way.
"I'm not sure of their names. I think one's name is Sofie and the other one is Brie, but they both went to Beauxbatons" Hannah answered. "They said that they saw the two kissing in the common room, apparently Addy caught them and now they've broken up."
Surely Malfoy would have told them if the two had actually broken up. The thing was, that there seemed to be some actual truth in the rumors because if there wasn't then Addy and Draco would be fine, still dating and in class.
"Thanks Hannah," Theo said with a smile and began to discuss his theories with Blaise.
"He wouldn't do that, right?" Blaise asked Theo and Theo wasn't so sure anymore.
They had all been so sure of Draco's devotion to Adeleine, but now that manipulation and veela magic had been thrown into the mix, they weren't so sure. It was hard to see Draco's real feelings opposed to his feelings when being manipulated by a veela.
"I-I don't know" he shrugged, shaking his head.
"He did" answered a voice from behind and Theo met the smirk of Marion Hart.
He sneered at the blond haired witch and would not believe any words that came out of her mouth. All she spoke were lies and she was the most untrustworthy person he had met.
"Do you have proof?" Blaise asked, interrupting the menacing staring contest that Theo was having with Marion.
"You know," Marion gazed towards the window, "His lips taste like mint. He tastes like spearmint toothpaste and a hint of apple." She gave a chuckle which Theo sneered at.
But could she lie about that? Would she lie about that? How would she know unless the kiss between the two actually happened? And if it was true, then why did Draco do it?
Questions swirled in their minds leaving Blaise and Theo more confused than ever. They were the two in a group to not be able to solve a mystery, while everyone who was gone could.
"You think he's still in his room?" Blaise asked Theo and he nodded.
"Probably" he answered, "We'll check on him during our free period."
Class went by fast and the first chance they got, they rushed off to the Slytherin dormitories to find Draco. Ginny and Athena had also gone to find Adeleine to listen to the whole story, instead of meaningless rumors that people were spreading.
Theo and Blaise furiously knocked on Draco's door, almost breaking it down. The room was silent, but Theo and Blaise both knew that Draco was in there.
"Mate" Blaise called out, "It's us. Just open the door."
"Fuck off!" Draco yelled weakly.
"Come on, we just want to talk. There's rumors going around" Theo explained, "And Addy didn't come to class today. We know something happened between the two of you."
Draco rolled his eyes and reluctantly opened the door to let his mates in the room. Theo and Blaise could see the indents of his first in the walls and the dried blood covering his knuckles.
"What the fuck happened mate?" Theo asked, shocked at the sight before him.
The room had been absolutely destroyed. It looked like Hogwarts during the battle. There were books scattered on the ground, some even slightly burnt. He could tell he casted many spells out of anger at the walls, bookshelves and even his bed.
The boy looked like he hadn't slept because truthfully, he hadn't. He had been up all night thinking about his mistakes and that if he even stayed there for a second longer that he would have known to have never doubted Adeleine.
Draco wasn't the most trusting person. He never trusted anyone before Blaise and Theo, but even for those two he was still cautious. His father, a person he thought that he could always trust sold him out to be a death eater to appease the Dark Lord. Maybe it was his daddy issues that led to his trust issues.
"I fucked up," Draco finally said after a long minute.
"You've got to explain more mate" said Blaise, "You fuck up all the time, but this one has had to been bad."
"I kissed Marion" he finally admitted and it felt as if a huge weight had been lifted off his shoulders.
Despite his many flaws, he knew that he could always count on Blaise and Theo. Even when Draco was absolutely in the wrong, Theo and Blaise would always back him up no matter what. It wasn't the blind loyalty that Crabbe and Goyle showed him, it was true friendship, something that Draco had never experienced before until them.
"I'm sorry" Theo said, shaking his head, "Say that again."
"I. Kissed. Marion" Draco enunciated every word and he felt as if the words stabbed him in the heart over and over again.
"What the actual fuck" Theo asked. "Why? How? What? Where? When?"
Blaise nodded, "What Theo said."
"It's kind of a long story," Draco started.
"And we've got the time."
--
Ginny and Athena were given the full story about the situation that had gone on and the two were very passionate about the situation.
"I swear to Merlin once I see that ferret again I will chop his balls off" Ginny threatened aggressively and Addy knew that she wasn't lying when she said it.
"And I will burn the veela bitch to death" Athena said creepily with a tight lipped smile. She avoided the name like it was a plague and everyone already knew who 'veela bitch' was.
"Why does this hurt more than Fred?" Adeleine suddenly asked and Ginny felt her heart sink.
"I don't know honey," Ginny said and Adeleine put her head in Ginny's lap.
"Like, whenever I think about him, it's as if my heart is debating whether or not to break or flutter" Adeleine said with a sigh and a lone tear slid down her cheek.
"Hey baby" Athena cooed, "We're here with you."
"And we always will be," Ginny finally said.
In that moment, Adeleine had never been more grateful for her friends in her entire life.
