Chapter 49: Gender Reveal
It's the third week of July, meaning that May is 18 weeks pregnant.
May and Drew had told their family and the gang that May is pregnant and they were all thrilled about that. However...Drew got a firm talking to from Norman…
"If you hurt my daughter or her baby, then you'll be in big trouble. Understand?" Norman told Drew.
"Dad…" May complained.
"Don't worry about that." Drew said. "I'll take good care of them. You know that I always protect May."
Norman gave Drew a smile. "Indeed you do. Congratulations you two."
Drew was able to keep his cool while talking to Norman which never happened before. He and May are just so excited, yet also nervous about becoming parents.
May and Drew are sitting on their bed right now, talking. "So, Drew...I think it's time we told everyone about a future Prince or Princess." May said.
"Sure." Drew agreed. "Sounds good. How should we do that though? You want everyone in Hoenn to know, right?"
May nodded. "Everyone has to hear about this."
"Okay then. How about we put it on the news?"
"Sounds great! We should go to the news station to give the news to everyone ourselves."
"Alright then. But first...didn't you tell me yesterday that you have a doctor appointment to go to?"
"Yeah. I should probably go now." May got off of the bed.
"Wait. Can I come with you?"
May looked at Drew. "Do you want to?"
Drew nodded. "I didn't go to any of the others since you just told me that you're pregnant 2 weeks ago. So can I? I think it's crucial that the father attends all of the mother's appointments until the birth." He said, standing up.
May blushed. "Mother...I have to get used to that."
Drew chuckled. "Me too. And no way I'm missing any more appointments." He took her hand. "Ruling can wait. This is more important."
May smiled. "Let's go."
Drew opened the carriage door, walking down the stairs. He held out his hand to May, who took it and walked down the stairs. Drew closed the door.
"Okay. Let's go inside." Drew said, walking hand-in-hand with May.
As soon as May and Drew entered through the automatic doors, they saw everyone in the waiting area turn their heads to stare at them. They just walked to the left to the front desk.
"Hi. I have an appointment." May said to the person at the front desk.
Drew heard whispering from the waiting area and he turned his head. He saw some people wave at him, and he happily waved back.
"Name?" The front desk person asked, looking up from her computer. "Oh! Your Majesty. I didn't know it was you." She looked back down to look up May's appointment on the computer.
"It's fine." May said.
Drew looked at May. "Everyone is questioning why we're here."
May looked at the waiting area. "Really? How can you tell? They're just staring at us."
"I just know."
May laughed and looked at Drew. "So, is it a problem?"
"Oh. No. I'm just saying."
May smiled. "They'll find out really soon."
"Yeah." Drew agreed.
"Okay, Your Majesties." The front desk person said. "Your doctor is currently with another patient. I don't want to tell you to wait, so…"
"No, it's okay. We'll wait." May said.
"But, Queen May…"
"Everything's good. Plus, we'll get a chance to talk to some of our loyal subjects."
"Are you sure you wouldn't want to go in right away?"
Drew placed his hand on the desk. "Are you arguing with the Queen?"
"W-what? No, no. I was just asking. But please. We'll call you two in a few minutes, Your Majesty."
"Thank you." May said. She took Drew's hand and pulled him away from the desk. They walked to the waiting area, sitting down on two seats. They still see everyone's eyes on them.
May just smiled. "Hi, everyone."
Several people started talking at once.
"Good morning, Your Majesties."
"It's so nice to be talking to you!"
"What brings you to a hospital?"
"Whoa...slow down, everyone." May said. "You'll all find out later why we're here. It'll be on the news."
"Really? Some big announcement?" A lady asked.
"Really big." Drew said.
"Ooh...we can't wait."
"So, is there anything that you'd want to tell us?" May asked. "I love listening to all of our subjects."
"Oh! I have an idea." A different lady said. "I've heard from many people that you two know how to sing, so how about singing a song for us now?"
"Yeah." Someone else agreed.
May and Drew looked at each other. They smiled. "That can be arranged." Drew said.
(This song is "Always Been You" by Shawn Mendes.)
Drew took May's hand and placed a kiss on it before singing. "It's a fairytale I can't explain. Full of words I don't know how to say. And without a little twist of fate. I know I'd still be searching baby. I swear that you've been sent to save me."
Everyone in the waiting area smiled at the two lovebirds. Drew continued. "You're the only one that my heart keeps coming back to. It's always been you, it's always been you. It's always been you, it's always been you." He stood up and pulled May up to her feet. "It's always been you."
"And you've seen all my darkest fears." Drew continued. "Like you've known me for a thousand years. The boy who's really underneath. All the scars and insecurities baby. I swear that you've been sent to save me."
"You're the only one that my heart keeps coming back to." Drew sang. "It's always been you, it's always been you. It's always been you, it's always been you." Drew twirled May. "It's always been you, yeah."
"You're the only one that my heart keeps coming back to." He repeated. He ran his hand through May's hair. "It's always been you, yeah. It's always been you."
He slowly started lowering his hand from her hair while singing, "You're the only one that my heart keeps coming back to." He finished, taking both of her hands.
After a moment of silence, their small audience started applauding. May gave Drew a peck on his lips.
"Queen May and King Drew." Someone called from the door next to the front desk.
May smiled and pulled Drew by his hand. "Let's go. Bye, everyone!"
May and Drew walked to the doctor and followed him to a room. "Someone will be right with you." The doctor said.
"Thanks." May said. The doctor closed the door.
May climbed onto the hospital bed and Drew sat on a chair. They see a monitor on the wall that must be where they could see the baby. And there's another one on the computer next to the hospital bed.
"So, Drew, you actually came with me on the perfect day." May said.
"Really? Why is that?" Drew asked.
May smiled. "...Because today is when we find out what gender the baby is."
Drew gasped. "Really?" May nodded. Drew smiled. "I can't wait."
May laid back on the bent hospital bed that's currently like a chair. "Do you want a boy or a girl?"
"Whatever will be great." Drew said. "I only want to raise a child with you. There'll be no complaints about the gender from me."
The door opened and a female doctor entered. "Queen May, so good to see you again."
"You too." May said.
The doctor noticed Drew. "I see that you've told King Drew finally." She walked to her computer.
May laughed nervously. "Yeah...it took awhile, but I finally did it. And he's really happy for us."
"That's good. So, are you ready?"
"Yeah."
Drew watched as the doctor lowered the back of the hospital chair, so that May is almost laying down completely. May pulled up her shirt to show her full stomach, and the doctor spread some sort of gel on her belly.
The doctor then rubbed a transducer over May's belly. They could all see a gray and white image on the wall monitor.
"There your baby is." The doctor said.
May and Drew see the baby that's curled up almost into a ball. They both smiled at the monitor.
"So, you'll be able to tell us the gender, right?" May asked.
"Right." The doctor said. She moved the transducer all over May's body to scan the baby some more.
After a few minutes, the doctor spoke again. "Congratulations, Your Majesties...Your baby is a girl!"
May gasped. "I wanted a girl!"
Drew chuckled. May looked at Drew.
"This is so exciting! Don't you agree?"
"Sure do." Drew said. "She'll be beautiful just like her mom."
May blushed.
May and Drew are riding in a carriage to the news station. The doctor had finished checking the baby's heartbeat and movements before printing out pictures for May. They left on a happy note, knowing that their baby is a girl.
May smiled down at the images from the monitor in her hands. She looked next to her at Drew. "You'll really come with me for every appointment?"
Drew looked at May. "Of course. Unless you don't want me to…"
May smiled and leaned her head down on Drew's shoulder. "I want you there with me."
Drew wrapped an arm around May, holding her close. "Then I'll go with you to every appointment. Like I said earlier, ruling can wait. I made a promise to your Dad that I'd keep you and our baby safe, so therefore I need to make sure that nothing goes wrong at the hospital."
May pulled away from Drew, looking at him. "You're the best."
"I know." He said cockily.
Instead of getting mad at Drew for his cocky attitude, May just giggled.
Drew chuckled a bit before saying, "You're the best too."
The carriage had stopped at the news station, where May and Drew were welcomed inside. They were led to the room where Hoenn News is filmed. And they were allowed to give their own announcement for all of Hoenn.
"Hello, everyone." May said on the news. "King Drew and I have some very exciting news to share with you."
"In December…" Drew started. "You can be expecting a Hoenn Princess to join our kingdom…"
