Crosshairs had to make Drift go to bed; not even knowing Bumblebee is watching Jayce helped. Crosshairs didn't want to let Drift stay with Jayce, worried he wouldn't sleep for days. He moved the two beds together, hoping to keep Drift from waking up, but Crosshairs knows it's wishful thinking.
Three in the morning, Crosshairs hears Drift get out of bed and leave the room. He rushed after him, stopping Drift before he goes into Jayce's room. It's clear Drift has been up, crying.
Scrap, do much for helping him with the nightmares. How did I not know?
"Leave her alone," Crosshairs insists, hoping not to have to tell Drift he had Bee inject sleep aid once Jayce was asleep. He did the same with J.R., except J.R. had difficulty falling asleep.
"No, you don't know how bad of a nightmare she had earlier," Drift replies while trying to get Crosshairs to let go of his wrist.
Damn it, now what? Crosshairs wondered, not wanting to expose what he did, but he doesn't want Drift barging into the room.
"She's fine, Drift, you know I'll text you if I need help," Bumblebee says from the floor that's open enough to show himself.
Realizing he will not be able to get into the room, Drift gives up. Crosshairs releases his arm, and Drift goes back to the room.
"He's going to find out eventually," Bee comments.
"I know," Crosshairs sighs, "and we don't need him being pissed at us, but he can't avoid sleep for days."
"What about letting him... never mind."
"Yeah, I would have him sleep in the room with Jayce if he didn't have nightmares himself."
"You're both quiet; take him to see Jamie," Bumblebee suggests before closing the door.
Crosshairs finds Drift laying in bed, tears rolling down his face. He decided not to take Drift to see Jamie. Instead, he wants Drift to go back to sleep. Crosshairs lays in his bed, facing Drift.
"They're ok," he says before going to sleep.
Drift closes his eyes and tries to go back to sleep.
Crosshairs is up at eight in the morning. Jayce and J.R. are awake, and like every morning, are in a depressed mood. It's a struggle to get them to go watch T.V. or drink a nutrition drink. The three of them sit on Jayce's bed. Both girls leaning on Crosshairs as he has an arm around them.
I hate how depressed they are. How long before J.R. tries to end her life again or Jayce tries? They need something to give them hope.
Crosshairs is worried Drift isn't up by ten. He hates how Drift is depressed and doesn't want to get out of bed.
Scrap, I was afraid he'd get to this point. It's amazing he didn't get like this sooner.
"Come on, let's go see Jamie."
"No," Drift replies in a sad tone, which really concerns Crosshairs.
We saw her yesterday, what happened? He worries, aware it's simply because Jamie has been fighting for her life for fifty-one days now. Crosshairs leaves the room to call Bulms, but instead of a simple update, Bulma tells Crosshairs she'll be right there, which concerns Crosshairs. He edits by the girls' room.
The two girls are playing on tablets when Bulma checks on them.
"Well, it's better than doing nothing the past month," she sighs, "it's a good thing they don't, but I wonder why they don't say they want to go home to their dimensions?"
"I think Drift and I comfort them enough not to want to go home, except for you know."
Everyone still can't believe what J.R. tried to do.
Bulma hates seeing Drift depressed in bed.
She moves the chair that's in the room by the bed and takes his hand.
"You saw Jamie yesterday; she's getting better," she explains, "I'm slowly working on getting her to where I can remove the tube. You understand I need to work slowly."
She looks as Crosshairs, uncertain if he wants to have Drift see Jamie.
"Come on, I think seeing her will be good for you," Crosshairs insists.
Bulma leaves the room, closing the door behind her, and waits in the hallway.
Crosshairs and Drift walk out of the room ten minutes later. Drift stops by the girls' room, happy the two girls are doing something but aware they might be sleeping by the time he and Crosshairs get back.
Cade continues to sit by Jamie most of the day, though she's doing better. It's not like there's anything else to do. He figured Bulma would be back with Crosshairs and Drift; he gets out of their way and sits with Bulma at the table.
"He's falling apart," Bulma sighs.
Cade knows she's talking about Drift, though Crosshairs follows Drift mentally a few days later, which isn't good if Drift is depressed.
"He wanted to stay in bed, but he can't say no to seeing Jamie. We're screwed if both of them get this depressed."
"Is it too soon to think this shit is almost over?" Cade asks.
"Maybe not; Jamie is doing well. I will slowly decrease how much oxygen she's getting every couple of hours once these two leave. They'd probably like to see the progress, but I don't think Drift can take seeing Jamie struggle if I lower how much oxygen she's getting too much too soon, even if it's for few seconds. I'm hoping that I can remove the tube and put her on a venturi mask within the next week. At that point, Drift can hold Jamie," Bulma explains, "I can't tell if she'll be dealing with short comas — I hope not — nor do I know how she'll be mentally. We have discovered she feels guilt for a few days, regardless of how minor the flare-up is. This time, we have the fact that Jadin attacked and causes the severe flare-up."
The two look at Jamie, hoping her mental state won't be a challenge like Jayce and J.R., but question if they should be prepared.
Crosshairs lets Drift stay with Jamie while he returns to the other two-three hours later.
"But Jayce is more of a challenge now-," Drift argues.
"Bee, Hound, and Vegeta are there; they can help me."
With that, Crosshairs walks out of the building.
"Come on, Jamie, I can't take seeing you like this."
Forgetting Bulma and Cade are in the building, Drift lets himself cry. Cade gets Bulma to quietly leave the building with him.
He takes her to his trailer, where the two sit quietly, hating how much this is affecting Crosshairs, Drift, Jayce, and J.R., even though everyone is having a hard time mentally with this situation.
Crosshairs was not prepared for how difficult Jayce would be. He realized how much each of the girls depends on their comfort mech. As Vegeta put it, like a child who has a comfort object and no other object will do. He knew J.R. needed him no matter how much she insisted he help Jayce.
J.R. walks out of the room, immediately hugging Bumblebee the second she sees he's standing by the door. Bumblebee picks her up and carries her to another room.
"Why did you tell Crosshairs to help Jayce?" He asks once he closes the door and sits on the bed.
"You didn't see how distraught she is?" J.R. sobs, "and Drift is having a hard day."
Damn, I hate how you know that without seeing him today, but I guess that's the clue that says he's having a hard day. Bee dreads.
"Why doesn't Bulma just let Jamie go? I know we'd lose you guys, but is the pain of knowing Jamie is barely alive worth holding on?"
This really hurts Bee, but he's still being told to not tell the girls how Jamie is doing. He hugs J.R. close as she cries.
Well, the girls will be napping like every afternoon.
Bumblebee didn't think Crosshairs would walk into the room so soon. He let Crosshairs take J.R. as she still cries. Crosshairs sits on the bed as Bee leaves the room. The fact Hound and Vegeta are by Jayce's room tells Bee he's not going to be told Jayce fell asleep quickly.
"He'll tell you," Hound tells him as Bee looks through the small window on the door. He sees Jayce asleep, and there's no medical equipment. It's easy to figure out what happened.
Bulma rushes down the hall even though Jayce is asleep. She looks over at Jayce, which worries Bee. The five-minute wait seems like five hours to Bee.
"Do I even ask?" He asks.
"She's so distraught that she triggered a seizure," Crosshairs tells him.
"So the pain medication was doing more than helping her pain," Vegeta points out.
"She was relaxed and slept most of the time," Bulma reminds him.
"Tell them!" Bee rages.
"I...," Bulma didn't know what to say.
"Drift and I take your advice on what to do to help Jayce and J.R., but I think it's time to tell them Jamie is getting better — that's it — and Drift would agree," Crosshairs tells her.
Bulma knows they'd consider every possible way the girls could react.
"What happened?" They hear Cade ask. They see Drift came with him.
The two are not happy about what they're being told, but this troubles Drift.
"I told you I should have come back with you!" He rages, frustrated as a tear escapes his eye. He isn't angry at Crosshairs, but at himself for not being here for Jayce when she really needed him.
Crosshairs puts his hands on Drift's shoulders, "you couldn't have prevented a seizure from happening; she's distraught over this situation."
"I watched Crosshairs try to get her to calm down; nothing that usually works was working," Hound explains.
"I think we were wrong this whole time; they didn't give up weeks ago, they just knew not to ask about Jamie, and now they're giving up," Bee guesses.
The others couldn't believe what he's suggesting. Cade insists Bulma tells the others what she told him. The others are happy with what they're hearing.
"... I just don't know if the girls will understand there's still a while to go. Really, I can't say this shit will be over in two weeks or a month. Jamie is strong enough not to have major setbacks, but..."
"We understand like I said; we should only tell the girls Jamie is getting better," Crosshairs reminds her.
"I don't know, Crosshairs," Drift sighs as he looks through the small window on the door.
Crosshairs drops the subject for now.
"Both of you can go back to Jamie," Hound suggests to Crosshairs and Drift, "Jayce will now be asleep for six hours," he argues to Drift.
"You two go," Crosshairs tells Bulma and Cade before taking Drift to the room they've been sleeping in.
Drift doesn't care that he's crying in front of Crosshairs as they sit on the bed. They've become each other's support along with being the girls' support.
"How long before Jayce tries to end her life?" Drift sobs, "or J.R. tries again?"
Crosshairs has been so worried about Drift that he didn't think about this. Now he realizes he should have been more concerned about this.
"I know, but Bumblebee and Hound watch them; I know you want to see Jamie."
"I can't take this anymore. I want our friends to be done with this scrap."
It hurt Crosshairs hearing Drift say this. He is uncertain if he should be worried Drift will hurt himself or not.
He's depressed, and not even the good news today made him happy.
