May had taken place at the hospital roof hiding away from everyone. Her dad asked her and her friends to keep an eye on the Scraggy leader Scrafty who had a mysterious drug in his possession that granted him incredible strength. Zoey and Riley circled around the hospital area looking for anything suspicious that could endanger the punk leader.
An important witness police security inside was increased. Still recovering from his fight with Ash and Dawn and the withdrawal symptoms of the drug, he would recover first as the doctors were trying to filter out the drug in his system. Taking blood samples he was treated more as a test subject than a patient. With Cacturne maybe trying to cover his tracks he could send an assassin to delete the trial. May, Zoey and Riley took this shift of some sort while Ash and Dawn will take over tomorrow in protecting the druggie.
The three had gotten a quick plan of how the guards were positioned. The roof was empty as the cops would be guarding the stairs going inside instead. Nobody dared to stay on the roof with all the super powered people making it their territory. They opted they stay inside watching the staircase creating a funnel effect for anyone coming down. Anybody moving there would turn into Swiss cheese by the cops with assault rifles.
May in Glaceon look passed the time played with her own created snowballs. Juggling them the usually soft substance continued to hold its rigidness thanks to her constant cold touch.
"Behind you!" Her spirit partner shouted urging May to move. Dropping the balls of ice on the ground she quickly turned round. Seeing a figure in green with on his red hand a red rose and left blue May realized she could be in trouble.
"Roserade! Why are you here!?"
"I figured one of you could be here." After hearing about the shaolin being arrested in the amusement park and a person with plant powers the fighter figured Leafeon was in town as well. From his red rose hand a green saber came out of it. The red rose functioning as a hilt he pointed it at May.
"This is your chance to prove yourself. Step out of my way and show you really want to save this city by letting me near that guy that got admitted. I'll get the information out of him unlike the cops."
"So Zoey was right after all, even if it's the wrong person."
May flexed her muscles. Holding her hands out two batons formed in them. Even from the short interactions with Ash and Riley the trick of forming items by just thinking about them in ice form their help was appreciated. May spun them round as she held them in a way that blocked off her lower arms.
Roserade jumped off the unit he was on. Holding the saber right up he spun it in front of him and held it out to his side as he stepped closer to May. Still in her stance she waited for the first move. Roserade five steps away from her began to talk.
"This might be your city but you don't have a hold on crime. I'm just showing you how it's supposed to be. What you're supposed to do."
"You killing people isn't a good look on our image."
May was the first one to move. With a flick of the wrist baton in her left hand left the bottom of her forearm and now stuck out. Roserade blocked the strike with his saber as the baton just sticking out in May's right hand now aimed at Roserade's left leg. The rose fighter moved his sword expertly blocking that strike as well. May using her entire body as a weapon kicked upwards with Roserade moving back. Doing a piercing strike to her stomach May used a baton to catch the side of the sword and quickly hit him in the chest herself. May did a double strike on Roserade's left as weapons clashed. Locked into contact the rose fighter spoke again.
"I had this talk before with Leafeon if you know her. I do what is needed because you won't. You know you will eventually kill if you had a difficult choice. Would you kill another to save your own life? How about your loved ones? Would you let the criminal walk even if he cost you for example your mothers life?"
"I know that one day I might be put into that situation but it always should be a last resort. We have faith in the system."
Roserade pushed her off. A kick to May's legs swept her off her feet. Rolling through the fall Roserade stuck his saber into the roof as May rolled out of range. Throwing her batons at him the ice shattered against his chest. He let go off the sword in his right, a long pike now stuck in the roof. From his left blue rose a new green saber came out of it. May ran at him with two new batons made and they got into close combat again. Roserade went for piercing strikes and blocks while the heroine went for reflecting and quick hits.
The rose fighter saw an opening and pushed May off her feet. May on her back looked up as he placed his saber under her chin with the tip off his sword. May not scared she wasn't ready to give up as Roserade spoke again.
"Why do you work outside the law instead of with cops then if you trust it? You preach law and order but don't back it up. My law is simple. You do a crime there is no trial, no judge, only the risk of death. All this time you waste trying to capture someone instead of moving to the next. Just imagine how many got hurt because of your ego."
"The one with an ego is you! Chill out!"
May formed an ice path underneath her and slid back out of range of his saber and using the momentum with a reverse handstand got on her feet. From the ice slide she made she took out two new tonfa's and got into her stance.
"You're here for Cacturne and I understand. Don't kill here or me and my friends will come find you and make you pay."
May telling him he should think carefully about his next move. Roserade retracted his green sword back into his left hand.
"A warning for you in return. I've given you two chances thus far to clean up your act. I won't do a third. Farewell."
A storm of petals came around him as it covered him up fully. May throwing her ice weapons to it the flowers blew apart and left the spot with nothing standing there.
"Look around! It can be a sneak attack." Glaceon warned her to search the entire roof. May doing a thorough search and not hearing an alarm go off had to conclude one thing.
"He's gone."
"For now."
Now back alone again she looked over to the spike that was still stuck in the roof. Moving to it she tried to grab it by making a hilt of ice on the top to avoid direct contact. Lifting it up it was pretty light. A little bit of sword training she did a few motions with the saber.
"I'll stick to my tonfa's thank you." It just being her style May broke off the hilt and the spike fell down to the ground.
May went back to her place again. Sitting around waiting for something to happen again she heard a thud behind her. This time the green character was a friendlier face.
"Leafeon."
"Just checking in. Everything fine?" May got up on her feet to talk directly to Zoey.
"Ran into Roserade. He's every bit as charming as you said." Dripping with sarcasm Zoey nodded.
"I don't get it either. I always think he didn't had anyone to train him in using his powers. At least with Lucario and Greninja I am confident they won't go around killing people for the heck of it."
"He sounded like he was trying to get me to his side."
"You thinking about it?" Zoey asked as May shook her head wildly.
"Not a chance. My dad would disown me if I did."
"Your dad would be the least of your problems." Glaceon warning her about their partnership if May got any idea's. This made the two girls laugh a little.
"Want to switch places or are you fine?" Zoey thinking May would've gotten bored by now. Perhaps stretching her legs out would do her some good.
"I'm fine. You just go blend in with your trees."
Zoey left May as the rest of the night was uneventful. Riley and the two girls stuck around till Ash and Dawn would get out of bed so they can resume the guard together while the three night workers would go to sleep. May and Zoey had been called in sick by their parents so they can rest during the school day as they understood this took priority.
Ash was waiting patiently outside Dawn's…no…his girlfriends house. Still not believing what happened yesterday in them both admitting they wanted to try a relationship together he had a terrific sleep. Feeling refreshed he was ready to resume his duty as guardian of the city and to keep Scrafty safe until he can testify where he got the drugs from.
Ash had his phone in his hand circling through the news. None of the events May and the others texted him about were reported on the web. Glaceon fighting Roserade she managed to scare him away. Still counting on one of Cacturne's men to try to kill the punk leader Ash had to be ready. Dressed in a track suit that covered up most of his Greninja outfit he only needed to put on his mask and gloves and he was combat ready.
"Good morning!" Hearing something come from the house he saw Dawn and cheery jumping off her porch and moved in a brisk pace to him. She came out dressed in a simple bright pink skirt with black stockings. Hiding her own outfit under it Dawn came up to him as Ash greeted her morning as well while smiling. Dawn leaned forward into him.
"So…you ready?"
"To do what I always do with you? You bet."
The two moved away from the house as they waited at a bus stop to get to the hospital. They could just ran together there much quicker but they had to get in and out of their clothes and with it being broad daylight with more people on the streets there were few spots to get changed and be unnoticed.
Sitting in the back of the bus they whispered softly so nobody can hear them.
"So…you think we should tell the others about…us?"
"I don't want them to think we're getting distracted." Dawn had been pondering the same thing. Her nerves would die down by a lot if she knew what kind of danger Ash was in.
"What about your aunt? The one you got your earring from? What does she think about it?" Ash twisting the truth so others in the bus didn't found out, Dawn's aunt gave them both advice.
"As long as you two don't go smooching during your duties I'll allow it. One slip up or lack of concentration that endangers others and I'll tell the team if you haven't done it by then yet."
Umbreon giving her consent the two were relieved. The spirit while always present will not interfere in their bonding.
"I have experience being the third wheel anyway. I can be queit to the others about it."
Umbreon herself had seen it all when it came to relationships of her former hosts. From childhood friends to arranged marriages from eternal love to divorces that ended ugly for everyone and caused more harm then good. Ash glad there was a slight problem outside of their guardian duty.
"I'm happy we're together now but how are you going to tell Kenny?" The auburn haired boy can be quite jealous as they learned. If it was known they were an item things can only escalate further. Ash looked out the window trying to come up with a good lie and how to maintain it to satisfy his and Dawn's urges to be close.
"We can't tell him cause if I do and then May and Zoey will catch on at school." The moment normal life resumed Kenny would probably do something stupid and spoil their secrets in front of everyone. The two fellow heroines would then tell Riley who would have questions for Ash too and were then going to reorganize teams to keep them apart.
Dawn softly squeezed Ash's hand.
"No need to worry. You just give me a bit of time alone with him and I'll handle it. You can focus on your 'job' before I join you."
"Sounds fair."
Ash taking up the Greninja role a bit sooner while Dawn was going to clean up the mess she thought she made. Arriving at the hospital bus stop they got off ready to visit their friends and to keep Scrafty safe.
At least I got a buffer with this one. And i know where I want to go so it helps.
